Ekire

Post by Ekire » Sun Aug 03, 2008 4:41 pm

Name:
Ekire

Age:

42

Race:
Troll

Height:
8"8

Weight:
350lbs

Physical Description:
A lumbering, green oaf, Ekire is the embodiment of trollish physique. Huge muscular arms, a nose that protudes quite sharply from his face and the 'rugged good looks' every troll mother looks for in her children, and which most other races claim is the very definition of revulsion.

Ekire's face is littered with scars, though retaining its pointed, thick shape. Ekire's ruffled scraps of dark green hair do little to cover the many bald patches, though of course, as a troll, this is of little concern to Ekire. Ekire has a huge forehead by human standards, and with clearly powerful jaw muscles the pointed array of teeth in his huge mouth are that much more dangerous, though Ekire has lost a number of teeth, in particular one of his fanglike canines. Ekire's eyes are small in comparison to the rest of his face, beaming with a form of childlike innocence.

Ekire typically wears scraps of cloth to cover his genetalia, though such meagre clothing has a habit of 'leaving' Ekire. Once again such matters are of little concern to Ekire who wears this baffling piece of fashion only because it's harder to avoid attention if he does not.

Possessions:
None.

Powers or Strengths:
Extreme, brutish strength. Troll inherent abilities (regeneration).

Weaknesses:
Fire, head injuries and cognitive challenges. Open to almost any manipulation whatsoever if it leads to a reward.

History:
Ekire was part of a barbaric tribe in the forests bordering Thar Shaddin. One of a 'family' of sixteen, Ekire's young life was spent learning how to survive, the tribe looked after its own and though they were few in number (in troll terms), Ekire was soon taught how to become a successful hunter and forager.

Ekire was about five yeard old when the tribal wars began within the forest. Other nomadic trolls had come, seeking to take parts of the forest from Ekire's tribe. Troll diplomacy, famed for its time saving elements, quickly became the exchanging of blows. There was a brutal conflict, the tribal leaders spared no effort in attempting to eradicate one another. In the heated climate the tribes began to turn on themselves, a lack of food due to the conflict and the sudden increase in population had driven some trolls to cannibalism. It wasn't long before the tribes resorted to fire.

The area of forest that Ekire's tribe had called home became a smoldering ruin of ash. Smoke filled the air and covered the smell of burnt carcasses. Ekire's tribe was routed, most of the tribe fleeing or dead. The enemy tribe had fallen to infighting, being forced to flee the ruins of the forest itself; the conflict had resolved nothing.

Ekire was too young at the time to partake in any of the fighting. Whilst Ekire's tribe battled for its survival, Ekire spent time scavenging for food in the bushes. The times of great hunger affected Ekire deeply, he feared starving above all other ends, and during that time he had known only hunger. By the end of the war Ekire's parents were dead, as were most of his siblings but to the young Ekire this meant very little. To Ekire once there were forests, now there was ash; that was the long and short of it. Ekire had been left by the remaining members of his tribe in the chaos of the escape. Ekire was alone in unfamiliar lands, hungry still.

It wasn't long before Ekire found civilisation. Ekire had seen humans and elves before, though he knew little of them. Sometimes they had caravans filled with food, and Ekire's tribe had considered these gifts. Ekire carried this same mentality when he arrived on the borders of Marn. Food was everywhere, and these weak, little creatures were all that stood in Ekire's way.

Ekire soon met the law, and, owing only to his regenerating strength, survived numerous encounters by running away. Ekire would often try to fight those who tried to stop him stealing, but Ekire soon realised that there were lots of those who would hurt him and that they could wield fire. Ekire knew what fire could do to him. Though little and weak, these creatures had weapons and were clever. Ekire had never seen such cunning.

After several years Ekire began to develop a meagre understanding of the city's values and culture in general. After several encounters with the guard, Ekire realised that the food he took was food that actually belonged to the humans, which is why they became angered when he ate it. Ekire developed an understanding of bartering as, in his terms, "Give punch give food."

Ekire soon found it more rewarding to peform tasks in exchange for food. Though he had only a basic grasp of language, Ekire would perform acts of strength, pointless in his eyes, and be rewarded with food. Sometimes Ekire would work with food itself but, on the understanding that he would be given better food if he did not eat it. The guard didn't chase him, and he was still taking the human's food. It made little sense but it worked, and as long as it worked Ekire was pleased.

It wasn't long before Ekire was drafted into crime. Not knowing the extent of what he did, Ekire was told to hurt certain people in exchange for food. Ekire did this gladly, feeling elevated somewhat for doing such 'important' work. Though Ekire found himself being chased by the guard, the reward was too great to pass up.

Ekire, being a troll in a predominantly human city, has seen his fair share of racist attacks. People rightly suspect of him mischief because of his brutish nature and, though Ekire doesn't really understand racism, he knows he is different and humans distrust him because of that difference. There are many occasions where Ekire has been asked to leave certain areas or had the guard called on him despite doing nothing 'wrong'.

Ekire is adept at knowing when to flee and when to fight, his time in the city has given him the insight as to his own limitations. If his boss told him to hurt a man who was too well protected, Ekire would wait until later and get him. If Ekire was told to steal, Ekire wouldn't simply burst through a door and take the item, he'd wait until it was quieter and then do what was asked of him. If caught by the guard Ekire has learnt to run if there are more than three, and to run immediately if there's any sign of fire.

Now Ekire continues life in the city. Going wherever hunger takes him and doing, literally, whatever it takes to eat.
"Banish all doubt; you will die this night."
