Mavarion

Post by Mavarion » Mon Aug 28, 2006 1:18 am

Player Name: David (Kamar)

Character Name: Mavarion
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Age: 79
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 190 lbs
Hair: Black
Eyes: Black, no whites

Physical Appearance:

Mavarion is an older human, going on 80 years of age. With bowed shoulders, white hair and a plethora of wrinkles, his broadness and height hints at a powerful physique when he was younger. He is much skinnier now than he was in his prime, though he still stands erect with impeccable posture, perhaps showing a military background. Even though he is aged, the light in his pure black eyes hints at a power beyond that of normal men, and a nimbleness of mind that belies his time ravaged body. Something in those eyes, beyond even the fact that he has no whites, also shows a vast insanity.

Mavarion is often found wearing simple black robes with a hood, occasionally with a cloak, that covers his entire body from head to foot. On the back of the cloak, and on the sleeves of his robes, a blood red teardrop symbol is imprinted with gold stitching around the edges.

Equipment:

Mavarion carries no weapons to speak of, aside from a small knife hidden up his left sleeve. Within the folds of his robes are many pockets, some magical, in which he carries a small fortune of Bishan, spellbooks, blank books, and writing implements, food when travelling, clothing and many other mundane items for day to day living. Even with the many items in it's various pockets, the robes do not seem overly heavy.

Powers/Weaknesses:

Mavarion wields powerful magic, much to do with death and destruction, but is limited in the spells he can cast. As an old man, much of the vitality he once had has been worn away by the dark powers he controls, and he can only cast a few spells at a time, maybe 3 or 4 times in a period of a week.

Mavarion is an old man, and as such is barely capable of defending himself when he can no longer cast spells. Due to his militaristic training when younger, he can still be deadly against untrained foes, such as an average thief thinking to rob an old man. However, against stronger foes, Mavarion would surely lose without his magical abilities to call upon.

Spells:

Inflict Wounds: By touching a target, Mavarion can channel negative energy into that target, causing wounds to appear.

Doom: Fills targets within a 10 foot radius of Mavarion with a feeling of horrible dread. They tend to view Mavarion with extreme fear and do not attempt to attack him unless severely provoked.

Shatter: Creates a loud, ringing noise that breaks brittle objects (glass, crystal, ceramic, porcelain) in a five foot radius of Mavarion, or one targeted, 50 lb object

Poison: Causes one glass of water or one plate of food to be poisoned.

Corrupt Weapon: Weakens metal weapons, causing them to break should they be used against other weapons.

Horrid Wilting: With time and concentration, Mavarion can cause water to evaporate from the body of each creature within a 20 foot radius. After merely seconds, the creature will feel weak, nauseous, and dizzy. After a minute, much of the moisture will be sucked from a creature, and death is likely near. Much longer than this will result in a dried piece of meat.

Banishment: This takes much of Mavarion's strength and magical ability. Often only used in conjunction with Summoning. This spell banishes an extraplanar creature from the mortal plane.

Summoning: Much preparation and concentration is needed to cast this spell. No distractions can be around when Mavarion casts. This is used only after extensive preparation and only for certain times. One demon/devil is summoned to speak on behalf of Mavarion's patron goddess.

Disintegrate: One targeted object of Mavarion's choice (50lbs- 100lbs) disintegrates into ash. (Cannot be used on people)

History:

Mavarion was born on the western shores of the continent upon which Thar Shaddin is found. He grew there to a young man, and was well respected. He took a job with the local guard, receiving training and quickly moving up in the ranks. Being a rather militaristic area, he was soon noticed by military captains, and was soon conscripted into the army. Even the Knights Griori, an Order that upholds goodly virtues, heard of his promise, and came to ask him to join their ranks. However, they decided that he was too unstable and lacked several of the key virtues embodied by the Order, thus leaving him to his own devices.
In the army, Mavarion rose quickly, proving through his charismatic ways that he was a leader of men. Soon he commanded a legion of thousands, and was sent to the north to bring more land and glory to his king and country.

Many are the stories of his fall from grace, but to put it simply, he did fall. He became enamored of foul magic, spending his time at night locked away. Many of his legion captains made complaints to the king, but Mavarion was still too good at what he did to have the legion taken from him.
Soon he was no longer wearing the silver armor of the legion, but black armor with wicked spikes on the shoulders and sharpened plates on the forearms and helm. On the chest of the breastplate was a blood red tear drop. Many of the captains that complained about Mavarion vanished, replaced by others wearing similar markings, though still wearing the silver of the legions. Many deprivations followed, slaughter, burning, torture. Whole cities fled before the destruction of Mavarion's legion.

It was too much for the king. Mavarion's legions were recalled, and Mavarion himself met with the king in his throne room. Stripped of his armor and weapons before the meeting, he was made to kneel before the king, who then sentenced Mavarion to death for crimes of war.
Mavarion, now serving a higher, darker power, looked up to the king, the whites of his eyes suddenly flooding black until they were no longer seen. Power rushed through Mavarion, a power he had asked for but never received. With a word, the king burst into flame, leaving nothing but ashes where he had once stood.

Mavarion turned on the guards, who scattered. No one attempted to stop him as he made his way back to the legion. Those loyal to him departed with him at that moment, and he and a small force left the country, never returning.

Years passed, and Mavarion served his higher power, through his force of arms and his budding magical abilities as well. One night, he simply vanished.

He has now returned, in Thar Shaddin.
