Player Name: Mike McAllister

Name: Ico Mieki

Age: 18

Race: Human (although he was raised by gnomes)

Height: 5’6”

Weight: 9 stone

Physical Description: Ico is young at only 18 but appears to be even younger. He is both blessed and cursed with a childlike face. He wears a brown woollen hooded jumper and baggy black trousers that are scruffy and held together more by patches and stitched up tears than by the trousers themselves. His hair is chin length, scruffy and blonde. A pair of intricate goggles (a work in progress) are permanently perched on his forehead and his shoes are tough, steel toe-capped work boots. Brilliant blue eyes peer out from his messy fringe and he always wears a ready smile.

Possessions: Ico is one of the few humans who even understands the gnomish use of technology. He always carries a large leather bag full of all kinds of tools, some of which look as if they have no purpose at all.

His other main possession is his pride and joy, his glove. A project started by his adopted father Cieo Mieki, the glove serves a dual purpose. Made of bronze and adorned with a multitude of clear glass tubes and whirring cogs it has a generator deep within its bowels that draws magical energy from the astral plain and turns it into either kinetic energy or electrical power. The kinetic energy is generally enough to manipulate objects up to the size and weight of a sack of tools or parts. Its strength is not enough to really influence a person but it could feasibly be used to deflect attacks. Due to its nature it has a tendency to stop working completely or throw things in odd directions. This is one of the main reasons it hasn’t from been mass produced.
The electrical power it creates was intended to serve a variety of purposes. If held against a piece of machinery that is powered by electric it can power the device in the event its real power source has been disabled. It can also deliver bursts of power; giving it the ability to jump start other pieces of Gnomish technology.
Its other ability is that the generator can actually be reversed to draw magic into the bowels of the glove. The most obvious use of this is that Ico can actually absorb incoming magic (i.e a fireball or something similar) and then redirect it at another target or just allow it to be sucked back into the Astral Plane. This function operates whenever a source of magic touches the glove and Ico has set the generator correctly. This function is also not without its flaws. It has a limit to the amount of energy that can be absorbed in this way and if this limit is reached all of the magic in the glove is discharged at once. The glove is also prone to processing the magic incorrectly. This can lead to spells that are re-directed coming out in a totally unexpected manner. For example; a fireball could be redirected at someone and instead of burning them to a cinder it could cause flowers to sprout all over their body, or a healing spell could cause the recipient to burst into a rash.

Powers or Strengths: Ico is both physically and mentally nimble, able to climb easily up the side of a electrical generator whilst mentally diagnosing the probably cause of it’s fault.

Weaknesses: He is very naïve; his entire life has been spent deep within the bowels of his adopted fathers workshop and so he has very little knowledge of the wider world and social niceties. This isn’t to say he’s rude, though. he is at heart a very kind and cheerful person.

History: Ico’s earliest memories are of a life on the streets of Marn, begging for coin and food. The reason for his homelessness is something that constantly eludes him and finding out the truth of it is one of the major driving forces in his current decision to leave the Mieki Worshop. During his time in the street he stumbled into the depths of this workshop. The warmth of the forges and gentle whir of machinery made him feel instinctively at home. It was there that he met Cieo. The Gnome was a kind man. Although often given to eccentricities he took Ico into his home and tried to include him in the Gnomish way of life.
Surprisingly for everyone, not least Ico himself, he actually picked up the gnomish gift for technology. Many were the times Mieki would be at home of an evening, pondering over some problem with a new invention, when Ico would come over, provide the missing piece as if it were obvious and then disappear off again. All in all it was a very fine life, and Ico couldn’t have been happier. As he got older he started to help the Gnomes in their negotiations with the humans. His race seemed to make things go a lot more smoothly.
Things cannot remain the same forever though and wanderlust can find its way into even the most pleasant of situations. A need to find his blood relatives has stirred in Ico and so he has left the warmth of Cieo’s workshop to seek out his past.
