Cody walked in, his eyes showing their wariness of the inside. Were he calm as earlier he would have few issues with this, but now he imagined people coming after him...hunting him down, and being shut in with no good escape was absolutely terrifying.

The door sliding shut behind him had Cody turning around, sucking in a deep breath. He looked around their confined area, shivering again as he fought to control himself. They were only here until night...they were here all the way till nighttime. No, no no...Cody couldn't wait that long!

"Drake...don't you think..." Cody shifted, started to pace, stopped to look at Drake. "Don't you think it would be safer if we kept running...farther away somewhere?" No, Cody wasn't really searching for the most logical answer, only the one that made him feel more secure.

Cody knew some horses when scared would run back to the enclosure of their barn to feel the walls protecting them from the dangers that lurked outside. Many of those same horses would run into a burning stall, conditioned that is where to go if your life was in danger. Would running in here really help protect them from what was outside?

"We will. We just need to stay out of sight for a little while, we need to put whoever it is that's after us back on the defensive. We want them to be the one's skulking around the same place, never moving from their post, before we begin to move again." He wandered around the single roomed dwelling.

"I'm sorry if that logic doesn't make any sense to you. Experience with it is the only way to understand it." He looked back to his friend. Cody's nerves were clearly starting to get the better of him.

Drake reached into one of his many hidden pockets and pulled out a small sprig of a leafy green plant. "Here, chew on this," he walked over to Cody and placed it in his hand, "it should help calm you some. It tastes nasty, a bit like licorice, but it helps. My mother gave it to me when I was under stress as a child." Drake drifted in fond memories for a moment. "If you feel it making you sleepy though, spit it out."

Cody understood the logic to it up to a point, but then it warred against his instincts to run thus the mental struggle of what to do. I could run out of the city...they would never catch me once I was out of the city. Drake couldn't keep up with him, even if he could he doubted Drake wanted to try it.

Cody had started the pacing again as Drake spoke, he kept a few feet away from the walls and started walking about as if it was one of those old exercise pens at home.

Cody paused, accepting the little plant with a bit of curiosity. He sniffed it warily, went back to subconsciously pacing but he did put the plant in his mouth. He started chewing on it slowly. "Are you sure there out there? If they are, are you sure they'll leave if we don't come out?"

Drake stopped looking about the room and sat on the floor against a wall. "They may not be right outside these walls, but they are surely searching the open areas for us. So, if we run out now, we'll probably be trapped like rabbits in a cage. If we wait them out, however, they'll have no choice but to return to whatever places they were before and wait for word of us being sighted."

Drake thought for a minute. "Cody, can you think of anyone that would want to hunt you down and have the money to pay a bounty reward. I don't think that there's anyone after you, I'm just trying to cover our bases."

"Drake...please don't say cage." Bad enough he felt he was in one, he certainly didn't need any more images of the notion.

Cody's nerves eventually gave in to whatever he was chewing on enough that he sat down and stared at the wall, again his trembling seemed to have ceased. "My owner's wife has money...lots of it I imagine. She never liked me though, didn't want me around..." It would be silly to blame her, he was always scared of her without reason. "No one else I know has money...no one I know would consider me worth spending money on...not unless to sale me later." She use to talk about the money they could make for that...

He should tell Drake, but he wasn't too sure he wanted to admit that just yet, not to himself anyway. The idea she might really be after him caused a shudder that went through out his body. Cody refused the idea, refused to allow it take any more shape in his mind. Not her, she was just one of those fears that stalks you at night when you wish to sleep.

Cody felt time passing, crawling along. Drake was sitting rather still, Cody imagined he was thinking about something, hopefully about how they would get out of this.

Drake had been sitting on the dusty floor pondering their latest predicament for several hours now. He finally decided to give up. Plus, it was night now, and Cody would probably be wanting to move on now.

"Alright, we can leave now," he said staring at the star filled sky through the window. "What we're going to do is sneak out of Marn and follow the road through the woods to Shim." He stood and walked over to the door. "Stay close and stick to the alleys if we get separated. I'm going to use my spell to help us stay hidden."

He closed his eyes and focused on his goal. The spell took effect and he darted out into the alley.
