Player Name: Nicole

Name: Syrinia

Age: 22

Race: Dragon shifter

Height: 5’9’’

Weight: 140lbs

Physical Description:
Human Form: A tall, muscular woman with tanned skin that bears the crimson markings of her native tribe, Syrinia’s golden eyes mirror the sunsets seen on the Balshoi Morey. Traveling down the right side of her face, a mysterious scar which seems to be the remnants of a fierce battle can be seen. Her dark brown hair, flowing like liquid silk around her shoulders and down her back, surprises the few who manage to gaze upon her exotic beauty.

Dragon Form: With bright, red scales that resemble a dancing flame and a light, purple mane traveling down the top of her neck, Syrinia’s eyes glisten like precious rubies, emitting a violet glow when light hits them at an angle. All along her back to the tip of her tail and on her legs she has black stripes, and her underbelly matches the hue of her mane.

Possessions: Traveling aimlessly through the land, Syrinia was forced to carry as little as possible. With only a large sword fastened onto her back, a dagger strapped to her calf, and two sais conveniently positioned on either sides of her waist, Syrinia always has many weapons at her disposal, but when it comes to personal items, the only thing she holds of great value to her is a Feadóg bestowed upon her by her mother when she was but a child. As for armor, she wears an exquisitely crafted vest made of stainless steel and a short, brown, leather skirt which matches her similarly fashioned, brown, leather boots.

Powers or Strengths:

Human Form:

-Sword-wielding Skills: Rejecting her dragon form because of past events, Syrinia relies mostly on her sword-wielding skills in battle. An amazon, Syrinia has trained all her life in the way of the sword, making her a formidable opponent. She has a long sword strapped onto her back which she has learned how to maneuver cleverly, allowing for several attacks from different angles. Usually these are powerful attacks, but it also depends on how hard they hit and who exactly she is striking when it comes to figuring out how much damage they cause.

-Sai-wielding Skills: Syrinia carries with her two sais which have assisted her greatly in many battles. Although not commonly used, she does use them when in a bind to either render her opponent’s weapon useless or cause minor injuries.

-Dagger Strike: Syrinia will, at times, pull out her dagger and use it to slash at an enemy’s legs or arms. She will also, sometimes, sneak up behind them, pull them into a headlock, and slit their throat. She has also been known to throw her dagger at an enemy if at a long distance range. In most circumstances, though, she usually just uses this weapon to knock a fruit out of a tree if she is hungry.

-Fire Touch: Syrinia usually prefers to stay as far away from her dragon spirit as possible, but will, at times, bring it out when the battle gets too heated or as a last resort. Her fire touch consists of an intense heat running through her veins and being transferred to whoever she lays a hand on. She is, however, unable to burn someone if one of her hands is not on the being. For example, if someone was holding onto her and she used this skill, she would be unable to harm them unless she somehow managed to place a hand on the creature. These burns usually only create a stinging sensation on the area she touches causing the being to typically recoil, and they normally only produce minor injuries.

-Half Beast: Although unable to bring out all of her dragon appendages while still remaining in human form, Syrinia is able to draw out her fangs and claws while still human. This is usually beneficial when attempting to climb a tree, bite something hard, or simply when attacking. She rarely uses this skill, though, as she prefers to avoid her dragon spirit. A lesser version of her more-powerful, dragon features, her claws and fangs as a human usually cause minor injuries while in dragon form they would usually produce longer lasting wounds.

Dragon Form:

-Fire Breath: Fire dragons carry hydrogen and methane in their respiratory systems which are both combustible and lighter than air, enabling them to produce fire when introduced to crushed platinum found in many fire dragons’ molars. Syrinia must seek out platinum and chew off small pieces in order to replenish her fire, so she is usually very cautious when breathing fire in a battle. Usually, fire breath causes major injuries and burns, but if one manages to evade it, scarring may not appear.

-Bite: Syrinia is able to use her dragon fangs to rip through flesh easily and cause minor or major injuries depending on the pressure she applies.

-Slash: Syrinia is able to use her dragon claws to slash through her enemies, usually producing minor yet painful injuries.

-Tail Whip: Long and powerful, Syrinia’s tail can be used as a whip to strike her enemies with an immense force, sometimes throwing them into the air. She can also wrap her tail around being’s legs and lift them up into the air, trip them, or toss them. Her tail is definitely an essential tool.

-Flying: As a dragon, Syrinia holds the gift of flight, enabling her to rise up into the clouds and soar through the skies. While in flight, she is able to breathe fire, shoot fireballs, or do aerial assaults, but she usually minimizes her fire breathing when in the air because of fear of her hydrogen and methane reserves diminishing, causing her to fall out of the sky.

Weaknesses:

-Past: One of Syrinia’s major weaknesses, if not her main weakness, is the trauma left by her childhood years. Whenever something triggers a painful memory of the time when her tribe was brutally slaughtered, she instantly freezes, leaving her vulnerable when in battle or in a dangerous situation.

-Water: Another one of her weaknesses is water, which renders her fire attacks useless and makes combat much more difficult.

-Underside Vulnerability: Dragons have very tough scales, but their underside is usually very sensitive and cannot sustain major injuries of any sort. If Syrinia receives a blow, strike, slash, etc. to her underside, it will more than likely render her defenseless for a while and cause major injuries, sometimes even lethal if not healed in time.

-Bitchy Attitude: Going through all that she has in the past has left Syrinia with a very untrusting and volatile nature, causing her to snap at pretty much anyone that crosses her path even if they did not speak a word to her. This can cause many beings to turn against her who would have actually been an ally or friend.

-Paranoia: Because of such a rough past, Syrinia is always cautious when around others as she feels they will always betray her. These trust issues make it hard for her to work in a group, and others usually end up going their separate ways, making her feel as though she was right all along about them.

-Blindness In One Eye: Receiving a slash to her right eye by a leopard shifter while escaping the terrible slaughter that fell upon her tribe when she was younger, Syrinia now suffers from blindness to that eye, making it harder for her to keep an eye on all of her surroundings.

-Limited Supply of Hydrogen and Methane: With her body only able to produce a certain amount of hydrogen and methane at a time, Syrinia has to be careful when using fire attacks as it may render her unable to take flight or protect herself from threats.

-Shoulder Wound: Traveling alone for most of her life, Syrinia has always had to fend for herself, and one of the times she was attacked by a group of raiders, she was stabbed in her left shoulder with a sword leaving her with a lasting injury that now makes it harder for her to wield her weapons or move her arm altogether.

-Fear of Shifters: After having witnessed her tribe being slaughtered by many of the shifters of Zhaltev, Syrinia now fears these creatures just as much as she hates them causing her to avoid the beings as much as possible. When she does have to come into contact with one, she is usually extremely reserved, more so than when interacting with others, and she tends to shy away from them the first chance she gets.

-Amazonian Belief About Males: Many, if not all, of the amazon tribes around the world believe males are useless and disposable beings that serve no other purpose than to procreate. Sharing her tribe’s ancient beliefs, Syrinia tends to show no respect for males and usually tries to limit communication with them as much as possible. This is sometimes bad for her as it causes a lot of conflicts between her and others, and it also may leave her without information that would have otherwise proved very meaningful to her.

History: Born into an amazon tribe located in the dense forest just two miles from Zhaltev, Syrinia was the result of a love affair between an amazon and a shifter. Syrinia belonged to the amazon tribe known as Thinami which could be translated to mean “strength.” The Thinami tribe was composed of powerful, female, human warriors who despised the neighboring shifters residing in the city of Zhaltev, and the shifters were not too fond of these fierce women either. Alkaia, Syrinia’s mother and a high-ranking member of the Thinami tribe, held a different opinion about the shifters of Zhaltev, though, and this is where Syrinia’s story begins.

Curious about the nearby city, Alkaia wondered if there was a way for the Thinami tribe and Zhaltev to become allies as this would surely benefit both communities greatly. This belief led her to travel into the great city, avoiding every being at first and simply remaining in the shadows as she observed her current-enemies’ actions. She found these creatures fascinating, and as time went on, she continued to travel into Zhaltev’s territory, taking notes of the shifters’ lifestyles. She wanted more than this; though, she wanted to actually communicate with them; to exchange cultures. If she could only befriend one of them, maybe that would be the key to linking both villages, but before she could even take the first step to capturing one of the strange beings’ attention, she was spotted, causing her to quickly escape into an underground cavern. The shifter was not going to give up chase that easily; though, and he followed her into the cavern, blocking her every exit. Alkaia instantly began to panic, unable to find a way out, but as seconds passed she began to notice the expression painted on the shifter’s face: his features seemed oddly relaxed and slightly amused as he stood but a few feet away from the cornered amazon. The two eyed each other suspiciously for several moments, glancing over each other as they took note of the other’s features. Finally, the shifter decided to speak, his voice deep and unlike anything she had ever heard before.

“I bid you no harm, human, I merely wish to talk to you.”

Staring into his chestnut-colored eyes, Alkaia slowly found herself being hypnotized by the sheer beauty of them. She knew there was definitely something unique about this being that made him stand out from all the other shifters, but she could not place her finger on it. Against her better judgment, though, she engaged the odd creature before her, continuing the conversation he had commenced a few seconds ago.

As time went on, Marcus and Alkaia, continued to meet in this underground cavern, retelling stories of their past and educating one another in the ways of their people. They both agreed that if their communities united, they would become a much greater force, but they were unsure of how to bring the two villages together. Finally, they came up with the solution that if a child was born of both shifter and amazon lineage, the two villages would consider becoming allies, and so begins Syrinia’s journey.

Unfortunately, once the child was conceived, Marcus began acting distant which finally led Alkaia to abandon her previous plans of uniting both communities. Instead, she focused on raising her new daughter and showing her the way of the sword. One fear always haunted her every dream; though, what if her tribe ever found out about Syrinia’s powers? The daughter of Marcus, Syrinia had inherited her father’s shifting abilities, allowing her to transform into a powerful, red dragoness, and now it was up to her mother to keep her safe from Thinami’s hatred of shifters. This was not a very difficult task, though, as Syrinia learned quickly and soon mastered many forms of combat which did not require her to shift.

One summer night, though, a few days shy of Syrinia’s sixteenth birthday, while the Thinami tribe was fast asleep in their huts, the shifters of Zhaltev decided to strike, hoping they would catch the amazons off guard. Jarred from sleep by the sounds of battle right outside her hut, Alkaia instantly shook her daughter awake and snuck her out through the back of her hut, scanning the perimeter before continuing to creep further into the shadowy forest. Once reaching the very edge of the village, the two sighed with relief, thinking they had escaped, but suddenly Syrinia cried out to her mother as two wolves and a leopard dashed towards them. Turning to face the approaching threat, Alkaia quickly spun back around to catch her daughter’s gaze once more as she sped through her words.

“Go! I’ll distract them!” She commanded sternly, but Syrinia refused to listen, tears now forming in her eyes.

“No! I am not leaving you!” She cried, pulling her sword out and preparing for battle, but her mother quickly pushed her forward.

“You must go now, daughter!” She almost shouted, an angry edge to her words, but her tone soon shifted to one of sorrow as she handed her daughter a Feadóg, her eyes locking with Syrinia’s as she spoke her next words, “When you need me, simply play our song and I will be there, comforting you always, my dear daughter.” Tears instantly began trailing down Syrinia’s cheeks as she recalled the times when her mother would play their song. This instrument was very dear to her.

Without another word, Alkaia turned back towards the three creatures racing towards her and pulled out her sword, releasing a shrill battle cry and lunging towards them. Syrinia watched as her mother swung fiercely at the shifters, but quickly hit the ground as one of the massive, black wolves tackled her, the other wolf and leopard running right past the two and straight towards Syrinia. Fear filled Syrinia as she spun around to escape into the dark forest before her, weaving through the trees as fast as she could to escape the two ravenous beasts that stalked her. She did not know where to go; she had never set foot outside of her village before, but she trusted her instincts to lead her to safe grounds.

Suddenly, she felt something slam up against her back with an immense force as she collapsed onto the soft grass beneath her. She could feel huge paws pinning her down and heavy breathing against her neck. She soon found herself rolled over onto her back and she could have sworn she saw a smirk make its way onto the leopard’s maw. She squirmed beneath him, trying to break free as she heard his wolf partner approaching in the distance. She had to escape now or who knew what would happen next.

Without another thought, she allowed her instinct to take over as she gripped onto the leopard’s neck, an intense heat flowing throughout her body and emitting from her fingertips into the beast’s flesh, slowly burning his throat and traveling down towards his chest. A loud whimper was heard as the leopard instantly jumped off the young amazon, slashing her face before falling down onto the forest floor and giving Syrinia a chance to escape.

As the wolf ran past the leopard, he stopped for a moment to glance at his injured friend before releasing an enraged snarl and continuing to pursue his prey. Syrinia dashed through the forest as fast as she could, but her human legs failed her as the wolf began to catch up quite rapidly. She had to shift, even though she had always been taught it was wrong to be a shifter, but what other choice did she have at the moment?

Finally giving in to her instincts, Syrinia unclipped the strap on her chest armor and skirt, and allowed the beast within her to take control, transforming into a beautiful, red dragoness, her scales shining brightly as the moonlight reflected off them making them shimmer like a thousand rubies. Witnessing this, the wolf’s eyes widened with amazement and shock, denying the sight before him. Amazons were not shifters; they were humans. This made absolutely no sense to him, and he instantly came to a complete stop as he watched the luminous, red gem disappear into the night sky, never to return to these lands.

For the following years, Syrinia remained a lone traveler with no specific destination in mind. She made it a point to travel the land and see everything there was to see. She would never return to her village or Zhaltev as the memories of these villages scarred her deeply, and she rejected her dragon form, denying it was even a part of her. She did not want this; she wanted to be human like her sisters… like her mother. With all these thoughts constantly racing through her head, Syrinia continued onward, allowing fate to lead her wherever it chose.

Hello and welcome to Thar!

I've read over your character and I'm going to have to ask that you go back and spend a little more time on strengths and weaknesses. I'd like for them to be more descriptive to let me know just what she is capable of doing. I'd also like some more weaknesses to balance the character out. Dragons are really powerful creatures and she's a dragon, a skilled warrior and a magic user all rolled into one.

I'd like for the strengths and weaknesses to look like this:

Skill name/magic power: Looks like x (if magic how is it performed), does y amount of damage (use either a person or real object to give an example everyone can understand) and can be preformed z often. Also include any limitations to the power/skill.

A good example taken from another app:
Wind Slicer: Selena can also call forth wind with her magic and make a slicing effect. She normally would use this to cut weeds from the ground of her parent’s farm. The slicer would be fine enough to cut weeds, but if used on a being it would only cause minor lacerations.

Sorry it took me longer than expected to get back to you.

I'm going to have that you either shave some weapons or abilities from her or add more weaknesses to balance her out.

I also want to note that though fighting between characters is allowed, physical conflicts rarely transpire here. I want to make sure that you are okay with this and have plans to expand on other aspects of your character's life.

I would just like to start off by saying that I am not mainly interested in the fighting aspect of the rpg; I actually have a few ideas for Syrinia's story as it unfolds with other characters. My girlfriend and I have been searching for a nice, fun, forum-based rpg to join so that we can play out a story we have in mind while also interacting with others. I am not one to simply begin fighting with everyone even though my character seems to play that part lol I just wanted to make that clear because it seems you believe that is mainly what I am interested in :)

What attracted me mostly to this rpg is the great plot it has and all the detail put into it. My girlfriend and I have read the history and we truly like it, I also tried applying some of the information posted there into my character's background so that she would fit in better with the gameplay.

Anyways, that said, I would like to know if you have any ideas for weaknesses because my girlfriend and I really cannot think of anymore. We are working on one application at a time (her character's name is Annel, she registered when I did), but we are having a really hard time coming up with anymore weaknesses. I tried my best to put in all of the attacks that would come with a human warrior and a dragon, I think they only seem like a lot because of each explanation for each physical attack a dragon has, but I would still like to know what exactly I can do because I really do not want to change my character as I have rped with this character in many other rpgs in the past, but I also want to ensure you are all okay with her.

Again, thank you for your time! ^^

I'm popping in to offer some ideas in regards to weaknesses:

Allergies, intolerances, previous wounds (I had some strong whiplash the past year and I still get muscles tensing up along with great pain up my neck and along my shoulder -- as the doctor told me, muscles do not heal back 100%, so imagine what a sword wound might do), weak joints, fears (a fear of open spaces would be particularly crippling outside of the city in thar shaddin), religious/cultural beliefs, other mental weaknesses (shortsightedness, stubbornness, debilitating addictions etc), problems communicating, diseases, weak immune system, physical deformities, bad eyesight, bad hearing, bad distance perception, bad sense of smell, poor reflexes, other physical conditions (skin conditions, acid reflux, asthma, ulcers, migraines, seizures, vertigo etc), so on and so forth.

Additionally you can put limit on the dragon's strengths. Things like she can only use fire at a certain temperature, her teeth are not in good condition, the methane/hydrogen thing (you should add that in to the weaknesses, as a limited supply is a good weakness), she has little stamina, or even something so crazy as leather causing her mouth and throat to swell up, which would drastically impact who she'd be able to bite. Or perhaps she has a mental block in regards to her dragon form that causes her physical pain or puts her into some kinda of mental breakdown whenever she tries to shift into it. Being distracted, woozy, not being able to focus would be definitely cut into your ability to fight.

The reason why Niabi asked about the fighting is because that makes up the majority of your app. I know it isn't really spelled out on the app itself, but we do encourage people to include personality-impacting strengths and weaknesses within those sections too, so that's where the misunderstanding came in I think (that you'd only listed things pertaining to fighting abilities). So that said, in addition to things that impacts her ability to fight you can also put in stuff regarding her personality to sorta round the character out. And sometimes those things interact; if she tends to freeze up when she's surprised she won't be able to fight as effective and so on.

Thank you so much for all of the examples, that really helped me out a lot. I edited the application again, this time I removed some of the strengths and added some weaknesses, I have ten strengths and ten weaknesses altogether so hopefully that balances out the character enough.

Oh man, I feel so bad that you haven't received a reply yet. I thought Kat was looking over your character and I'm sure she thought I was doing it. I'm reading over it now though.

I like the changes. I think he injuries will provide a nice contrast to her warrior lifestyle and really make her think before using them so as not to cause her more pain. I'm assuming the injuries also hinder her in dragon form, which would make flying or even fighting more dangerous.

I'm going to approve it.

You can post in Characters Available for Plots or a plot discussion or ask around in chat for plots. I also have a character looking for a plot if you'd like.

If you have any questions feel free to send me a PM or catch me in chat. Good luck and welcome to Thar.
