The Home of Zou, Mentor and Musician
Availability: Open
Posting Speed: Slow, usually on weekends only.
Characters Involved: Zou, Jaspenellar (controlling NPCs Naris and Koloque), Aura Thesin, Ra'Nali*, Caiomhe*
* no longer active
Location:
Zou picks up Aura and Jaspenellar in the Drunken Rat - http://www.tharshaddin.com/rp/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1707
They move to the residential district - http://www.tharshaddin.com/rp/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1704
Summary: Lo'en (Jaspenellar) notices a man with a disfigured face (Zou has no nose, and horns) at the Drunken Rat tavern. This also draws the attention of Aura, Ra'Nali and Caiomhe and the group sit together to find the strange looking Zou to be soft spoken and mild mannered, despite his grotesque appearance.
When a rowdy patron attempts to accost the attractive and vulnerable looking Aura, Zou intervenes and the two of them dispatch with the patron swiftly, first smashing a bottle on his head and then finishing him off before Lo'en can help.
After some chatting, Zou suddenly burst out of the tavern, ill as a result of Aura's innate anti-magic aura, and both Lo'en and Aura (unaware of the cause of his illness) leave Ra'Nail and Caiomhe behind to their discussion to go help Zou.
The trio make their way to Zou's home in the residential district. Treated to a lovely late dinner, Lo'en bids the two adieu to avoid imposing on the gentlemanly creature after learning his secret and spends the night in the streets, where she learns something about herself. Morning brings new friends and new opportunities for Aura to learn about the new world she finds herself in.

Re: The Home of Zou, Mentor and Musician
Hey guys, sorry about how long that took. I had a bit of a busy week.
I assumed that Zou would have many books, being a mentor. I think of it as a bit of a private tutor or teacher, or at least someone who is very smart and well read.
Let me know if I need to change my post.

Re: The Home of Zou, Mentor and Musician
yeah, that post was no problem at all, Aura. If there's ever a concern about what's around, I covered most of it in the first post in this thread, before I hit the tavern.
Wisdom begins in wonder, whereas ignorance begins in a will to change things. Our will is a function regulated by reflection; hence it is dependent on the quality of that reflection. And mortal reflections will never match infinite wonder.
Re: The Home of Zou, Mentor and Musician
so sorry, Jasp, about hereto ignoring your powers. Aura, I trust you enough to auto your own powers over my rain in this little experiment, because my magic doesn't have any wards on it, any defensive mechanisms, and no particular resistance to weird shit. it would therefore be much better for you to auto Aura affecting my rain than me auto-ing Aura's abilities.
And if Lo'en wants to join in the experiment, that would be cool, but so far, Zou doesn't know anything about her powers, he's only noticed Aura's. Blame it on the booze maybe, I dunno. Sorry again!

Re: The Home of Zou, Mentor and Musician
Oh Joe, its not a big deal... I meant to post here or PM the both of you because I had an idea- we could distinguish between the two as Lo'en's dampening works on somebody actively using their powers, but Aura's could be a more passive type thing- so something or somebody inherently magical would immediately sense her null, as opposed to Lo'en's only being sensed if they were using their power. I think something along these lines would be keeping in spirit of both of the character profiles. If its not, i'm open to ideas. Anyway, I cannot quite divulge why Lo'en works this way, but there actually is a work around hers. Not sure the depth to which Aura's goes though.

Re: The Home of Zou, Mentor and Musician
Hey guys! Sorry about the length of time it took to post. School, then was away this weekend visiting relatives. Yay midterms!
Anyways, Aura's dampening effect on Zou's magic would only work if she were touching him. His reaction of feeling sick and not in touch with himself could have come from Lo'en's area effect, while he decided it was Aura because of the way he felt when she touched him. Since he's a magical creature (shifter, right?), it might affect him more strongly if she were to touch him.
What I see from this experiment is that they will come up with a bunch of falsehoods about Aura's immunity to magic. Lo'en's magical dampening will prevent Zou from working his magic (I presume), while Aura stands idly by in the kitchen or wherever Zou gets her to go. Up until she places a hand on him, in which case he may react the same way he did when she touched him earlier.
What do you two think of that?

Re: The Home of Zou, Mentor and Musician
ummm, hold on here. if Lo'en is aware of her ability, I doubt it would be in character for her to knowingly screw up the testing. But if you say yours is by touch only, then it's good that I know that, anyway. Is there a particular reason you don't want Aura to figure out the details of her abilities this early in the game? If that's the case, then I'm sure we can figure out a way to screw this up

Re: The Home of Zou, Mentor and Musician
Well, it'd be nice to have her not quite know what her powers or absence of powers can do quite yet. I guess, according to how magic works on Pal Tahrenor, she would have something missing that allows other people to interact with the Astral Plane. I'm not sure how that would play out, and I think I'd actually need to talk to Frug about it before I started putting that into the storyline.
But I think the question would be how strongly Lo'en's area of effect is, and how far she would need to be away from Zou before his abilities would function normally.
Also remember, spells cast directly at Aura will not affect her, but spells cast near her, except illusions, will still affect her if she is in their area of effect.

Re: The Home of Zou, Mentor and Musician
After much contemplation, I think the best description (for Lo'en anyway, that's all i can speak for) is that she nulls or weakens magic when it actively is being used and has effects on users in her immediate presence (like in my story with her sister Naris)- meaning she needn't be touching them but just standing nearby. Its not something she can control, but its not something she would advertise either. She might not sabatoge Zou's experiment, but I don't see her openly advertising what she can do because a) she's not sure what it is or why and she's not entirely comfortable talking about it and b) she can't control it and c) she's not sure if it's to her advantage or disadvantage yet.
Now you are talking about rain, zou, but if his shifting is more genetic aligned instead of magical, then I don't see Lo'en interfering with that aspect of him.

Re: The Home of Zou, Mentor and Musician
yeah, I didn't think the shifting would be affected by the dampers, but the rain, definitely. okey dokey, we'll just jump in and see what happens.
