Sebek
Posted: Wed Jul 05, 2006 2:09 am
Name: Sebek
Age: 17
Race: Human
Height: 5'9"
Weight: 150 lbs
Physical Description: A handsome young man with ruddy brown hair that flows just past his brown eyes. He is toned and slightly muscular, with a light, attractive tan.
Possessions: Sebek wears loose fitting white robes which have been slightly discolored from his long treks on the road. He carries his Holy Book, which has been compounded onto light paper and written in a style of shorthand for easy carry. This fits into one of four large pockets inside his robes. In another pocket he keeps a number of ink pens (which hold the ink for him, an invention of his mentor) and a book with blank pages in which he keeps his journal. This is kept light as well; when pages run out he returns it to the Monastery.
Powers or Strengths:
- Literate
- Strong Memory
- Strong
- Fast
- Quiet
- Attractive
- Well-Spoken
- His faith gives him peace and serenity in times of trial
- Knowledge of martial arts. At his level of study, this is mainly meditation and defensive stances, rather than offensive attacks (although he knows a few). After meditation, he can also rid himself of headaches, cramps from over-exhaustion, and colds! (woo-hoo! this, by the way, is possible in the real-world).
- Acrobatics and Balance (his training gives him an athletic edge)
- Basic medical knowledge, namely: if i put root A with plant B I can get a great medicine to heal some minor aches and pains. Includes first aid and the stitching of wounds.
- A polyphasic sleeper, he sleeps 3 hours in a day: 30 minutes every 4 hours. (this, too, is possible real-world, and in fact, there are many supporters, as well as sceptics). This works against him as well, however. If you miss a half hour nap, you tend to be EXTREMELY fatigued. This, too, is part of his training.
Weaknesses:
- knows little of the world outside of his monastery.
- ill-prepared for the harsh realities of life away from his fellows.
- does not use weapons or armor (weapons are against his Code and armor is annoying when trying to be fast and acrobatic).
- he has NO MONEY AT ALL. Not due to the code, just because his monastery has no way of making money; they're entirely self-sufficient.
- cannot own more than he can carry (again with the Code).
- polyphasic sleeping (see above)
History: Sebek was born, but he does not know his mother or father. Nobody has told him, and so he simply does not ask, although he must admit, he is curious to find them. All he really knows is the Monastery. His earliest memory is of scrubbing a floor (he remembers not which). He does not know how he arrived there, but it is apparent that the monks there took him in. Thus, the monks are his family.
They gave him the name Sebek at age 5, a year after he learned to read and write. Their large store of ancient books fascinated him, even then. Even though they were beyond his ability to comprehend, he was always looking through the bigger books. While reading such large books, he learned a great deal, and it forced his memory to expand as well. The only thing that could compete with his fascination with the tomes in the library were the feats of his masters.
Thus, once he had turned 7, the Masters allowed him to be taught in the martial arts. Even though he was little he learned quickly, and by the time he was 15 he was well-advanced. That was when they began teaching him the arts of Meditation and Focus, preparing him for his journey.
Although the feats of the Masters were still well beyond him, he was well spoken and still vigorous in his youth; so when he was 17, he set out on a quest to gather information about the civilized world. He is guided by nothing other than the word from his masters that there lies a great city to the South. This could easily be the first time in centuries that the Monastery-Village would have tried to contact Thar Shaddin from their lofty place in the Northern Mountains, far to the East.
