Ohlea Duwen

Post by Ohlea » Tue Dec 25, 2007 2:09 am

Name: Ohlea Duwen
Age: 20yrs
Race: Elf
Height: 5.8
Physical Description:
Ohlea is plain yet attractive.
Her fiery red hair falls over her ghostly pale skin that is usually hidden by the black hood that covers her pointy ears around strangers. Her eyes are bright green and show Ohlea’s pain and suffering.
She wears white cotton shorts underneath a simple white cotton dress with black leather knee-high boots. Around her waist is a cord of rope where the dagger in its sheath is kept; all of which is hidden by the long black cloak she wears. She cares little about her appearance as she’s too preoccupied with surviving and avoiding the humans which she rarely sees because she spends her life in the shady and dark forest where little comes and goes.

Posessions:

Some of the travellers that pass her take pity on Ohlea and give her things such as her white cotton outfit and black leather boots. Ohlea normally wouldn't accept gifts from strangers but it was obvious she'd outgrown her ten-year-old clothes.

CLOAK
Ohlea was given a long black hooded cloak from her father when she was ten. It didn't fit her then but her father had left too soon for her to make any changes. She treasures the cloak; it comforts her and gives her a sense of protection as if her father was with her. She only ever takes the cloak off when she is bathing or wounded from an attack so as not to dirty it or ruin it in any way.

FLASK
She carries water wherever she goes. This is for two things: magic and drinking. Ohlea travels and sometimes doesn't see rivers, lakes or any source of water for days so she carries a small wooden flask in her cloak to keep her hydrated. She also has it incase water is required in any magic she executes.

POUCH
When her father left Ohlea, he gave her a pouch with nine bishan inside. In the ten years she lived without him, Ohlea used five of these bishan. Once when she fell ill and needed to see a doctor and another time where she almost fainted from hunger and was forced to venture into Marn to buy a loaf of bread. When in Marn she also bought a small dagger to defend herself with. She tries to keep the bishan for emergencies.

DAGGER
She bought a small dagger when she was twelve. This was after many of her near death experiences where she decided she'd need something sharp to hunt with and fend of unwanted visitors such as wild animals and unkind travellers. She keeps the dagger in a sheath underneath her cloak.

Powers or Strengths:

HEALING
She uses the plants and herbs mixed with water to concoct healing potions that heal small scars, cleanse the body and soul when feeling weak or ill and to stop the pain. Ohlea learnt these simple potions from her sixteen year old friend, Diahila, when she was ten. She only learnt the basics because when her father left she refused to learn anymore.

MARTIAL ARTS
Ohlea learnt basic self-defence from her father as she grew up. Everyday he’d practice with her and, until Ohlea was nine, he’d always win. Every time she mastered a new skill or move, he’d teach her another one. By the age of nine, Ohlea was able to fight her father until she was the last one standing. She even won against the healthy teenage boy elves in the village. This is her only form of self-defence which she practices every morning at dawn.

HUNTING
Since the age of ten she’s learnt to fend for herself. Catching and killing her own meals. Her hunting skills range from standing in a river and grasping for fish to sneaking about the forest searching for wild animals. On the days where the animals hide, maybe because of the weather, Ohlea searches for leaves and berries but these can only last her so long before she feels weak or sick and must beg for food or buy it.
Weaknesses:
Ohlea is easily angered and naive. She trusts anyone who seems kind enough to lend her a helping hand which has led her into many sticky situations. Her anger causes Ohlea to stay far from civilisation to prevent her from getting angry enough to attack somebody and get in trouble. If someone mentions her father negatively, it would only be seconds before she pummels them to the ground and beats them up. Basically, she struggles to control her emotions.

History:

Across a vast desert, through a callous forest, over a deep river and behind a magical gate was the small village of O’Sheath; miles away from Marn; along the Ofriyu Mar. Twenty years ago it consisted of a large wooden hut where thirty-three elves slept, an outdoor fireplace where they cooked and a small cotton rug where the sick would lay and pregnant pray.

It was twenty years ago in O’Sheath where Ohlea was born and where her mother, Ohlieana died, giving birth. Ohlea’s father, Drake, swept her into his arms and wept both with joy and sadness at his loss and his gain. Drake glanced down at the pale little elf with fiery red hair and instantly fell in love with her.

From that day on he brought Ohlea up with so much care and kindness as to substitute for the absence of her mother. However, Ohlieana’s absence did not mean there was no female influence in Ohlea’s life. The thirty-three elves in the village were all very close, they supported each other and took turns cooking and cleaning. The twenty children in the village would play and learn together. There were never any disputes among the village except when it came to discussing the neighbouring village of Karnian .

The Karnians were humans who were interested in knowing more about elves. They disrupted the O’Sheath’s daily routines to try and sneak a peak at their pointy ears or their poor living conditions. The O’Sheaths found these humans to be a threat for they did not know what they were capable of. The Karnians thought exactly the same.

When Ohlea turned five, the men of the village were forced to join a village army to train for the day when the Karnians might attack. Drake would learn martial arts at morning training, go hunting then come home to teach Ohlea what he’d learnt.

Ohlea and Drake kept nothing a secret between each other. If he’d learnt something, he’d show Ohlea and vice versa. Together they were a fountain of knowledge and skill and they loved the village as the village loved them. Everyone was friends with everyone. The younger children would swim in the river, climb trees and help clean after meals whilst the older female elves learnt how to make potions and the older male elves would learn how to fight.

By the time Willow was ten she had become best friends with an older elf, Diahila. Diahila was learning how to make healing potions and began to teach Ohlea. A week into her premature training, a female elf was attacked by two Karnians and taken to their village. They killed her and studied her. As soon as the O’Sheaths knew they declared war and Drake was sent away.

Before Drake left he gave Ohlea a black cloak, which he made himself, and nine bishan in a pouch. He knew he wouldn’t need the money and reluctantly left his beloved daughter with the six female adults and the young children.

Half of the adults soon died from heart ache and half the children were poisoned by the river they went swimming in. The Karnians had poisoned the river. After a while, those still in the village did not have the knowledge to draw the water from plants thus soon enough, the few villagers were forced to survive on a small bowl of water. The last elves left were an elderly elf of 300yrs, a mother elf who cared for the three five year olds and Ohlea. The elderly elf was the next to go when she went to confront the Karnians of this madness. Ohlea wanted to know whether Drake was still alive. She grabbed her cloak, a flask from a dead member of the village and her pouch. She filled the flask with half of the remaining safe water and quickly left under the cover of night so as not to alert the mother and her children.

Before she’d even arrived at the neighbouring village she could see that it was ablaze. She rushed to Karnian to hear the piercing screams of humans burning alive and sobs of the elves. Normally they were a kind race of people who did not like hurting anything and yet they were forced to kill a whole village to keep themselves safe.

Ohlea covered her red hair with her black cloak and ventured into the fire yelling for her father. She soon found him underneath a pillar.

“Papa, don’t leave me!” Ohlea screamed as she dashed to his side.
“Ohlea? What are…”
“Hush, save your strength.” Ohlea ordered as she grabbed the wooden flask from her pocket and gave some water to her father.
“My little angel, do me proud, don’t let these humans win.”
“You, you and me, we’ll fight them all and win. Papa, we’ll win and go on living like we did.”
“Not now Ohlea, I’m going to stay with mama for awhile.” Drake whispered as he became limp in Ohlea’s arms.

Ohlea left with no more than she came. Drake had gone and Ohlea was alone in the world. She needed clean water and these two villages were destroyed beyond repair. Ohlea ventured over the river and through the woods in search of a clean river and a new home.

She came to Marn where she didn’t dare enter the village. There were humans everywhere; Ohlea was terrified. She hid in the forest and practiced her self-defence just in case she ever came across a human.

Gradually, Ohlea grew cold and angry at the world. For two years she ate berries and leaves from the forest and occasionally stole meat from houses if she saw any. For two years she did not encounter any creatures besides the small animals that passed her. Ohlea became physically weak but her hatred, her negativity strengthened. She became so weak that she found it hard to walk but refused to give in until her father’s death was avenged.

She decided to venture into the town in search of a doctor. Ohlea hated to show her weakness and was scared of the humans so went to the markets and bought a dagger. She then found a doctor and was ready to attack her if the doctor tried to hurt Ohlea. Instead, the doctor showed Ohlea that humans could be kind by helping her regain her strength.

Ohlea went back into the forest confused about her views of the humans. She was now able to hunt for animals with the dagger and lived healthily for the next few years. The only times she ventured into the village was when she desperately needed something to eat. Occasionally a traveller would pass by and she’d talk to them before they went to Marn.

Life was lonely but Ohlea was still gaining her strength and creating a plan to avenge her father’s death.

Now twenty, Ohlea spends her days practicing martial arts in the morning, hunting and planning. When she comes across someone she eagerly welcomes them to find out more about life outside the forest and to finally have someone to talk to. Ohlea even speaks to the humans to see whether they’re all actually evil and to discover their weaknesses. She misses her father greatly and still hasn’t finished grieving. Her crazy life will not end until the finds an answer to the problem that dwells within.

Willow...

Hiding your identity on Christmas means coal in your stocking. Coal.

It is much better than the previous applications though. Please don't try to hide your identity, we staff can see all.

Well you're determined.

I'm going to put you in Railtus and Devon's hands, since they've been helping you.

Excellent character and welcome aboard! Thanks for making so many improvements and taking our comments on board.

Coal. :P

A few details in your backstory need fixing to match the setting.
Across a vast desert, through a callous forest, over a deep river and behind a magical gate was the small village of O’Sheath; ten miles or so from Marn.
Marn is very isolated - in the middle of a wasteland. No village besides Shim is nearby. My advice is move O'Sheath to somewhere along the Ofriyu Mar, there are woods running along that river.
Soon the village had nothing to drink or cook with except a small bowl of the last safe water within ten miles.
Finding safe water in the forest is very easy. An elf village would know how to draw at least some water from the soil or plants nearby, and ten miles is not very far (about a 3 hour walk).
The last elves left were an elderly elf of 1000yrs, a mother elf who cared for the three five year olds and Ohlea. The elderly elf was the next to go when she went to confront the Karnians of this madness.
Elves only live up to roughly 300.

Forgot something else.

Gold is not used as currency in Thar Shaddin. Instead we use the bishan. Gold is still valuable, but wont be made into coins.

If you have any trouble getting started or if no one joins your thread, here are some basic tips.

A good start would be to create a new topic/thread in the Player Communication forums ( http://www.tharshaddin.com/rp/viewforum.php?f=1 ), announcing that you are new and looking to start, and what kind of stories you would be interested in, and what plot hooks you would be able to bring yourself. I know you have an IC thread already open, but some people prefer planning to spontaniety.

We also have the Plot Discussion Forum (http://www.tharshaddin.com/rp/viewforum.php?f=2) where you can see something about the threads going on - we have discussion threads (an OOC forum where we plan out where we want to take the story or anything which needs changing as we go along, we can do the same with PM but if playing as a group a discussion thread inculdes everyone) where you can post to ask to join if that helps.

Welcome and Merry Christmas.
