Name: Judge Brin Moryldar
Age: 62
Race: Human
Height: 5'9"
Weight: 170 lbs.
Physical Description: Brin Moryldar is an old man with unfriendly features. The sort of old man who imposes his will on others through fear and intimidation. His ever serious, aged features do not lend themselves well to an honest smile.
His hair was once dark but is now thinning and silvery-gray. The lack of hair on his head is offset by his long, well groomed beard. His eyes are dark brown and the bags under them, combined with his deeply wrinkled features, give his stare a bitter and uninviting coldness.
Possessions: Moryldar owns a large estate on the northwest side of the residential district with a property that extends westward past the usual city limits.
He is in possession of a large sum of Bishani. He will carry at least 100 on his person at any given time, but has several thousand to his name. Ad to this his political influence and favors he can call in, and he is a very rich man.
Powers or Strengths: Judge Moryldar's strengths are all political in nature. He has no magical or fighting abilities whatsoever, but being one of the Judges of Religion, Cultural and Ethical Enforcement means he can manipulate the battlemages and Marn City Guard.
He is extremely well versed in the religion of the people of Marn as well as the Tomes of the First Settlers. He can cite and twist the words of the Tomes to gain support from the people who follow them.
Weaknesses: Moryldar is an old man in poor physical shape and who has no special powers at all. He could not defend himself in a fight except to call on the backing of the battlemages.
History: Brin Moryldar was born a direct descendant of the First Settlers. Rich aristocracy through and through, the Moryldar family line traces its all human roots to Aronas and Uliealle Moryldar, a couple who arrived during the earliest founding days of Marn 206 years ago. A simple but honest trader, Aronas came to Marn seeking a better life when his business far in the western empire came on hard times. A pale skinned man who met Aronas at night spoke of a place joining the two empires, where a new town was being built and trade was bound to flourish. Though Aronas had his suspicions about the man, he had enough good information and such a carefully plotted business plan that he felt he had to agree.
Upon arriving in Marn the Moryldar family situated itself next to the powerful Vincas family at the top of the social ladder. Closely aligned with the suspicious man who helped to found Marn, all trade coming in and out of the place went through the Moryldars. Their wealth and power was formidable, and with the establishment of the Judges, it only made sense that one of the Moryldar should sit with them. This was Brin's grandfather, Aronas the second, already in his 70's. The seat soon was passed on to Aronas the third.
Much younger and less kind than his father, Aronas III was known for helping to turn the judges into the organization they are today. Once purely dedicated to the welfare of the citizens of Marn and the fair enactment of anti-magic legislation, the Judges added "ethical" enforcement to their list of duties, and began to take a much heavier hand with the people. At the same time, the Moryldar family retracted itself from the world of trade and social life, devoting itself to the study of the Tomes of the First Settlers (of which Aronas I was one) and the execution of justice. Family members who did not join the Battlemages or become a judge soon left Marn or were expelled from the family.
Trade in Marn came to a grinding halt. The judges were a tyrannical ruling party that had control over every aspect of political life. The democratic nature of the government was a charade. Brin, born to Aronas III (54 years after the founding of the judges) took Aronas' place when he died of a heart attack. At the time, Brin was only 27, the youngest to ever sit with the Judges. He fit right in with them and proved he had the strength, devotion and ruthlessness to continue his family's legacy. Only the great Judge Vincas stands above Brin Moryldar in reputation.
Brin's early days were spent learning the Tomes and studying the nuances of law. Aronas III raised him with constant reminders that those who are weak deserve death, and those who can take what they want deserve it. His relatively close relationship with the suspicious Belatucadrus of Shim helped to hammer those words home. It wasn't long after becoming a Judge that Brin became involved with interrogations, torture, and executions. These were all aspects of life as a Judge, and he was numb to the emotions of others from day one.
Brin's life continued privately. He took the women he wanted any way he wanted, and never developed a truly intimate relationship. The whole pursuit of such matters eventually became boring and inconsequential. His lack of empathy for others eventually became general dislike. Unable to truly relate to anyone, his emotions are his own and filled with narcissism and hate. Now in his 60's, things are unlikely to change. He has no children and cares nothing for the future of the Moryldar name. What little pleasure he derives from life now tends to involve imposing his authority on others, be it through torture or other means.
