"Snakes. Why did it have to be snakes?"
Re: "Snakes. Why did it have to be snakes?"
She was going through the selection of food that had been gathered. Vegetables, precut into heart shapes, another steak, and some fruit as well, arranged neatly. Rhyn was ready to just through it all into a breakfast meal. She looked up at the annoyance in Kaevad's voice, and then startled her quiet, chuffing laugh-sound. Soneya went to help him, but it was amusing nonetheless, to see him stuck, tangled into the lacy decoration.
Still laughing, she started the process of cooking, planning on frying the mixture of veggies and putting it in with the steak. Maybe there was some eggs in the icebox, or she could slip away and gather some from the villagers' chickens.

Re: "Snakes. Why did it have to be snakes?"
Kaevad snorted at her cursing before grumbling himself. "I don't know!" He defended himself. "Bloody things have a life of their own-" Rip "Oh dear... think I'll see if I can hunt down something to compensate for that." Kaevad teased, looking up before keeping his eyes on her feet determinedly. Changers, he hadn't MEANT to look there!! She freed him and he looked up, smiling, only to follow her gaze and frown. He didn't like the look of that girl. Possessive and she didn't even know him. He got an idea.
"Sorry love, but follow my lead." He kicked the chair from out underneath her and caught her before hugging her close, much like a man would hug his woman, twirling a moment. Had he explained his plan before, he might've even kissed her, but for now that was enough of a show for the girl to get the idea he might not be interested in her. Long blonde hair or no, it took someone of minimal personality to moon over someone she barely knew. Kaevad preferred his women... well fiery. Someone who could match a dragon and stand toe-to-toe with one.
Rhyn was decent at that but... well... she was a bit too stiff about it. Like a hot iron almost. The thought amused him a moment before he realized he still had Soneya in his arms. Making sure his back faced the window he brought his face down right next to Soneya's ear, making it look as though he were kissing her. "I'm not one for someone who simply stands there and moons over someone without having the bravery to at least say hi. Easier to make her believe I'm not available." He kissed her cheek before straitening with a wink and setting the girl on the ground.
"Why not help Rhyn with the food? I'll see if I can dig up some plates or something to set the table with."

Re: "Snakes. Why did it have to be snakes?"
“Whaa...!!” Soneya screamed as Kaevad suddenly kicked their chair out from underneath her, only to catch her mid-air a moment later. She was completely surprised by the move and hadn’t even had time to register his words before the action. For a moment, she felt as though he was about to kiss her and every single hair on her body stood on end as she gazed into his eyes for maybe just a fraction of a second too long before she looked away, somewhat embarrassed.
When she glanced out the window, she realised the girl had a very horrified look on her face and it sunk in that this was the reason why Kaevad had done what he had, which would explain his brief warning before he had kicked the chair out from underneath her. However, somehow, he didn’t release her out of his embrace either. She didn’t want to fidget, but suddenly she was very aware of his hands, his closeness and she felt like she would soon start squirming or shivering or something that would betray her. That would not do. She should just stop these nonsensical emotions right now before they went overboard. Though that was easier said than done.
Impossible to stop her heart going off on a crazy flutter when Kaevad all of a sudden bent down towards her. She knew why he did because he explained it but she couldn’t help but imagine something else and she began to loathe herself for thinking such foolish thoughts, but she couldn’t help it. And she couldn’t deny that there was an awkward similarity between her and the girl they had just managed to chase off. Swallowing hard, she merely nodded at his words and avoided looking into his eyes as she made her way over to Rhyn.
Putting on a more casual expression and trying to revert back to her earlier light-hearted tone, she called out: “Alright. What’s for breakfast?” As she looked things over, she had to chuckle involuntarily. “There really are a lot of heart-shaped things here! But she really did pack this basket for a dragon. There’s so much!”

Re: "Snakes. Why did it have to be snakes?"
Rhyn's ears perked and her hand tightened on the knife as Soneya screamed. But she sighed and smiled slightly as she caught sight of Kaevad just spinning the girl around, next to an overturned chair. She shook her head as she turned back to making the food, shifting to human so that she wouldn't get any of her fur in the food. Her hair fell down into her pale-skinned face, shadowing pale eyes as she began to slice things into shapes that were logical to fry together.
"Would you check the ice-box for eggs, Soneya?" Eggs were always a nice addition to a meal for breakfast. And since there was already all of this food. Her hands moved easily, familiar with using knives and it was quite obvious. The woman seemed to be completely unaware of her nude state. She didn't move in ways that asked for attention, but neither did she hide, and her gaze was as direct as it ever was.
"Kaevad? Are you sure you don't want any?" Her eyes fixated on the man for a moment.

Re: "Snakes. Why did it have to be snakes?"
Kaevad straitened and sighed as he watched the girl run with her face in her hands. Poor lass, better this way. He heard Rhyn send Soneya for the eggs and was about to say they were on the shelf - the only real things in there - when she asked him if he wanted any. He turned to deny her before flushing scarlet. Had he really be thinking her to be stiff and formal earlier? Nude!! She was naked as they day she was born! And just STARING at him, asking if he wasn't sure he wanted any- he looked to the ceiling, face as scarlet as his hair. "No, no I'm quite alright, thank ye lass." He turned to his room, still scarlet but unsure if it'd be rude of him to leave or not.

Re: "Snakes. Why did it have to be snakes?"
Soneya obligingly went to the icebox to take a peek inside but was astonished to see that there was literally nothing. Thus she went to browse the rest of the cupboards, not paying any attention to the exchange between Rhyn and Kaevad. When she finally found the eggs on the shelf, she turned around with a triumphant smile on her face, only to see Kaevad having turned an unnaturally red. Just one quick look at Rhyn told her why and she pressed her lips together in an attempt to hide the giggle that was threatening to burst forth.
“Didn’t you want to find plates?” Soneya asked innocently as she looked at him with the broadest grin. Nudging Rhyn briefly, she put down the eggs next to the pan and began working as though nothing had happened. Just a little joke amongst girls. Such fun, such fun!
She honestly hadn’t thought he would blush this much but it was sort of cute. Although, after preaching so many times that he was 220 years old, she had thought he would be past blushing at the mere sight of a naked woman. Granted, she herself had been a little embarrassed the first time round, but she was still young as well and had not grown up in a terribly open household. Plus, Rhyn didn’t mind, so she tried to act just as nonchalant about it.

Re: "Snakes. Why did it have to be snakes?"
Rhyn's head tilted as he flushed read. She didn't understand why. There was no reason for him to be... what was it that blushing among humans meant again? Embarrassment? Why would he be embarrassed? Her eyes were confused, but she didn't linger over the question, instead turning and smiling lightly at Soneya. Though she obviously wasn't comfortable in her fully human form, she moved easily as she sliced up vegetables and meat. There was a pan on the stove heating already.
Sizzling started as she tossed the steak in, knowing that it woudl take longer to cook than the vegetables.

Re: "Snakes. Why did it have to be snakes?"
Kaevad glared at the women. So it was going to be like that eh? Embarrass the man eh? Right. "Afraid not love, hadn't realized shifters could run around naked without anything to worry about." And so he grinned at her and flicked the ties of his pants off easily, stepping out of them once they hit the ground. He bent to grab the material and tossed it on a chair, walking to the kitchen, whistling a tune as he hunted for the plates.
Finding them and setting the table he acted at ease - which is mostly was. He still was uncomfortable with Rhyn being nude, but he was fine with his own nudity. He walked by, and if one of the women chose to look, they'd note claw mark scars along his lower back and thighs. Some even cut close to his crotch, but disappeared under his own... fur. He stood and faced Soneya fully. "Something wrong love? You seemed fine a couple minutes ago."

Re: "Snakes. Why did it have to be snakes?"
Somehow, in her head, Soneya had not seen this backfire. Really not. In her mind, she had seen him blush a little more and probably shoot her turned back a glare. But what he actually did, no, she really hadn’t thought he would do such a thing. Especially not after the way he had been blushing so fiercely at Rhyn’s nudity.
The egg she had been holding in her hand dropped to the floor with a plaintive crack when Soneya turned around to see what he was talking about, though she really shouldn’t have. She could have figured it out without looking from what he had said.
Why did she have to turn around? Why did she have to look? Now she was stuck and couldn’t stop looking! How embarrassing!
Problem was that she had never seen a naked man before, and the sight was stunning Soneya beyond comprehension. Stunning, shocking and somewhat arousing. Blushing an even fiercer red than Kaevad had before when his voice drifted through to her, she tore her eyes away from his well sculpted body, despite the scars – they almost seemed to make him look even more appealing – and stammered something utterly incomprehensible.
How could he be so.. normal?! He was naked! With two women! One of which was naked as well! All of a sudden, it was a bit too much for Soneya, and she desperately tried to distract herself by trying to mop up the egg she had scattered over the floor but in her current state, she merely ended up spreading it out even more. How utterly humiliating!

Re: "Snakes. Why did it have to be snakes?"
Rhyn was paying attention mostly to the food that she was cooking. It was not until the egg splattered across the floor, some of it hitting a bare foot, that she looked up, to find Soneya hastily trying to mop up the egg she had dropped, and Kaevad standing, now nude, in plain sight. Her eyes raked over him swiftly, her lips twitching in up in one corner appreciatively. But Soneya's panicked reaction had her thinking for a moment, trying to think what could have startled the girl so much about Kaevad's nakedness when she was not by Rhyn's.
Vaguely, Bradley's voice ran through her mind, explaining that the lowlands were different, that humans were put off by nakedness, that it was not normal, doubly so in Marn. Her eyebrows pulled together, and she reached out, pulling a towel from one of the drawers and tossing it to Soneya so that she could wipe up the egg easier.
"Really, Kaevad. She's turns a brighter color than you. Is the point made? You have clothing! I do not." Slightly scolding, she turned back to the food, stirring the slices of steak so that they would cook evenly.

Re: "Snakes. Why did it have to be snakes?"
He watched her watch him, listened to her speak nonsense, only to smile at Rhyn when she scolded him. He'd seen her look as well, he wasn't blind. He looked back to Soneya and watched her scrub furiously, refusing to look up and a very interesting shade of red. "Aye, but more fun this way. Besides, it's not fair if you have all the fun." His tone was light, teasing, as he carefully crouched to help pick up the eggshells.
"Terrible waste of food, love." He wasn't worried about her staring - she could look or touch if she wanted- the thought made him freeze a moment before he took a deep calming breath and thought of other things. Relaxed he stood and tossed the shells he collected into the garbage. "Besides, I'm not overly sure what the difference is. I run around shirtless." He leaned easily against the counter, feigning innocence.
"Not like I've got anything to hide really." He shrugged before gesturing and speaking without thought. "I'm up for grabs." He stopped and blushed scarlet as he realized what he said. "N-n-not what I meant to say- I- Changers... I'll go get dressed...." And moved to do so, the color of his face rivaling the red of his hair.

Re: "Snakes. Why did it have to be snakes?"
Mortified, she was absolutely mortified. And to make things worse, Kaevad even bent down to help her collect the eggshells. Thankfully, Rhyn tossed her a towel, which she gingerly picked up to try and mop up the mess in a less ridiculous manner. The towel provided her with enough distraction, for the time being, to not look at Kaevad. He was so close, so damn close, and naked. He was still naked! Her cheeks were burning and she was sure that Rhyn soon wouldn’t need the frying pan anymore to heat the food, her face would suffice.
Yes, he did run around shirtless, and it was a pretty sight. But shirtless and without pants were two very different things. She would have said so out loud but her throat was too dry and she knew that she wouldn’t even be able to utter the words. At least not in a way they’d understand, it would only come out as gibberish again.
Soneya was a bit of a prude, quite simply, and added to that, she had never seen a naked man. The only reason why she was somewhat comfortable with Rhyn’s nudity was quite simply the fact that she knew what she herself looked like and concluded from herself to others. They were both women, there was nothing to see that she hadn’t before.
Gasping in horror at his words, Soneya looked up from the floor and straight at.. well.. him, on full display. But the fact that he had all of a sudden lost his momentum with the whole nakedness as well and was back to feeling embarrassed somewhat broke the tension and Soneya even laughed.
“Maybe that would be better, yes,” she agreed as she averted her eyes again, ashamed that she hadn’t even once during those words looked at his face. His comment had made another shiver run down her spine and spit was beginning to pool in her mouth at an abnormal rate, making her swallow more often than normal. What the hell was wrong with her?

Re: "Snakes. Why did it have to be snakes?"
Rhyn turned, one eyebrow cocking as he said that she couldn't have all the fun. it was different. Soneya was a woman, and there was nothing Rhyn had that Soneya did not. Albeit, her chest was a different size, and such as that. And him running around shirtless, while not odd at all to Rhyn, might be slightly odd to Soneya, who was a puradyn. Even men in Marn probably stripped off their shirts when it got too hot, but that didn't mean it was polite society. Even Rhyn could understand that, despite her mostly solitary life.
Moments later though, she snorted as he spoke, and then blushed furiously again, and rushed to get back to his clothing. Not so open as he thought, eh? Up for grabs indeed. The man wasn't taken by a woman, and that was fine and dandy, but he hardly would allow either Soneya or Rhyn to snatch him up and make him truly unavailable to others. Preaching about being able to live so long, having lived so long already... He was reluctant to let anybody close. Subtly, as he pulled his pants back on, the stocky woman glanced at him with golden eyes, trying to imagine what it would be like to have lived so long.
She couldn't quite fathom it. One lifetime was enough, and she knew that hers would be extended like all those of her race. Even twenty years was a long time. Two hundred more on top of that was daunting. This is the reason you live in the now, cat. Yesterday is gone, and tomorrow does not exist. All you have is now. She stirred the food once more, and scooped the mixture of vegetables into it, glad for the grease from the steak that was now making the pan slick so that food didn't stick to it.
"Soneya, the eggs?" Best to just keep everything flowing along. She looked around, searching for the basket of eggs that Soneya had brought down from the shelf. She had only dropped one.
Idly, her mind wandered back to Kaevad, his statement about being "up for grabs" making her wonder. What was it like to be with somebody? She had only ever been with Brad, and that was always a special relationship. She had been half daughter, half pet to him, and he had been a father and protector to her. The relationship had been one of quiet companionship. She had never even thought that there might be somebody out there, as there had been for her mother. Within moments, the thought faded. Even though he was a shapeshifter, it didn't matter. Kaevad and her didn't match up. He would never survive the high reaches, a reptile as he was. And the age difference alone... She remembered how he tried to protect her and Soneya. Stubborn and old, despite his looks.

Re: "Snakes. Why did it have to be snakes?"
Kaevad slid his trousers on, still blushing, and turned back to Soneya, smiling wryly at her. He took a moment to look out the window and cringed. He had more fans. "Well... no more of that then... looks like I'm going to need a pelt to cover my window for our stay as well." He moved away from the windows, taking care to avoid them as he moved into his room and quickly set to putting up one of his furs against the window. Another couple minutes was taken to make sure the window was sealed tightly. Women were crazy.
He came back out, watching the women eat a moment before moving away to recline on the couch and snooze, his wings half tucked around him, and arm over his eyes. Changers, he hadn't been this relaxed since- no... not going to go there. Vaguely he began to rethink the romance aspect of his life. Certainly he didn't want to live alone forever, even he knew better than that to think that he'd be able to manage that. But would it be fair to the women?
No, he decided, it wouldn't. They would have to be warned, and then treated well. Very well. He'd treat them like a queen, he'd give them what they desired for most he'd- an image of Soneya, delighted and dancing, floated into his mind causing his eyes to snap open. Changers! No, no,no,no,no... she was young! Too young- technically any mortal would be too young for him at this point but still- she deserved to live! Oh she'd live well as your mate. When the fuck did you start interfering with my love life!?

Re: "Snakes. Why did it have to be snakes?"
“Oh, right, the eggs,” Soneya stammered, still flustered as she turned back to the counter and started working on breakfast with Rhyn. It was way better for her to concentrate on preparing food than thinking about what had just transpired. Definitely better. Food preparations were soon done however, neither the steak nor the vegetables taking too long and eggs were quick anyhow. It was a good little mix, though Soneya kept away from the steak for the most part. Her stomach was a little unsettled after all the nakedness and vegetable-egg omelette sounded much better to her than steak. At least at that moment in time.
Breakfast passed quietly but it was a comfortable and companionable silence which Soneya quite enjoyed. She had rarely been around anyone she could be silent with so well than Rhyn. Not even Kaevad dozing on the couch was unsettling in the least. She couldn’t imagine being in a situation like this with her parents, ever. They always had to complain about something or talk about politics or some such nonsense, and silences in their house were icy and accusing. This was so different, it almost felt surreal.
She still tried not to look at Kaevad too much however. It hadn’t escaped her that since he had once again hugged her the night before, he had somehow tried to avoid her, apart from trying to scare off the long-haired girl. Everything else had just been joking and teasing – much to her embarrassment, even the mere thought brought the colour back to her cheeks. But other than that... She really was a fool for leading herself on. Merely because she had never been in a relationship or even had a guy be remotely interested in her did not mean that the first guy, who was actually nice to her and cared for her, was going to fall head over heels for her. She had fairy tale notions get out of hand and play tricks on her, and she should really stop it before it was too late.
Swallowing down the sigh that threatened to slip out, Soneya got up and took the empty plates back to the kitchen counter to wash them up. When she was done, she turned towards the others. “So what’s the plan for today?”
