Anson Themin (or, to his friends, the Tall Tinkerer)

Age: 19

Height: 5’11”

Weight
: 140

Gender: Male

Race: Human (actually, ¼ gnome, but few actually know that; in fact, he doesn’t even know that)

Hair/Eye Colours: Dark Hair, usually matted down, and brown eyes

Equipment
-Toolkit with widgets and screw-bits, rubber bands, and other things that don’t seem terribly useful for a toolkit
-A long-coat of gadgets (see below)
-Goggles
-A small savings built up from his long apprenticing at the factories in the industrial district (as long as he’s not looking for whats-it components, Anson is quite frugal)

Powers:
-Gnome adoption: Ability to repair / create minor gnomish devices
-Techno-mimic (a.k.a. Patent-theft): If he witnesses any mage, shaman, or other magical being performing a spell, he may be able to mimic the spell’s effects with a single-use device, if he has the opportunity to gain the necessary components; this power has not previously been used and will present itself during game-play if a lot of magic is bouncing around
-Great work ethic

Weaknesses
-Lack of worldly experience (thus, having led a somewhat homogeneous life at the factory with gnomish folk, Anson can be rather nervous around more exotic races, such as vampires and fae, and by nervous, I mean scream and throw random explosive widgets)
-Tendency to make things that blow up when they shouldn’t or not blow up when they should (hey, just because he learned from the gnomes doesn’t make him great at inventing, even for a gnome!).
-Anything else that will adequately kill humans and other squishy-based life forms

Physical Appearance: Factory worker style clothing with dark smock, cap and goggles—always goggles. There is usually soot or other evidence of incendiary events happening in his general, well, face.
Possible gadgets:
-The explosive widget, in all shapes and varieties of explosion
-A propeller good for a feather-fall effect
-Small jet-skates
-An automatic face-scrubber, which, due to a minor miscalculation in torque, can be used as a rather brutal melee weapon.

History:
Anson Themin was orphaned at a very young age (six) when his father, a humble merchant of Marn by the name of Nasan, died of a lung disease. The healers just couldn’t pin it down—at least for the skill of the healers poor Nasan could afford—and Nasan had lived with the cough for years before finally expiring. Anson’s mother, a part-gnome on her father’s side, had died in child-birth. Neither Anson nor his father knew that she was part-gnome, as some rather shady government inquiries into her non-human heritage left a somewhat shame-filled bad taste in the collective family mouth. One who DID remember the family connection was a “friend of the family,” in reality Anson’s uncle, Miyanos, a factory head of Marn’s gnomish industrial quarter. Miyanos took the young lad in and, after years of hanging around the factory, Anson finally managed to become a rather skilled technician and tough worker in the plants. Of course, at first the kid was just another bumbling human who broke more than he fixed, due to the vast difference between human and gnomish reality paradigms. Even as an older teenager, he occasionally creates a somewhat comical explosion (less comical to the gnomes who have to pay for it, but at least Anson helps clean up the mess).

Anson, however, has recently lost contentment with his lot. What is life like outside this district, he wonders. Though mostly human (all human by his knowledge), he has not had much companionship of his own people in many years, and has a lot of curiosity about the world. He recently strolled into his mentor’s office to take his leave and strike out on his own in the world, perhaps to make roots as an entrepreneur not unlike his father. Miyanos too thought some adventure might be good for the boy, provided he didn’t starve to death first, and many plant gnomes gave a fond farewell and a few provisions to their tallest tinkerer before his departure. Then they started a betting pool on what kind of explosive damage would mark his return…

As of his initial migration, Anson isn’t entirely sure where to go or what to do, but he will be checking job postings on the southern and eastern side carefully, and toying with the idea of traveling to Shim or some other exotic place. He does not consider the toys in his toolkit as magical and still thinks generally in the mindset that his technology follows some laws of physics, however clumsy he is at explaining them to other people. He sometimes fantasizes about industrializing the world to rely less on the magical elite (who in turn are tied to government restrictions). In combat, he tends to comically run and jump every which way, retreat, feint, return, and at the most crucial moment of battle, use a device that will result in victory… for one side or the other…. Dumb luck is usually his friend.

Arg! This is my fault, and I apologize: You need to register a name WITHOUT a number, please. Sorry I didn't mention that; I forgot that you used that name for like, EVERYthing.

You can register it in the character's actual name, or this one without the 18. Whatever you prefer. Each screen name is given one character to play.

Sorry again, man!

Is this getting redone or not? I'm giving this profile another three days or it goes inactive.
The world is an arena, not a stage. RP is a stage, not an arena.
