Melonious Braddin

Post by Melonious Braddin » Mon Jul 21, 2008 8:02 pm

Player Name: Roger Logan
Name: Melonious Braddin
Age: 22
Race: Half-human, Half-troll
Height: 7’3”
Weight: 213 lbs.

Physical Description: Melonious is large by human standards, standing 7’3”, with a body made for physical activities. He possesses a muscular build, with little fat as is normally found on Troll kin. His skin customarily takes on a brownish hue, but that is known to change depending on the current weather situations (he has a range from red on very hot days, green when it’s humid, and even becomes pale in the winter seasons). Though he isn’t attractive by any standards, his mother’s genes have lessened his fathers, and therefore is considered to have only slightly less than average looks compared to his some of his human counterparts. He wears his thick black hair in a ponytail that runs just between his shoulder blades, with yellow eyes that appear to glow in the right light, and a low brow that gives him a menacing look no matter how he feels at the time. His facial features are an odd mix of human and troll, with a larger nose as is known of his brethren, while his ears and mouth appear to be more human. The result is almost comical, if you take away the fact that the rest of him looks as though he could rip you limb from limb if given the opportunity. He wears meager clothing, only a pair of trousers and a light shirt for modesty purposes, preferring to wear as little as possible due to his feral nature. There is an earring made of the bone of his first kill in his left ear, artistically designed by an Elvin friend of his mothers’.

Possessions: Melonious owns a longbow, custom made by his father to fit his size perfectly, as well as an unusually large quiver of arrows, which are also custom, and slightly longer than those you would normally find. On his waist he carries a 3 balled Morning Star Flail with a spike at the bottom of the handle. He keeps a hunting knife tucked into his right boot, having lived off the land far too long to go without one. These items aside he carries only a purse for his bishani and a note from his mother.

Powers or Strengths: Melonious possesses the natural strength and healing abilities of his Troll brethren, as well as a higher intelligence due to his human mother. He is very adept at physical activities, most notably his archery skill (he’s been known to take down game from 150 yards away on a clear day). While his archery skill is of notable reputation among certain crowds, his physical strength makes him a vicious enemy with flail in hand. He is well practiced at both weapons, and has a mediocre knowledge of the martial arts, when it’s necessary to show off instead of bashing heads in. He is also a proficient tracker, and more than adept at living off the fruits of the land with only the bare necessities for survival. His bone structure is of greater caliber than other species, too, but compared to other Trolls are easier to break (though it does take an immense amount of strength to do so, still).

Weaknesses: Aside from fire, his healing abilities, while far above that of humans and other species, do take a little more time to take effect. Instead of deep wounds or removed limbs correcting themselves within several hours, it takes a day of rest to grow back. He is easily distracted, having trouble focusing on any one thing unless he is in the heat of battle, and dislikes large groups of people talking at once, finding it difficult to focus on the main points of conversation. He is also prone to anger, though due to his desire to please his mother is more likely to start yelling and throwing insults than he is to fly off the handle and start destroying things (though this still happens regularly, as well). Melonious does not possess any magical abilities, either, and in fact views such things as wicked due to his lack of understanding. This is not to say that he dislikes anyone who can use these abilities, but he does approach those who can with an amount of reserve.

History: Melonious’ parents met when his mother, Linda, had her caravan raided by a band of Trolls on her way to Marn. Something in his father caught, and instead of leaving her for dead as the band normally would, he bound her and took her as his “slave”. Wanting no harm to come to her, Jarrek left the troupe in the dark of night, and ensuring that none followed stole over the land to the outskirts of Shim. Frightened beyond belief, Linda made every attempt to escape, but was unable to accomplish any such task.

Through her fear of the situation she was able to register that, although brutish in his ways, Jarrek handled her with distinctive care, and looked upon her with something reminiscent of desire. Throughout the years she was adamant about the fact that he did not rape or torture her in any way, and in fact the only thing she never had a choice in was that journey to Shim. Once there he was quick to purchase an abode on the outskirts of the town, and spent the first few weeks placating the woman he had captured, and gathering the necessary items to live.

Once he was satisfied by the house, he allowed her to come and go as she pleased. It was to his greatest delight that she returned to him at dusk that day. Upon her return she spoke, strong but with care, explaining that she would stay with him, so long as he continued to treat her with such care as she had been. Their agreement made, they began their life together, getting married a year later.

It was at this point in time that Melonious was conceived. Though his parents held no ill will towards their situation, the other children in Shim refused to understand or accept, and therefore forced him to be an outcast, despite his desire for a different result. Instead he spent his time with his mother, learning to grow vegetables and plants with healing qualities, while his father taught him to live off the land itself, hunting, archery, and the beginnings of martial arts and the flail.

He became quite adept at these skills over the years, and at age 14 was entered into an annual archery contest where he won first prize; an acceptable sum of bishani. By this time he was often found out in the wilderness for days, hunting game and on occasion, when he was sure his mother wouldn’t find out, even battling some of the lesser creatures of the astral plane.

It was during one of these outings that Melonious had a significant accident. He was caught in a dragons nest, and only barely managed to get away, though he was left burned and nearly useless. He was found by a werewolf who, out of some kindness, took him to a safe place and allowed him the time necessary to heal. The next days and nights in the company of this wolf were hell, a series of nightmares in sleep and excruciating pain in the waking hours.

When he had finally healed, it was learned that the werewolf, Youlin, had been watching him for months, impressed with his sense of presence on the plains. It was at this time that Melonious gained his one, and as of yet only, true friend. There was a connection made, due to their common ground of being, “Half breeds”, and from that day on they began hunting together.

On several occasions their outings led them near vagabonds and groups traveling to and from Shim. Often they would make their presence known and make camp with these people for the evening, enjoying the different stories and events that their lives had to offer. Throughout these adventures they often heard tell of the mysteries of the astral plane, and over time it begot their curiosities.

It was several years later that his father was killed under the pretense of law. It was claimed that Jarrek had beaten several people to death, and then had tried to escape the guards. In truth he had successfully stopped one of the guards from taking advantage of a woman on her way home late one evening. Successfully stopped meant beating the guards head in until all that was left was unrecognizable mush.

Heartbroken, Linda lost her will to live, and for the next four years Melonious spent every waking moment he could (when he wasn’t hunting or tending to the house) next to her side. The day that she died she handed Melonious a note, something he keeps on his person at all times. In this note specified the reason for her original trip to Marn: Her daughter lived there with the adopted parents. At the time she had been unable to keep her child. It was several years later that she went with the caravan on its’ way to Marn, which led to her meeting Jarrek. She decided that she would try children again, and focused on Melonious instead of the child she had previously bore. Shocked by this, Melonious headed towards Marn, hoping to locate the only family he had left.

We're not talking about how long you'll live. We're talking about how slow you'll die.

Approved.

Just try not to play him like he's too smart, eh.
