Erebos has jet black hair, just long enough to fall in his eyes. His face is chiseled, and usually sports some kind of stubble depending on how hard he has been partying. His eyes are a striking blue around the center and have dark blue rings near the outside. He is relatively tall with a lean body. His skin is pale, he spends most of his time inside.
Erebos has a large scar that stretches from his left hip diagonally across and stops just past his belly button. When he was a teenager he thought he was hot stuff and decided to leave Marn and his family behind. He made it to the banks of the Ofriyu Mar just past Shim when he was looted for the clothes on his back and his Bishan in his bag. They cut him across the stomach so he wouldn't bother following them, but it turns out he didn't need to.
His choice in clothes is one of his many trademarks. He only wears black and white clothing, and prefers little to no jewelry. He doesn't believe in bright colored garments and shiny rubies.
Possessions===
-Copious quantities of Bishani gained through his family
-A moderately large sized house on the northern perimeter of the residential district, furnished with a humble library and a small studio. His choice in colors extends to his furniture and taste in decor. His house is usually a bit cluttered, he prefers to spend his time sketching instead of cleaning.
-A large female wolf dog named Rhea that lives at his house, fiercely loyal to Erebos, but generally very sweet.
Powers or Strengths===
Some fighting skills
-Erebos was taught hand to hand combat skills, he is although he excelled best in his agility and moving out of the way.
Deviously cunning mind
-Erebos plays mind games; he will pit people against each other without them knowing it was him.
-Erebos was born with a thirst for knowledge, more specifically the thirst to understand why people do the things they do.
Shadow power
-The matter cannot exceed the mass of his body, the shadow may be smaller but no larger.
-Using this power requires a blood tithe, the power needs a part of him to form from. The bigger and thicker the shadow is the more blood is needed. If we wanted to create a small shadow, let's say the size of a basket ball he would need about a cup of blood. Also the more solid the form is the more blood. Obviously to create a full shadow like form he would need to be on deaths door, it would require a huge amount of blood.
-The blood used in the Tithe turns black, and the shadows form from the blood, so if he was bleeding from a chest wound the shadows would come from the blood dripping down his chest and gather where he wanted them to.
-The shadow can go from a smoke like substance to a solid and everything in between.
-Erebos has only used his power once in his life, and it was an accident. When his life was threatened he was able to manifest his fear into a shadow substance that glided down the two attackers’ throats and became a solid and choked them, but to accomplish such a feat he had to be touching the men and it took a good amount of blood, which almost lead to his death.
-Erebos is convinced that his magic makes him corrupted, that he is impure.
-Also there is a lot of mental strain that goes into keeping the shadows up, the more solid they are the more taxing it is and the more emotion he has to throw into it.
-The shadow can feel like running your hand through cold smoke, touching a cool scarf, or the hardness of alabaster depending on the solidity.
Family Name
The last name Merynir translates to Bishani, and that translates to power. Erebos aims to use that power to propel him into politics, where he can play a whole new kind of mind game.
Weaknesses====
Problem with Authority
-Erebos does not like being told what to do, which goes back to his narcissism and the fact him and his father don’t get along well. His dislike of an authority figure caused him to go through many teachers. This is yet another reason his mother opted to school him.
Large Amounts of Alcohol
-Erebos becomes quite the flirtatious playboy when he gets drunk, although he tries to keep from reaching that inebriated state of mind. It's difficult to not drink to much at social gatherings, it involves a lot of toasts and drinking to people's health. He prefers having all of his wits about him, but sometimes when he is feeling depressed he does have a habit of over doing it.
Thirst for Action
-Erebos loves a good show, and has been known to instigate things, not caring much for the people he makes angry. He tends to weasel his way around any blame or ill will his play toys have against him by devious planning and thought.
Family Name
Merynir’s are notable for their trade, and wealth. Sometimes business deals don’t always work out, a lot of toes get stepped on and a lot of mouths go hungry so they have a few enemies. So if anyone were to find out is magical capabilities he would tarnish his family name, and be disowned. He might even be killed. His sisters would be outcast as well, because their mother had magic in her veins it was passed down to her children.
Other Notable Character Traits-----
Erebos has a good mind for politics, he knows when to play his cards. He has a good eye for art and spends his free time sketching with charcoal. He is generally though of as a man of few words, and when he does speak he has a reason for doing so.
History====
Erebos was born in Marn, he was cared and loved for along with his older sisters. He was a cute baby; his large blue eyes seemed to take up most of his head. His mother loved him fiercely, telling him he was secretly her favorite. His mother had come from outside of Marn, and had been part of a trade agreement with his father. In return for precious sapphires, and the mine they came from the owner of the mine begged him to take his beautiful daughter to be Ourea’s wife as well as providing him with enough material and workers to build a house. Ourea agreed, bringing his new wife, Hemera, back to Marn.
Ourea continued gathering wealth from his trade, happily coming home when he could to his new attractive silky black haired wife. Somewhere between the few days Ourea was home his wife became pregnant. Not long after she had twin girls, and was lucky to have been blessed with large hips. Shortly after she was granted a beautiful boy as well she named Erebos.
Ourea didn’t much care for his children that was Hemera’s job. She raised them, getting them the very best of everything. She hired tutors to teach the children about Marn’s government but preferred to teach everything else to her children herself. Ourea was always out, meeting with some new important trade connection or political power. While he was gone Hemera groomed her children, teaching them chivalry, and the difference between right and wrong.
She taught her children a bit about magic, never showing them how to use it because that is forbidden in Marn, she passed down a story her mother had passed down to her about a woman who was able to grow an entire forest over night. She never gave on opinion on if magic was right or wrong, and urged the children to never talk about magic in Marn.
The year he turned sixteen his mother became ill. He watched her wither away in the space of a couple months. She became too weak to move from her bed. She spent every day in constant pain or a drug induced fog. Erebos spent every day with her, refusing to leave her side. He took care of her, his father was in and out but never bothered to stay to take care of his dying wife. When she finally passed on he was inconsolable. His father took "charge" of his children, but that only involved more tutors and servants to watch them. Which of course Erebos couldn't stand, he missed his mother, she was the only person he ever listened to.
Erebos became enraged, telling his father he never cared about his mother and it was his fault she was dead. Erebos and Ourea argued, at one point it even got physical. He told his father that he never cared about Hemera, he had heard the whispered rumors from the other powerful families. When he found out that his mother was part of a trade agreement with a miner Erebos had enough; he packed what he could and got it in his mind he was leaving. He hated his father for many things, for lying to him, and for not being there for his mother. Erebos got just outside Shim when he was attacked. That night many things happened.
People that preyed on the naïve travelers stole Erebos’ money and fine clothes. To add insult to injury one of them drew a knife across his stomach. The two looters counted on Erebos to be a spoiled teenage city boy, and to not be able to defend himself. Ere reached out, crawling in his stomach as blood soaked the grass, and took hold of each man's ankles. What they didn’t count on was the blackness that slithered down their throats as they stood over Erebos’ bleeding body, their ankles in the teenager's grip.The two men clawed at their throats, trying to rip whatever had slithered inside of them out. He could feel the attacker's throats, as if his arm was inside of them, he also felt the energy it took to keep it there as blood poured from his body and turned black on the ground. Soon the men lay dead, their eyes and mouths wide open. Erebos managed to drag himself half way back to Shim before he passed out. The shadow he had used to kill the two men required a fair amount of blood, that on top of the excess he lost put him on deaths door.
Erebos' secret died with those men that night, he never told a soul. He was terrified to tell anyone. The only person he could have told died. He wrapped the shame, hate, and secret magic up and shoved it deep inside of him far from the light of day. He would never be accepted if his father found out about his magic. He could even be killed for the abomination he is. In some ways he feels bad for killing the men, even if they were trying to steal everything he had. But the stronger feelings is that of fear, fear that someone may find out someday and fear that he can use magic.
Ourea found out Erebos had left, and he had Erebos delivered back to Marn never knowing about the two men Erebos killed. Lucky for Erebos a farmer had managed to stop the bleeding shortly after Erebos lost consciousness. After Erebos had healed enough to take a good beating his father dealt him one he would never forget. Erebos learned his lesson, though he never forgave his father.
Ourea taught Erebos the inns and outs of the trade business and where their particular branch of the Merynir family fell. Erebos learned more about the correct face to play in front of certain people as he traveled, learning how to walk in his father's footsteps. At first he was afraid of the outside world, remembering the only night he had ever left Marn but as time passed and he traveled even farther than just the outskirts of Shim he learned about the vast diversity of people outside of Marn. Secretly he knows if anything were to happen to threaten his life he could rely on his power, though he hated the thought of using it. People say that magic could corrupt a person's mind and body. But he would rather be corrupt than dead.
Though Erebos enjoyed the amount of money his father's job brought in he wanted more political power. Erebos decided to stay in Marn and seek out a political position, and his father was so ecstatic he bought Erebos a house in the Residential district of Marn. His father provides him with all the money he requires so Ere can concentrate on his political interests. He attends various social gatherings, always trying to take it easy with the alcohol, because he becomes quite flirtatious when he consumes alcohol.
