Talia was pouting and by no means very impressed with the idea of going into the sewers. "I am no idiot." She said glaring at him, "Even the smartest man makes a mistake sometimes. I just didn't know how to handle mine properly." She said marching on. She held back a shudder at the smell that hit her as she entered the sewer, but she was determined to last just as long as Drayel did, if not longer. That will show him Talia thought with a grin.

"So who was that young man out there you were getting all snuggly with." Talia questioned raising her eyebrows. "I admit he did have a certain amount of charm." Maybe this will distract him from my screw-ups She thought as she stared at him. Not to mention it will distract me from this horrid smell. She tried not to gag as they continued down the path.

Up ahead she could hear the sounds that the rookie guard had described and already Talia was trying to think of ways that they could tidy or at least help dissipate some of the dough so they could get out as soon as possible.

"That, sounds disgusting." Drayel grimaced as he rounded a corner and peered into the dark unsure, not really sure if he wanted to get much closer to the soggy sloping noise that echoed down one of the large tunnels. "What did you do to it, honestly? Normal bread dough cannot eat shields nor would they scare an average guard."

Catching that 'young man' comment he turned and full out glared at her, his lip curling up in a frightful snarl. He'd had enough of this woman's pesting and with the curling of his stomach getting worse he decided he was not pleased in the slightest.

"That 'young man' I have no idea whom he is. All I know is he is a damn coward and will most likely be killed within the week if he continues to act like that. It is no damned wonder the guard has gone to shits with little craps like him running around." Drayel spat, unsure why he was so determined to throw her off. Perhaps it was the growing unease in his belly he was trying to hide, or perhaps his embarrassment. "As for him 'snuggling' me I will be sure to tell you, tell anybody of that and I will be sure that the history of this mess will be blamed on you and you shall be charged on behalf of damaging property, responsible of stolen goods from the guards, and damned if I won't fine you with improper removal of materials!"

Okay, Drayel was having a bit of a bad day. The moment he stopped his bellowing there was an odd suction sound above his head and white ooze fell from the ceiling right into his hair. Alarmed he let out a yell, shaking his head sharply as the sticky stuff covered his eyes and sank into his hair.

"GET IT OFF!"

"Honestly I don't know what I did really." Talia said rather sheepishly. "I had a bad sleep one night and so I was sleepy that morning when I made the daily bread so I could have done anything really." That was the last time that Talia ventured to stay up late...and she was still paying for it.

When Drayel had turned around and practically growled at her, Talia knew that she had successfully distracted him from herself but not quite in the way she was hoping. She never liked being yelled at much less threatened, the mor he did so she glared harder at him. She wasn't about to let some over-grown, over-zealous man boss her around...even if he was the guard. "Fine then," she snapped, "Tell the world of my horrible evil plot to take over Marn with my evil bread dough minions and have me thrown in the the deepest dungeon. I hope you enjoy stale bread and water." Talia snapped back waving their stuck hands in his face. "You know you don't frighten me, you seem to be more words and nasty looks then action. And for the Changers sake, stop YELLING!" She said as some dough fell on his face.

I am going to regret this Talia thought, holding her breath as she looked for the driest patch of earth...or muck would be a better description. Finding a satisfactory area she coated her spare hand in the stuff. "Now hold still and hold your breathe." Talia instructed strictly. "I'm going to try and get some of this stuff out." Working her hand around the dough she found that the coating of muck on her hands helped to keep the dough from sticking to her as well, just like she often coated her hands in oil or flour to keep dough from sticking to her hands while baking.

"There, I was able to get the big parts out but you are going to have to have a hot shower to get the main bits out." Talia blushed at the thought. "Hopefully your men will have found a way to end this before that happens. Now, coat your hands...maybe your forearms too, in the muck here and lets go searching for the sword or whatever we need to find to get out of here!"

"I-It's going down my back." Drayel grimaced as she proceeded to coat him in some kind of slime. He shuddered before glancing up, his eyes widening when he raised the torch higher. "I...I'm not sure what you did to it... but I can see you added something to make it climb up the ceiling."

He shuddered again before glancing back at her and giving her a grim smile.

"Alright then, let's move." he grumbled giving her hand a squeeze. "Keep your eye on the ceiling and... don't touch the walls. I don't want to have to dig you out with one hand, alright?"

"Oh man up, its only dough and gunk, it won't bite." Talia snapped back, still a little sore from the threats and Drayel snarling at her. "I can handle myself around dough," she continued, "I am a baker after all, I work with the stuff on a daily basis for a living. Its you who should be worried. Screaming like a little girl at a bit of dough in your face. You would have thought it was trying to eat it off." She tried to say it jokingly but it still seemed to come out a bit rough around the edges. Oh well, Drayel will take it any way he wants, doesn't seem to matter how I say it

It didn't take too long before they found and approached the mound of bread dough that was constantly moving which definitely gave it the appearance of something living. Drayel seemed to hesitate but Talia continued to march forward. "Ready to find that shield?" She asked, not looking over at him. "Make sure you cover anything that's going to be touching the dough with the muck on the ground, k? It will help to keep it from sticking." Talia held her breath and tried not to think about what was in the stuff she was rubbing on her arms. At the same time she tried to refrain from grabbing a handful of the stuff and throwing it at Drayel. Smiling to herself she settled with the mental image of him planting face first with in the stuff.

"Oh hardy ha." Drayel grouched as he smudged his way towards her with a huff. He glared. "Careful though, that shield is sharp." He growled as he jammed the end of the torch in his teeth, holding it sideways with a growl as he tried to ignore the damn wood on his tongue. Shoving his hand in he began feeling around for it as well, wincing when the dough slid into his boot.

Grunting a bit he edged farther in, wary of the dough and it's unknown weapons. He'd found a helmet, an arrow, poked by a dagger, and then.... the chest piece of somebody's armor. His eyes widened as he glanced over at her. She hadn't noticed. He hesitated before pushing it back under. He'd deal with this dough and the armor later. He still wasn't sure if there was a body underneath and he didn't want her to see it. He continued his searches with her, hoping none had actually found this breaded death and he swore never to eat another one of her loaves. This was simply atrocious.

"I think I found it!" Talia cried tugging on something with her free hand. "Come help me with it." Together they were able to get most of the dough to loosen its hold. "Pull together on three." Drayel said, and following his intructions she did, the dough didn't seem to want to let go but then all of a sudden with a loud squelching sound it finally gave up the sheild. Of course it also sent Talia tumbling, almost taking Drayel down with her.

"Well we got the shield." She said looking up at him from her seat on the ground. "What now? Shall we head back to the barracks with it and the rest of this junk we found?" She asked as the gestured to the weapons that they had found while trying to find the sword. Standing up and attempting to brush off the much from her clothes and body she continued. "Or have you decided you want me to continue to sift through this crap before you ship me off to who knows where?" Talia was starting to get grumpy. She didn't like being dirty and she didn't like this smelly place.

"Either way we are going to need to take a shower, or at the very least jump into the river. You, dear Drayel, stink. And don't even think about mentioning how I look," she interrupted him as he was about to respond, "I know I can't smell any better then you and I probably look worse." My poor hair she thought, looking mournfully at the rather messy end of her long braid that had chunks of dough and goodness knows what else.

"You suggest swimming in that?" Drayel grimaced as he gave her a sharp look of denial. "We're leaving the sewers, that are pointed and probably leaking somewhere into there, and you want to swim in it? Bah on that!"

Drayel took hold of the shield and threw it on his back. Then with a determined grunt he pulled her gently away from the still writhing dough and towards the exit.

"The rest can be used for rookie initiation." Drayel said flatly as he dodged a plop of dough. "As for cleaning, I suggest there is a couple streams and lakes outside of town. The closest one is within an hour walk, so we can clean there and have a swim while we're at it."

"How does that sound, Baker-who-makes-killer-dough?"

Talia rolled her eyes at Drayel. "Fine, you are the great and powerful guard. You will is my command so lead the way guard-who-is-afraid-of-gnomes." Talia didn't have to pull that nasty little secret out but Drayel wasn't going to stop teasing her about her mistake. Granted her 'little mistake' turned out to be a lot bigger then she ever thought it would. She honestly just expected rats or other animals to eat the dough or for it to get mixed in the liquid that flowed through there. Oh well.

Drayel didn't respond to her heavily sarcastic comment, either because he wasn't able to or he didn't want to even acknowledge it. Of course the look that he shot her was enough to kill a man...maybe a couple dozen of men actually. Good thing I'm not a man She thought as she just glared right back. It took a couple minutes before either if them broke eye contact and it was probably only because Drayel wanted to get out of the sewers where they had already spent enough of the day.

Silently they left and started heading away from the sewers. For some reason she felt like they were being watched, although Drayel seemed to be popular so it was quite likely it was either the other guards or the crazy giggly girls spying on them for the crazy crone. In an attempt to distract herself and try to talk to Drayel as if nothing had happened. "So are we going to head out of town to the streams or lakes or are we going to drop that beauty off?" She asked, referring to the shield.

"Well, if I presume correctly that coward outta still be at the entrance." Drayel answered giving her a sharp look. "This is his mission after all, even if we did it for him. The high ups wouldn't do well to hear he backed out of it. In fact, if anything they'd either sack him or stick him on midnight shift."

Drayel grimaced a bit at the thought of that particular shift. It was deadly that one. Up at midnight to relieve shifts, then walk around with all the drunks, prostitutes and whatever else decided to crawl out of the sewers. He sighed warily.

"Come on then, let's go."

"You know, for all your tough looks and tough attitude, you really are a softie." Talia said as they left the sewers.

The young man was over joyed at the fact that they had made it out alive and - evident by the way that he tried to hug both of them. An act that was promptly stop with one of Drayel's notorious looks. With a mumbled thanks and a sloppy salute he was on his way leaving Talia and Drayel still stuck together and not smelling to great either.

"Okay, lets go get cleaned up, personally I don't think that this smell does anything for either of us." She said wrinkling her nose at the sewage smell that wafted from them "Then maybe on the way back we can stop for something to eat and figure out what do to next? Like how are we going to spend the evening and what we are going to do about tonight if we haven't found a way to break this enchantment." She really hoped that they did end up breaking this curse before it got too late, she would rather not have to worry about where she was going to be sleeping with...or with whom.

"You're right." Drayel said gravely as he let out a low sigh. "About our stench and... well the evening arrangements. In all honesty I hadn't even thought of it."

Drayel sighed as he glanced sheepishly at her, giving her an awkward crooked smile in an attempt to show his agreeing with her discomforts. Without a thought he gave her hand a bit of a squeeze before leading her towards the exits near town. No doubt they'd get through no problem and take a damn swim to try and get this stench off. After a while he snorted, his eyes narrowing as he gave nothing in particular a dark look.

"This... is not going to end well." Drayel stated flatly as he kept his eyes straight. His eye twitched. "We're being followed.... by my damn comrades in arms. If those idiots think hiding is standing with a pair of freaking branches in each hand, and it actually works I frown hard at our city's villians. They aren't even trying to hide their legs!"

"What?!" Talia all but shrieked before quieting her voice. "I...I don't want to be seen like this! Its embarrassing enough that I have to be around you in this predicament but I'm...I'm a lady." Talia sighed and covered her eyes. "Can't you just give them one of your killer looks and at least get them to leave us alone long enough for us to bathe......oh fiddlesticks! What do you think the chances are them knowing what we are going to do and hoping to..well you know, see something?" Talia blushed. She knew that nothing would happen but still the thought was at least embarrassing. No one had seen her bathe much less naked in a long time and here were some creepy guys, city guards no less, probably hoping to catch her or Drayel...or both of them...in some kind of compromising situation.

"Looking at them will only encourage them." Drayel drawled with an expert hum, forming a plan in his mind already as he gave her hand a squeeze. "Now hush, we're taking a quick detour."

He pulled her gently towards the darker side of town, mentally locking onto a building he knew would serve it's purpose. He glanced over at her and grinned, his eye twinkling in mischief. It was a good thing he worked the night shifts because through it he made some rather.... unpopular connections. In fact, he'd saved more then a few of their lives so in a way they were in his debt. He thanked his evil superiors for this opportunity. After all.

Not many daytime guards became true friends with the ladies in the brothel.

Talia willing followed Drayel down the streets that he seemed to know quite well. He was a guard after all, if anyone knew the city well it would be one of them. Although as time past Talia started to worry about where she was being taken, it wasn't the best part of town, or even the decent part of town for that matter.

When Drayel looked down at her with a twinkle in his eyes and a grin she could have honestly said that that face scared her more then when he was angry at someone. Where are you bringing me and what do you have planned? She questioned him in her mind, slightly grinding her teeth to keep from freaking out. She felt like drawing attention to themselves wouldn't be the best idea at this point. Although the people that were around were giving them a wide berth, most likely due to their smell.

Ducking into a building Talia breathed a sigh of relief, that is until she looked up and saw where there were. Her eyes widened in both shock and fear. No wonder Drayel had been grinning so mischievously. He had brought her into some sort of whorehouse!

"What is going on in that sick little mind of yours?" She hissed at him. "Wait...don't tell me, I don't think I want to know. Why have you brought me hear and how is being HERE supposed to help us?!" And what kind of man can waltz into a place like this, or bring a young women with him for that matter She wondered to herself, although she pretty much had given up by now trying to figure out what made Drayel tick.
