LFG
I've discussed this idea with Frug and he's cool with it so here's my idea on how to get more stories going and improve character interaction. We have a forum called Alternate Realities in which you can play with other writers in fashions and forms that are non-canon. How about writing some stories that are canon?
Flashbacks stories can be used to help develop your character, give you a chance to interact with writers you normally wouldn't, and offer more threads in which to write (for those of us who might have some extra time on our hands). They would work pretty much like the "present"-time stories, however there are some stipulations that should be adhered to in order to preserve the space-time-continuum.
1) You can play with anyone, provided it makes sense with the history of your character. I.e., a gnome born and raised in Marn may write with a scholarly goatish teacher who has spent quite a few years settled in the city, or a lone world travelling half-elf may encounter another traveller in some remote town.
2) Have adventures, discussions, fights, or whatever floats your boat, as long as the actions would not impact who/where your character is "now". I.e. You can't go on some adventure with somebody and find some super powerful weapon that your character doesn't have (unless you also write in how he or she lost it prior to "now"). Your character shouldn't develop some new ability unless its been cleared by the staff and can somehow be written into the "now". This doesn't preclude you from referring to some future development if you like foreshadowing.
3) The outcome of the story should be somewhat predetermined. These flashbacks are supposed to help you develop your character's personality and past, not their fate and they are not to be used like the open-ended canon stories you currently have.
4) The staff may restrict the number of flashback threads you can be involved in if this idea takes off. However, right now, consider ourselves on the big boy (or big girl) program. Police yourselves- just like the AR threads, your flashback threads shouldn't take precedence over your "now" threads. Don't over extend yourself by opening too many stories at the same time because it's not fair to the others you write with.
I am definitely interested in opening one or two more flashback threads because I think it would be cool to write with some different people. Also, if our characters were ever to meet again in the "now" they would have some history and background; whether it be good, bad, or indifferent, they wouldn't have to start from square one when they meet up.

No takers? I guess I'll have to suffice with my paltry three threads.

Re: LFG
I'd love to do a flashback with Gizmo. Either just after the Pockberts realize they're stuck within Gizmo, and they're bumbling around Shim trying to get the hang of it all, or maybe before Gizmo was even built.

I would enjoy doing one now that I'm on winter break, too. Complete freedom until January 20th or so! Yay!

Re: LFG
I'd kind of like to, but I think it would be difficult with Dianelopa because she is pretty naive and a flashback would make her even younger and less experienced. But maybe something would work if it isn't something that would make her more knowledgable than she appears later.
Re: LFG
Many players have RPed child characters, it can work really well. It adds an uncommon colour to a lot of stories. I think a younger Lopa could work well with the Pockberts.
You just got blue-balled
Re: LFG
I don't think I've ever seen a child character RPed here.
I fully endorse this product and/or service. It could be cool.
You don't need any special permission from me or a mod to go ahead and start writing stuff like this. Especially if you've been writing here for a few months now. Go nuts. If you're unsure, you can always put it in alternate realities and move it if it concludes the way you planned, though you don't have to.

The world is an arena, not a stage. RP is a stage, not an arena.

Re: LFG
Jasp, did you still want to do a flashback with Myllis? I can go ahead and get it started, or you can do so, if you had something specific in mind.

Awesome... Lopa, Gizmo have at it... Myllis, I'm totally up, go ahead and post if you'd like or if you're uncertain, just give me a PM... Phil might not be able to join as Justin but i can either NPC him or leave him out entirely.
