Name: Haegrath of Zaekonspiere
Race: Troll (almost)
Age: 25
Gender: Male
Eyes: Dark blue-green
Commonly called: Haegrath, Grath (by his closest friends only)

Physical Description:

Haegrath is the son of a former chieftain of his tribe. Zaekonspiere, one of the mountains having arisen as part of a chain near Thar Shaddin as a result of the Changers' War. Near Thar Shaddin, although not near enough to cause conflict with the guardsmen, his life and genes have given him a greyish skin, mottled with green and blue in places, blending in with the forests surrounding the mountain and the marshes in the nearby lowlands.

Fully twelve feet high, he stands not nearly as high as his father (a giant even amongst the trolls), but his bulk is somewhat greater given his height and he has only come near to completing his growth; he is composed of just over twelve hundred pounds of close to pure muscle. Although not brilliant by human standards (in fact, many points of learning evade him entirely), his eyes glitter with cunning. His jutting brows and craggy build make him even more hideous than most of his brethren, but all the more imposing as a result.

Powers:

His great strength and relative cunning are his main assets; his strength, being the main benefit of trolls, is self-explanatory. His cunning does not allow him skills in mathematics, literature, magic, or areas that many deem to be "civilized." However, it manifests itself in combat, as it does in a wild animal; it manifests itself in tactics to some degree; squads of trolls, which he usually leads when they are present, are less likely to be trapped, and more likely to do the entrapping; and although most other than trolls and part-trolls find him repulsive, he has the ability to talk to beings sharing his heritage and convince them that being solitary is not the only way to do things. There was, in the past, a time when the trolls came close to having a nation... The troll also has a slightly heightened sense of smell and of vision when there is little light. Despite his general stupidity, he is apparently a throwback to the great creatures that once existed while the world was being changed; and his mind has a sheer mass which allows him to... not exactly do magic, but it warps the magic of others; not always in a positive manner, not always in a negative manner; sometimes it suppresses it, and sometimes it heightens it; but all in all, it causes change.

Drawbacks:

The main problem Haegrath has is an inability to comprehend more difficult concepts; however, the part-trolls who have begun to gather around Zaekonspiere and are often more intelligent than the full-trolls do much of the thinking for him. He is also inclined to brutishness when his talks do not go as he wishes them, and this is often messy, especially when he is not in his home. He is afraid of fire, although when enraged he will not hesitate to pass near the stuff, and is on occasion more incautious than is wise. His smell can give away his presence, and distant things tend to become slightly blurry to his eyes during the day.

History:

Xargeth was one of the strongest trolls, possibly the strongest, of the mountains in his time, since the near-kingdom had fallen. His mind was limited, but his sole companion, a she-troll named Faraenk who showed intelligence beyond that of her kin, more than made up for this; and she apparently set up the situation which Haegrath was to inherit. At her behest, Xargeth made full use of the compatibility between trolls and others; the more intelligent half-trolls began to increase in the areas surrounding the peak. Eventually, Haegrath was born to Faraenk, who trained his minds in those concepts his brain could understand, while Xargeth instructed him in Xargeth's specialty: killing. The older chief could kill with his hands, with his teeth, or with the double-headed spiked flail he carried, which he used to permanently dispatch those trolls who disagreed with his ideas (actually, Faraenk's ideas).

Xargeth met with an untimely death in a forest fire while wandering, trying to round up his children and other troll-kin. Haegrath, noticing the opening (and, unlike his father, not needing his mother's help to notice the opportunity), took over his father's position; retaining his mother as an adviser, he took up the journeys his father made. Either alone or with one or two of his half-brothers (or cousins, full trolls), he would seek out others of his race or family, seeking out specifically the strong and the smart among them. For the most part, he has been doing exactly as his father did, although the need to use the mace he took from the ashes of the forest is less than that of his father, and those who disagree with him fewer.

His ultimate goal is the resurrection of the troll nation, a complete nation rivaling any known at the height of civilization, incorporating any of the races related to his kind; and, of course, he himself would be the leader. However, the difficulty of obtaining this goal dictates his current actions, and his forays into more and more civilized areas in search of followers become more and more disturbing to the inhabitants, most of whom he leaves alone; it would be best not to bring the wrath of the people against his nation before it is ready for its ascent. And, of course, he has no doubts that the ascendancy will occur...

Possessions:

Aside from the massive double-headed iron flail, lead-filled and covered in massive spikes which protrude at strange angles, his only other possessions which he takes with him (of course, the clan has its own possessions) are the hide of a bear from which he has made a robe - teeth and claws still attached, of course - which serves more as a symbol of power and a way of appearing slightly decent in more civilized area (it is better than a loincloth or nothing) and a steel helmet with gold inlays, an acquisition of his own from one of those who he applied the mace to. Fortunately, he had enough foresight to attack the body, remove the helmet, and then kill him, so the helmet remains undamaged.
