Barbarus Cohortis

It had been some time since he had wandered throughout the environment of the city. But still, the Historic District was his home, despite what had happened to him there.

And now, he was returning with a friend. Or at least a business partner. Wulf would prefer the later, but the big man from the North seemed to think that if they were going to be working together, that also made them best friends, just shy of blood brothers. Not that it hadn't already worked out to Wulf's advantage. Especially when someone tried to put their hands on him for having pointier ears than most. All in all, he felt that it would work out well for them in the long run, he just needed to make sure that their 'money man', or in this case, their money gnome, was still willing to fund this venture.

He stopped, tapping his new friend on the shoulder. The Northman, Kori he said his name was, turned with a questioning look on his face. Wulf had slowly taught him a short version of the sign language he had used with his family, and the big man had taken to it fairly well.

Gnome. Money. Boss. Job. Today?

Kori had been in his own thoughts while they walked into the city. He wasn't aware how long Wulf had been gone, having never really discussed it with each other. After all, a mans past was usually his past to have and to share when he felt like it, and neither of them had really felt like it. The last time Kori had been anywhere near the city, he had been involved in a fight with someone he shouldn't have been in a fight with. He had killed someone he shouldn't have, and then he had ran. He had kept himself away from any of the foolishness that could have followed, and the dreams from the black cells had started to fade. He had changed.

But now he was back. He had a new friend, someone to help him that he would help. They would go into this business together, with a gnome who was willing to bankroll their endeavors. The world was a dangerous place, after all.

Kori was pulled out of his thoughts by Wulf's touch, and he watched the signs carefully. They were usually very clear, but he would sometimes forget what they meant, especially if Wulf signed them too fast. The speed was good, and he nodded as Wulf swiped his hand downward, indictating he had ended his sentence.

He signed back, speaking the words out loud for his own sake. It helped him stay focused on what he was saying.

"Yea, we're going to go see Egg today. He said he'd have a job for us by now, and there might be a little travel in it."

They had walked and talked this whole time, and soon stood in front of the gnomes business front. Ever since an unfortunate incident years ago where he had been kidnapped and had bad things happen to him, Egg had became obssessed with the idea of personal security as a business. And if everything went right, that new business would be launched with Wulf and Kori's help. With a shrug at Wulf's questioning eyes, Kori knocked on the door, waiting for Egg to let them in.

His creation was coming to fruition.

Consultations from security experts, including a retired guardsman as a permanent consult. Jacme had helped him navigate the sometimes cumbersome laws of the city, but had decided to come on as a partner as he had begun to see the scope of such a plan. Now, they had several contacts along the trade routes, ready and waiting to let them know for work they would be perfect for. And such a thing had finally arrived, a contract for security on a small caravan carrying important supplies to an out of the way monastery that was known for it's art and illumination. There was something about expensive supplies that needed to arrive before the first snows fell, and they were having issues with their normal security.

That was where Egglebert Tinkerton stepped in. Using Jacme as the 'face' of the company, they had managed to secure the contract. After all, he looked the type, whereas Egg was... well, Egg. And as he heard a knock on the door, he realized that the other two parts of the equation had arrived.

Egg let the meat of the operation in, ushering them to some chairs in front of the fireplace. He had met Wulf first, the half-elf coming off something very bad and looking for work outside of the city. Easy enough, some things Egg had needed picked up and brought back. But the youngster had returned with a giant human from the far North, who seemed to have some sort of history of his own with the city. But that didn't matter. The idea that had been born suddenly came into the world kicking and screaming when Egg realized that he could use these two.

He faced Wulf so that the deaf half-elf could read his lips, and began to fill them in on the job. A small caravan, some security that was part of the company moving the cargo, but not specialists. Which he was hoping these two would be taken as. All they had to do was travel to the monastery with the caravan, and hopefully, he would have a new job waiting for them there, or at least a location to go to so that they could start another job.

"Any questions?"

Wulf had a list of questions, in fact, he had written them all down. He grabbed the parchment from a pouch at his waist, unfolding it and handing it off to Egg carefully. Wulf wasn't a rich man, so the paper quality was.... well, shit. Easily torn. So hopefully the little gnome would take care of it.

The questions were very simple.

How will we be assured payment?
Will there ever be other people working with us through this company?
Will money be provided for supplies, local translators and guides, or does that come out of our own pockets?

The last one felt sensible. Kori didn't spend money insanely, neither did Wulf, but there was always going to be a need for supplies, food, shelter, a guide, someone who spoke the local language. Those expenses would rack up quickly.
