Naris and Koloque [NPC]

Post by Jaspenellar » Sun Nov 30, 2008 11:52 pm

(I'm writing these together, since, thus far, they haven't been seperated in their travels.)

Name: Naris Jaspenellar
Race: Gnome
Age: 29
Height: 4' even
Weight: 95 lbs

Physical Description: Naris is every bit your average looking gnome. Her large brown eyes and easy smile give her a permanently youthful appearance, while her nut-brown skin remains smooth and unlined. She keeps her thick, black curly hair trimmed fairly short, always giving her a tousled look. She typically wears simple clothing, wide legged pants with a fitting tunic. Over these, Naris wears a red robe- though by looking at it, one would be hard pressed to call it red. At one time, it was a deep shade of mahogany, but over the years of travelling, she's patched it so many times with scrap cloth, the robe is now a myriad of shades. She also wears a very large backpack, the size of her entire torso. Her build is slender and wiry, kept strong by years on the road, travelling alongside her brother.

Possessions: The only possession of note are two very large books which take up her entire backpack. Large by human standards, these books are two in a series, written in the same scribbling, illegible script. The thicker volume, roughly 300 pages, has a curious emblem on the faded red weather-worn cover. The other is unadorned, and in marginally better shape the the other.

Strengths:
Personality: Naris is the strongest willed of the Jaspenellar siblings. Being the oldest, she is typically the source of any ideas, plans, and drive for their adventures. She is outwardly confident without being cocky and very friendly and likeable.

Intelligence: The gnome sister is very intelligent and has an analytical mind with a knack for picking up languages and mathmatical equations.

Magic: With her large brain comes the ability to translate the books she has found. They are a form of archaic magic, in which the user utilizes spoken word to cast spells. She has been working through the first volume which has so far provided her with spells to physically affect objects.

Weaknesses and Faults:
Speech: Whether its inherent in her gnomish nature, or just her mind working too fast, Naris has a tendency to speak very quickly, often running her words and syllables together. In a normal setting, she's learned to slow her speech down, but if she's excited or scared, it can be very hard to understand what she is trying to get across.

Magic: While Naris has an affinity for her books and languages, she has no inborn natural spells. She can retain her book spells for a short period, but she continually has to re-read the scripts for her magic, and she must devote several hours of study every other day. Her capacity for memorization is directly proportional to the power of the spell- she can keep five short, relatively weak spells in her mind or one to two moderately powerful spells. With her current books, she has only been able to get through the first third of the thick volume, which has given her abilities to move, split, and combine inanimate objects.

Self-doubt: Naris hates to fail. Inwardly, she often doubts her ability to lead her siblings, and if her plans fall through, she takes the result personally, resulting in a short period of depression and lethargy.

Name: Koloque Jaspenellar
Race: Human
Age: 26
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 200 lbs

Physical Description: Brawny is a good place to start with Koloque's physique. He is barrel-chested, thick from his shoulders down through his torso. His biceps are nearly as thick as Naris's body. Kol's legs are relatively slimmer, though still thick, his muscles are less brawn and more lean, given his long days travelling on the road. His dirty blond hair is kept cropped short, thick enough to be spiky. With light blue eyes and a broad face, the Jaspenellar brother has been described ruggedly cute by fawning farm girls. Fortunately for Kol, the natural slow growth of facial hair prevents him from having to shave often. He typically travels in a sleeveless shirt tucked into pants which are then tucked into his sturdy work boots. On colder occasions, he dons a non-descript woolen jacket.

Possessions: Kol is the workhorse of the pair, carrying a very large pack that contains their travelling wares- a pot or pan or two, spare clothing, fire-starting equipment, various other sundry items. The pack is as large as Naris, nearly as heavy, but the large man carries it with ease. Along their travels, he has picked up a large broadsword, which he carries in a poor fitting sheath attached to his belt. The weapon is old, rusty, and he doesn't know the finer points of swordmanship, but his size and its presence ward away the casual thief.

Strengths:
Brute strength: The human Jaspenellar brother is physically strong. He enjoys testing his strength on things like uprooting dead tree stumps and carrying full barrels of ale for the local bartender.

Keen: Koloque has an almost impeccable sense of judgment when it comes to other's personalities. While Naris is often too eager to be friends with strangers, he will sit back and observe and after only a few moments will know if they can be trusted or not.

Weaknesses:
Unwavering Loyalty: Koloque has lived his life in his sister's shadow. He would follow Naris to the end of the world, and commit terrible crimes if she ever bade him to do so. He feels the same toward their youngest sister Lo'en, however having not seen her for the past four years, he would be more inclined to obey Naris over Lo'en.

Lost: The middle child has no drive of his own. If Naris were to die, Kol wouldn't quite know what to do with himself, and could very well end his days sitting in the spot she had last occupied. As such, he appears somewhat slow or dim-witted to outsiders.
"She who can laugh at herself will never cease to be amused."
