by Thirku
Player Name: Chelsie
Name: Thirku
Age: 75
Race: Dragon
Height: 123cm / 4ft
Length: 200cm/6.6ft
Weight: 250kg / 550Ib
Physical Description: Thirku is about the size of lion, his surface is not covered in scales, but is only layered with a rough skin, like that of a shark. He has four legs, a pair of wings and a long tail. He is green in colour, and his harder, thicker spine is a deeper green. His colour gets darker as his height increase. His eyes are a golden yellow, and his pupils are shaped like ovals, and he has ridged, bone-like horns. His legs are muscular, and his wings are each the size, if not more, of his body. His wings gift him the ability to fly, but his size prevents him from carrying certain weight. The leathery insides of his bat-like wings are black in colour. A scar marks over his left eye from a accidental injury during a friendly fight with his siblings.
Possessions: Thirku doesn't carry any possessions.
Powers or Strengths: Physical strength of muscles, ability to fly. Thirku cannot breath fire like most dragons are assumed to. His breath releases warmth, which is only useful on a cold day.
Weaknesses: No scales means it is easy to break through Thirku's skin and a well-placed sword will deal a lot of damage to him. Also due to his easily breakable skin, accidental injuries can commonly occur. Although once in air he is fast, preparing to take flight can be slow, and a run up or fall is required for him to gain flight. His bat-like wings are fragile and are easily broken.
History: Thirku was born as a result of the "Changers' War", though he wasn't born when it happened, legend of the war was told down the dragon family tree. Dragons always stayed away from humanoid creatures like the elves and humans, out of fear and respect. Those who tried to have contact with humans were turned away and called "demons". Distrust followed, and dragons marked humans as a threat. However, dragons were docile creatures, and a pact was made to keep away from humans, and if contact was made, to only attack out of defence and not out of own interest.
Years past in peace, but the dragon family decrease due to lack of prey to fit their demands. Many died off, and Thirku was the last born dragon before the family fled to find new, fresher lands to hunt on. Thirku returned after maturing at 25 years, curious to learn more about the 'threat' of humans. He has stayed in the lands of Thar Shaddin, where prey for dragons have return upon the dragon leave, and new discoveries of the habits of the humanoid creatures was open to find.

Welcome to Thar Shaddin. Before I review your application, I am going to suggest that you do not make a dragon as your first character. Playing an animal of any kind is very difficult due to the limitations for interactions between other players that your character can have. That being said, it can be done. I have a dragon character, but I have never been able to keep a thread going with him because people have a lot of trouble interacting with him on his own. I end up making lots of NPCs to supplement his character and drive plots forward.

If you're serious about making your first character a dragon and staying here, that's fine. I'm just letting you know that it will probably be difficult to get started. Your character would fit in a lot better as is at Unicorn's Visions.

Onto the review:
In your history you make a lot of generalizations about "dragons" as a whole. You should be aware that dragons already have a place in our setting, even though not much has been said about them. They range greatly in size, appearance, intelligence, and behavior. There are likely dozens of different species of them and the great majority of them are found in places like Ayana and Thar's version of Greenland. I'd be wager that the majority of them are not docile. I would say you should make your "dragon family" a literal family of dragons or even a more specific species of dragon. If that was what you intended them to be, you need to make that more clear.

Can Thirku talk? If so, that should be listed in the strengths section, since it's unusual for an animal to be able to talk. Otherwise, I would like to know how you intend to play an animal that can't talk. As I said, it's not impossible, but it is very difficult to play a mute character of any kind, especially one that is going to make most people want to kill him because of his appearance alone. You should also consider how sentient he is. Is he on par with humans? Is he somewhere between an animal and a human? Or is he just an animal? You should be explaining these things in your strengths/weaknesses.

His history is very short. Right now he seems to be an idea of a character, but I want to see him fleshed out. Where were he and his family before they came to Thar Shaddin? How aware is he of the presence of humanoids in Thar Shaddin and how dangerous it is for a dragon? From the history, he seems to be at least partially sentient. What sorts of culture was he exposed to in his family? How does that make him who he is?

I know this seems like a lot. If you feel a bit overwhelmed by all that, I will point you once more to Unicorn's Visions. They're quite a welcoming community.
