Within the deepest, most remote forests, there exists a breed of fairy called the Saltus that possess a sort of "Wild Magic," as the elders of their breed refer to it as. It consists of a variety of powers that give the Saltus a close connection to nature, one that many have seemed to have forgotten. Most Saltus stayed out the war, preferring the solitude of the woods to the chaos of the changing world outside of them.

They are a fairly peaceful race, keeping mostly to themselves, though many have a particular interest in causing mischief among the humans, often times entrancing and toying with them. A select few will breed with humans, but the act is quite taboo within their clan.

The magic they possess is unique and can include a variety of talents, including animal communication, the ability to control and grow plants, and, though rare, the ability to control the flow of water. They worship the Fae King, a being believed to possess all of these powers, and to have been on Pal Tahrenor at the very beginnings of Creation to create the beasts of the ground and air, to cause the trees, grasses, and flowers to sprout from the earth, and to make the rain, carving channels and oceans for it to gather in.

Saltus normally live together in a tightly knit clan made up of both close and distant family relations. There are currently two known clans, both located in the forests near Zhaltev. Similar to a royal human family, the clans will often inbreed with distant relatives to keep strong. Although individuals often wander, they will almost always return to their clan where they feel safe.

Most of these fae have brightly colored wings, usually in hues of blue and green. They are often small and quick on their feet and rarely reach a height greater than five and a half feet, though some males do grow to six feet.

Otherwise, they closely resemble other fairies. Their gifts are what make them unique.
