Ardise [open for use!]

Name: Ardise.

Gender: Female.

Age: Female, so don't you dare ask. Looks about early 30s.

Race: Human.

Height: 6'0"

Weight: 190 lbs, give or take.

Physical Description: Tall and well-proportioned, but with shoulders too broad to be truly shapely. Fair of face and skin, but not pale. Finely sculpted features define her face but a clefted chin denies her the ideal of classical feminine beauty, although she is still passably attractive. Long hair, shoulder-length, but usually tied back for practicality. This hair seems undecided whether it wants to be red or blond, although the uncertain status is okay to look at.

Now for the eyes. They seem pale. A pale yellow that falls short of the radiant gold one would hope for.

Most often seen in armour, usually a sleek set of armour with a lacquered amber finish. Similar to plate although less bulky, it consists of a cuirass, vambraces & rearbraces to protect the arms, greaves and similar plates for the upper thighs, a gorget protects the throats. It is fine armour, and less bulky or heavy than full plate but it is slightly easier to get through the joints than it would be for heavier armour.

When not in armour, she always wears long sleeves and leggings; this is to cover the scars she has from battle. Her vanity about scars is nothing to do with her looks; instead she is too proud to admit another got past her defences.

Possessions:

Has unrestricted access to the Fighter's Guild armoury, so any weapons or armour she sees a need of can be easily got. Things such as caltrops or spare arrows or battle fire are easily at her disposal.

Generally, she wears her amber light plate, carries a similarly lacquered shield and a long-handled war axe. The axe-head is securely bolted onto the haft (as well as standard socketing), and the haft is reinforced with metal bands.

Strengths:

Tactical Mind - Well able to plan and strategise. Has the right mind for it and finds it enjoyable. Aside from really unnerving anyone who gets to know her, this gives her great mental endurance for long conflicts because planning does not wear on her.

Torture - The things she can do with a bottle of nail varnish are positively barbaric. Just as well really, since there is no way she would be caught dead with nail varnish for any other reason. What is worse is that she doesn't really get bored. That said, she does not have the full enthusiasm of an outright sadist. Brutality comes from being a high-ranking mercenary, but this is not her true joy in life. Also see her medicine ability and we realise how nasty the combination becomes. This skill recieved the most practice when she first became a mercenary and people tried to take advantage of her gender to avoid paying their debts.

Battlefield medicine - An experienced warrior knows how to patch up the wounded that they may begin fighting anew. An experienced torturer knows how to patch up the victim that they may suffer anew. Most of her knowledge focuses on the treatment of injuries rather than more complicated aspects such as disease. Do not expect the woman to perform surgery. At least not with the intent of actually curing anything.

Veteran mercenary - Has extensive military training, most of it as a mercenary and with genuine experience on the battlefield. Her weapons of choice are long blades and axes. Part of her vast experience includes every dirty trick one can fight with as well as a fair few more "acceptable" ones such as fients and disarms.

Weaknesses;

Proud - As hinted by her hiding her scars, Ardise is fairly proud. Admitting defeat does not come easily to her and she may waste lives in her refusal. Rarely does she underestimate her opponent, but she may not gather all the information that may help her.

Pattern - Ardise has certain ways of doing things. She goes with what works and what she knows works. This can make her predictable because she plays to her strengths. Once someone knows her strengths they have a good idea what she will do next.

By the Contract - Perhaps one of her better qualities. Ardise sees her contracts through and sticks by them even through difficult times. It is very hard for her to go back on an agreement once she has made it.

Fundamentally Selfish - Acts of charity are pretty foreign to Ardise. Helping someone else is fine but she must have her own reasons for doing so. As of yet, she is not yet farsighted enough to think of helping others as helping herself; supporting an ally is the means to a strong alliance, but she would not immediately think that aiding an ally would mean that ally would have more resources to use for her benefit.
