Am I too strict with applications?
You improved a lot and continue to do so. So have I. I've been reading some stuff lately and have been playing around a bit, but there is no substitute for practice.Asiona & Lateus wrote:When we first started TS (back when it was TH) we had some pretty bad writers, including me (thankfully I've matured and gotten better, I hope), and I wouldn't want to go back to that. It's not fun.
I know that any time a moderator says anything to anyone, whether it's "your profile needs work" or "this post needs to be changed because of x" people can take it personally. It depends on the person. I won't be mean unless they do something more than have bad English or a weak character idea.Asiona & Lateus wrote:I must admit I've been on the receiving end of insulting appraisals of my profile and that's not cool, so maybe just tell them point-blank but don't be mean. Unless they really deserve it, like anime characters. That annoys me to NO END. I like anime, but they totally warp the characters to how they want and ruin the original story. I don't understand it. Can't they make up their own ideas to roleplay with?
There have been some funny ones in the past. I will only do that it when it's -really- bad.By the way, when you shoot profiles down it is a source of entertainment for me, so don't stop now.
I don't need a falchion since I'll never be fighting anyone in any kind of armor. Assumedly.

The times I got insulted were around the same time as I used Raven. You may remember how I wrote with Raven and I wasn't that atrocious, I hope. I still wished I developed her better how I had planned to use her. She came off too normal. [/end rant before I rant]
I feel that way all the time. It's usually when I have to post during school or I don't feel up to it. I have my good days and my bad days with writing. You were perfectly fine, our characters didn't work very well together overall and I wasn't feeling particularly thrilled about RP at the time. It was me that was bad (^_^; )I look back at my profile and still wonder why the hell you accepted it, so you are not that strict. :p Even now I look at my posts and think they are shit.

You have come a long way from the fiery whip wielding lady.
a) we all get along, so there is no real fighting. I prefer it this way though.
b) everything is so freeform, dead ends might happen. Real life ain't always interesting.
Writing is only half of what matters here. The other half is inspiration and the ability to figure out how to make things fun. I can't always do it. Sometimes things just don't go anywhere. That is the result of two things:You were perfectly fine, our characters didn't work very well together overall and I wasn't feeling particularly thrilled about RP at the time. It was me that was bad (^_^; )

I like the atmosphere here above other RP boards. There are a lot of places with the "we're just here to play" attitude... Personally, I don't think it's as good. Here, we all get along, which breeds respect, and respect for other characters, and the board, too.
It's also the reason I'm here every day I can be

I think the setting of the world always influences the atmosphere as well as the members. For example, this board concentrates (mainly) on Thar which is a relatively small part of the whole world. It is also a subdued place where things appear to be very grim and as such "fun", as it were, is less likely to spring up spontaneously. Regardless of the freeform, as Frug pointed out.

"may" implies I have a choice. I choose not to.Jenica Sabiny wrote:I take full credit for the atmosphere. You may bow.
I find this place wonderfully depressing at times, usually when I'm prowling during insomniac frenzy, unable to muster the effort topost IC, barely able to keep tapping F5 in a vain effort to find someone to talk to.

Meh. This is your house, your rules. The level of RP here is easily the most impressive I have ever come across and the ship is a pretty tight one.
Given that you only really become angry at every one in twenty applications, I'd say you're fine.
You can find RP for your character anywhere. Thar is special, largely because of its elitism. We're good at this, and are allowed to be demanding if you want to play.

You'll need to explain your disagreement with being able to find role play for your character anywhere. I've found this to be true also. Not quality role playing, necessarily, but it's definitely easy to find a board that accepts anyone and have at it.
Also, with the quality of the writing from our own authors, I doubt any of us would have trouble moving to a different board and being accepted.

How can you disagree with both comments and not be contradicting yourself?Calico wrote:I Disagree. You can find RP for your character anywhere.
And once again, I disagree. SorryThar is special, largely because of its elitism.
If you can't find RP for your character anywhere, that makes Thar elite because it's rare and special, because you can't find RP for your character anywhere. If you disagree with Thar's elitism then that must mean you can find RP for your character elsewhere, and therefore you are contradicting your first disagreement.
QED.
