Enjoy.
If violence is not the answer, you have asked me the wrong question.

I usually do. That's kinda my problem.
I have to jump.

For even if I fall, for a moment, I will fly.

It takes 14 lbs of pressure to break the human elbow.
I have to jump.

If a bullet could send someone flying like it does in the movies, it would basically have to send the guy shooting it flying in the opposite direction... Unless it had a tiny rocket on it or something.

Well, I know that a 12 gauge slug can knock a running deer flat onto its side, so it's possible.

But not with those 9 mm, which I assume you're talking about. Hollywood at large and such.

Last night, I was coming home from friends house (who lives an hour away) and was driving through this small town and saw a huge orange glow on the horizon.

I went to investigate, and it was the town's library. Totally. engulfed. In flames. There were three firetrucks there who were fighting a loosing battle as I watched it eat away the roof over the course of a half-hour. You could tell when it consumed another bookshelf because there would be a sudden huge fireball that would just surge up out of the building. It was surreal.
Yar, says I.

ooooooooooo fire. Me likee. Me likee lots.

It would take 240 lemons wired up together in a series of parallel circuits to provide enough electricity to start a car.

That's awful. What a waste of books. the destruction of the library of alexandria is like, the worst thing ever. Next to all the other worse things that have happened. But it's up there.

For a bullet of any kind to have a certain amount of force on impact, that same amount of force has to push something in the opposite direction. So that deer is only being hit with however much force that the gun is making on your shoulder, which I suppose is a lot, but not like in movies.

I watched an episode of mythbusters on this subject and was rolling my eyes the whole time. They kept trying to knock over a dummy by shooting it, and it was so hopeless.

Newton's second law, isn't it? Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. I think it be the second... i can't remember.

A calorie is defined as the amount of energy required to raise the temperature of one kilogram of water by one degree celsius.

Burning about two grams of Ethanol produces one calorie.

Sure, his second law, why not. I don't think of it in terms of laws, I just have a basic model in my head, which I'm sure Einstein would tell me is wrong.

The metric system is full of brilliant equations like the one you give above and related to water. One cubic centimeter of water weighs one gram and freezes at 0 celcius.

I suppose the weight is at some given temperature though.

Yeah, I think about it in similar ways to you. I just remember A-Level physics and apparently the science communities would argue about it for whatever reason.

Water freezes at 273K (0C), yes. But it also melts at 273K. This puts it in a state of semi-solidification, which is wonderfully annoying when you have to perform practical experiments on it.

Water is most dense at 277K (4C), which means that a kilo of water at room temp will weigh a few hundred grams more at 277K.

(Sorry, I've dealt with Kelvin for too long. Added Celsius as an afterthought 8) )

You mean a given volume, not mass.

There was a theory that glass is actually a liquid, and people claimed that the proof of this was that the windows on old houses were thicker at the bottom than at the top.
I was later shown somewhere, can't remember where, that this was a result of how the windows were made, not the glass slowly flowing downward over time.

Glass is a form of plasma created by the bastard marriage of silicon and a few other random elements that were never intended to cobine.

Technically, it IS liquid at room temperature, but it is also solid at the same time, and gas at a few degrees above.

Glass probably has the oddest set of physical and chemical properties - number one, perhaps, that it conducts electricity, and is perhaps the last thing that we should decide to put in gaping holes in our homes.

But we do. Silly us :P

I've always had a lot of trouble with this whole glass being clear thing. It's like "look at meeee, i'm invisible. I'm perfectly solid and dense and everything, but you can see right through me!" That has always pissed me off. Not to mention water. I declare both these things to be impossible.
