Gelden actually let go of Illilli's tail and fell right flat smack on her bottom in the middle of the floor when Camulous's gun went off. She stared open-mouthed and wide-eyed at the guard, having never heard nor seen such a loud contraption. But then the man started snivelling, and Gelden realized that the guard had actually just hurt someone. Her eyes widened even more as she looked between the man and the guard, back and forth, again and again until she had to rub the back of her sore neck.

"You...what is that?!"

She pointed at the gun as she scooted away from the guard, but fear still nibbled angrily at her earlobes until she couldn't stand it anymore. She jumped up and ran to Illilli, watching the guard the whole time.

"Come away, come on, let's just go!"

She scrunched her nose at the dragon lady's drunken breath and snorted.

"Can you even walk?!"

While she left the lady to her thoughts on the matter, the tiny fae stepped in front of her, blocking about 7/9 of the woman's upper torso. It was a laughable attempt to hide the woman from what was clearly a threat of some sort, but Gelden didn't really understand irony. Or even know the word.

"We'll just go, when she can get up. I..."

She looked around the now-tense but calm room, at the man with a hole in his leg which didn't seem to want to stop bleeding. She ached to think that her new winged friend could have a new hole, too, but she wasn't good at talking down crazy people. And clearly anyone who was willing to make holes in people was crazy.

"We'll...we'll go."

She looked up at the guard and produced a crooked smile which of course looked like nothing but mischief and lies. She was terrible at sincerity, even when she really meant it.

Camulous narrowed his eyes at Kaven when the man did a total 180 and started making excuses for himself. He had started the threats unprovoked, after all. It was funny how people were suddenly apologetic when their lives were at stake. Although Camulous had no idea whether the gun in his hand would survive another shot, or whether it would explode and take his hand with it, he kept his finger on the trigger with the weapon pointed at Kaven.

The man with the wounded leg kept his moaning to a minimum, sensing that Camulous was not in a good mood and knowing what could happen if he was sent to jail. Indeed, the captain was well known for "making examples" of people who didn't respect his authority.

"You...what is that?!" Asked the faerie.

Camulous shook his head. Only a stupid faerie would be so amazed at what technology could do. She would probably shit herself if she saw the artillery piece they had back at the HQ. If Camulous had his way, the whole guard would be outfitted with human made pistols rather than a few gnomish contraptions.

"Consider it a metal ball thrower. My own way of dealing with magic."

The faerie started to talk about dispersing, and Camulous, not currently on duty, was all for the idea. He looked around at the occupants of the tavern.

"Go back to your business." He ordered them, and then looked at the bleeding man, keeping the gun trained on Kaven the whole time. "And I suggest you see a healer before I put more holes in you."

The man didn't have the nerve or the stupidity to talk back to the captain. He just nodded and tried to stand up. The hole in his leg was at least an inch wide where the pellet had entered, but it wasn't deep enough to have hit an artery. He shuffled backward, gripping the wound, and tried to find a buddy to help him get out of there.

Kaven stared in wonder, it seemed like they actually were going to leave him alone! He looked around; the guard even said so. Kaven walked, or rather staggered over to where his cloak was and draped it over himself. His wound from the Nymph was looking horrible, and Kaven had lost way to much blood. Whereas before his cloak had hidden his wound, now there was a large red coloured stain covering his entire left arm.

Kaven's breathing began to get heavier and he started feeling faint. He didn't even make it past where the guard was when he fell to his knees, his vision started going dark, the blood dripping out of his sleeve to form a puddle of dark red liquid that was slowly circling his body. ‘No…must, get…awa…’ it finally got too much for Kaven and he collapsed, unconscious, with his head in a pool of his own blood.

Illilli sniffed at the man who had just previously attacked them. He could just deal on his own. Normally, her instinct was to help people, however even she wouldn't easily help someone who had just tried to attack with nothing being done to provoke such an attack.

"I think I can walk. I wonder what was in that alcohol. I only had the one mug..." She paused to look up at Camulus and reguarded his weapon.

"Scary but very effective." She shuddered to think it could have been her hide that could have been pierced.

Illilli carefully got to her feet and gathered her things. Luckily, nothing had been damaged in the minor ruckus. She daintly stepped over Kaven's body as she prepared to leave the Inn.

"Well Geldenwing, you said you knew someplace we could go 'till I sort THIS," here she gestered with a long nailed hand along her body, " out. I really don't want to get in trouble here. I think I can fly if we don't go too fast and we stick to a nice large landing spot. Atleast that isn't magical, its just these wierd body changes." She sighed wearily.

Gelden nodded and grabbed Illilli's hand to drag the woman out of the tavern. She wanted to get away from the guard and his stupid rules as soon as possible, and sticking around only seemed to make people want to fight and bleed.

"I know of a couple of places in the woods. I don't got nothin' to get, so let's go."

She ducked by Camulous, ignoring her impulse to step on his toes as she passed, and hopped over the prone drow. She hoped he wasn't hurt, too, and she ached to help the man with the new hole in his leg, but her survival instincts were telling her that her method of help would only make the guard even angrier.

She popped the door open and stepped into the freedom of the street, then looked back at Illilli.

"Is this enough space to take off from?"

Scary but effective indeed. Camulous actually smiled at Illilli when she complimented his toy, but only for a second before returning to his official demeanor of an unfriendly authority figure. Putting a hole in someone and getting the crowd to submit seemed to have cheered him up. It took his mind off the immediate problem of the fugitive he was hunting...

So he let the ladies go. His instincts told him they weren't the type of people he should be giving trouble. Despite all he knew about not trusting faeries, as long as she didn't use magic in his presence, he didn't care. He suspected - no - he knew that she would end up using some magic eventually. Probably as soon as she was out of sight. But then so did half the people in Marn. Secretly, in basements and in alleyways, people were using bits of magic all the time and there was no way to stop them all. He knew about the problem, and it often made him mad, but he felt better every time he made a dent. Sometimes that dent was more like a bullet in someones leg.

Besides, the faerie had a nice bum. A bit small, but so was she.

"Remember my warning. If I see magic, you'll be seeing my fist up close."

He looked down at the unconscious Laz and shook his head. He didn't really want to help the man, but it was part of his job. Off duty or not, he couldn't leave someone to bleed to death in the middle of the city. That sort of thing was only acceptable in the woods, as it were. The man with the bloody leg would be fine, but he wasn't sure about Laz.

He sighed heavily and pulled the man up by the front of his shirt. He examined the man's head while holding him at arm's length, but couldn't see the wound very clearly. There was a lot of blood and it didn't look too good.

Down the street an on-duty guardsman had heard the shot and come running.

"Just in time." Said Cam, unable to remember the man's name. "Help me get this guy to the temple. If he's gonna die, might as well be in the hands of a healer."

The soldier nodded and helped the captain carry Laz away from the tavern. Quietly, hesitantly, the man with the wounded leg went the same way, trying to stay out of sight.

(My characters name is Kaven :D )

Kavens limp body was tossed around like a rag doll on the guards shoulder. His wound was very deep and if he had any common sense he would have gone straight to a healer, instead of going to the tavern. Kavens life was slowly inching from his body. He could feel it, some small part of him that actually knew what was going on could feel it, starting from his toes and working it's way up, an icy cold feeling that slowly crept up, leaving nothing to be felt after. He struggled, tried to stop it but there was nothing he could do. It finally swept over his head and Kaven took one last breath, and then fell completly still, dead.

( wow sorry laz, I should have noticed that o.O My bad )

The man was getting heavy and Camulous eventually noticed something was wrong. Whether it was because the man was getting colder, because he wasn't waking up, or because he had stopped breathing, something told the captain that he should check to see if he was still alive. The temple was still a few blocks away and there was no reason to carry him all the way there for nothing.

The guardsman would have asked who the man was and what had happened, but he didn't care. Enough of his friends and enemies had died in front of him for the life of a stranger to mean nothing at all. Camulous was different. No matter how many deaths he saw, it always bothered him. Even if he didn't like the man.

"I don't think he's going to make it." He said to the other guardsman, who looked over at him.

They then both looked at Kaven's expressionless face and started to realize the truth of the statement. Carefully they set him down on the side of the road in a seated position, and Camulous put his ear up to the man's mouth.

The captain sighed, and gave the guard a look that explained everything. He wasn't breathing.

They remained there in silence for several minutes, the captain crouched next to the man's lifeless body, and the guardsman standing watch over them both. Eventually he stood up, straightened his tunic, and broke the silence.

"I'll go get the undertaker. I'm not carrying him any further."

The guard nodded and leaned against a nearby wall while his captained continued on alone.

"Is this enough space to take off from?"

Illilli nodded as she pulled the cloak from her back. Leaving the cloak on would foul her wings something awful as she struggled from the ground. Grasping her backpack, with the cloak bundled in the straps, she prepared.

A few cautious stretches showed the strong muscles that would lift her tired and still slightly drunk body from the earth. The road was plenty wide enough for her to stretch her wings, but ground takeoffs were really taxing. There was not even a breath of wind available to help.

She started jogging down the street and snapped her wings open. The stripes along her back and wings twinkled and she appeared to glow softly in the occasional lamplight as the light caught the tiny scales covering her skin.

Gasping for breath, she lumbered in to the air until she had enough height to begin gliding in a wide circle as she waited for Geldenwing's instruction.

Illilli was quite glad to have made it safely to the sky, and to finally have someone to help her understand her new changes.
