She had witnessed too many young bailiffs end up dead or crippled when emboldened by their training into taking foolish engagements, despite facing more experienced fighters. Piao Bai, at least, should have no sense of duty impelling him to risk himself recklessly. Far better to learn the arts of evasion than offence, in her opinion.
The sealed letter weighed heavily in her hands as they approached their assigned resting quarters. She suspected that opening it would mean curtailing their time at the hot spring. As Piao Bai gestured to their room Cai felt a sense of foreboding. "How ready are you for travel, if duty so compels me?"
