Weight - For non-humans, short and tall

Just a reminder to the vast majority of people. When deciding to play a sprite of some sort, the person decides to be 2 and a half feet tall. Guessing that the average wait of a five-foot person is 120 pounds, the player deducts that the character should weigh sixty pounds. Right?
No. That would work only if playing the typical dwarf-type character, as wide as a human but half as tall. For playing sprites, one needs to remember that in all likelihood, the character would also be twice as thin (in both thinness dimensions). In reverse, a ten-foot troll would not weigh 240 pounds; he would probably be closer to 900 pounds. Of course, this doesn't always work exactly, but using height alone does not work for weight.
Sorry to those of you whom these weighty short people and skinny tall people offend the same way it annoys me; it's just a reminder to all the rest of you.

Heh. There's a reason Sai is 250+. She doesn't like giving out her real weight. It's a... sensitive topic.
Now, sprites are by definition spritely, and probably slender and light. But different species have different weights. A halfling or gnome could weigh sixty pounds, but most systems classify dwarves as medium-sized characters on par with humans, because they are not just shorter, but also wider and heftier too--more compact. So a three foot dwarf weighs as much, if not more, than a five foot human. But an air elemental or faerie wouldn't weigh as much as others, while a dryad, being the same dimensions as a human, might weigh more or less depending on what tree they belong to.
My favorites are the girls who describe their characters as 'muscular' but weigh 100-110 lbs. Muscle weighs more than fat.
Anyway, using general dimensions to determine weight doesn't work that well either. In the end, it's up to the player to determine the weight, and the rest of us can just assume that there are a bunch of overweight faeries all over the place.

None of my girls are slender, save for little Anga. And she's only skinny because she forgot to eat more than every so often for over a year due to insanity. But before, she was my chunky little girl.
I guess Geld counts, but she had twins before, so if nothing else, her hips are rather gadunkadunk.
I just don't enjoy playing little girls. I like girls with weight to them, with an Amazonian build. Who wants to play some twig you can snap in half?! WHO?!
Ahem. I'm fine, really!

Does an air elemental have any apparent weight? Anyways, you're right; I'd probably put a 2.5-foot sprite at around ten pounds just because it's a sprite; my troll, being not much aside from muscle, is well over a thousand and growing.
That's one problem with being muscular. You don't float. In fact, it's possible to walk along the bottom of a pool. Sai the Ogress may yet prove a worthy opponent.

Weight is often an issue with character profiles. i've heard enough people go "wait a minute, that's supposed to be lanky?" here and there over the years. It's just numbers to me though. If it says he's lanky, he's lanky and the scale was rigged.
