Name: Vane Ulmar, AKA "Sin"
Age: 25
Race: Human
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 180 lbs
Appearance:
As described above, Vane has average height and weight for his age. He is not skinny, nor fat, having the normal figure. He "possesses" a small nose and normally colored lips, so, basically, he doesn't differ from many other people. The only thing that makes him stand out are his tricky blue eyes and his hair which he often spikes up using wax. His mouth area is decorated by a small black beard. Vane shaves it quit often but it tends to grow back unusually quickly. Having to use two swords in battle his arm, shoulder and back muscles are stronger that any other ones.
Possessions:
Two longswords - two simple longswords with black hilts and a sharp blades, which are about 3 feet long. One sword is in a sheath strapped to Vane's left hip and another is carried on his back, the hilt facing left. Most of the time Vane just uses the sword by his hip, as the one at his back is hard to draw quickly, since Vane has to fully extend his hand while still holding the hilt to let the blade exit the scabbard.
Dagger - a dagger with a one-edged, slightly curved blade with again a black hilt and a ring instead of a pommel for quick maneuvering. It's leather sheath is strapped to Vane's lower back. Vane may be good with his swords, but he fights best with his dagger.
Small knives - simply two small knives carried in leather sheathes on Vane's lower legs. Though rarely used, and when they are they are almost always thrown, they prove themselves deadly weapons.
Armor - leather clothing with small metal plates attached to wherever possible to reduce weight, and also be well protected.
Strengths and Powers:
Physical prowess - Vane can be really fast in battle and is very hard to tire out. But of course if he is fighting with both his swords his dexterity is weakened, however his spirit is not.
Stealth skills - raised in harsh conditions Vane is a very good climber and acrobat, known to be able to creep around his enemies in the shadows. Can find a graspable surface on most flat walls. If no direct path is seen, Vane tends to try other ways to go around the obstacle.
Accuracy - Vane has great eyesight. Not only is he able to spot enemies from afar, he is good at judging distance and makes use of that ability with small knives he throws. This ability also lets Vane dodge deadly blows more easily.
Unpredictability - Vane is unpredictable in battle. He always has a trick up his sleeve and can do crazy things just to win a fight. He is also known to be a backstabber, changing sides whenever he feels like it. Vane likes to trick and surprise enemies by attempting to yield but then rush into battle again, hiding behind obstacles and then jumping out from behind his enemies,
Weaknesses:
Love for a drink - whenever alcohol is involved, Vane can't really say no. He loves a good drink, and that sometimes got him in sticky situations.
Lack of headwear - Vane never wears helmets, making it easier to knock him down with a blow to the head.
Carelessness - Vane always looks down on people, always underestimating his opponents, which is why he isn't very good against nasty surprises, especially in battle.
Health problems - an accident during teenage not only left Vane with memory loss, but numerous migraines, which he quite often gets. It is known to happen during drastic moments, like in the heat of battle. To soften the pain Vane usually tries alcohol, which leaves him even more unprotected.
Selfishness - Vane doesn't trust anybody, even if he works with them. He is always expecting everybody he meets to try and kill him, and in every bargain his first question is 'What's it in for me?'
Personality:
Vane's personality before his memory loss differs before the one afterwards. Before the accidents he was just a normal kid, raised by a peaceful family, but then after he lost everything, including his memories of the past, he only remembered two things: thirst for revenge and combat skills. Honor doesn't mean much to Vane, if he pursues a goal, he will take the first chance he gets to gain edge.
History:
Vane was born at a farm outside of Thar Shaddin, in a family of 3, counting him. His mother worked the farm, his father traveled selling goods and buying resources, his sister stayed at home and helped his mother around. At the age of 6, when Vane's father, Byrn Ulmar, got him a book about knights and adventures, he knew what he wanted to do. Up until he was 8 he read every adventure book he could get his hands on, and on his 9th birth day he was given a wooden sword as a present. Using his books as manuals, and making targets out of hay, Vane practiced hard, hoping to become a legendary knight someday. Of course, as with most people, this stayed just a dream. When Vane was 11 a group of bandits raided the farm. They killed his father, raped and killed his mother, and took Vane and his sister. The siblings were thrown into a wagon, locked in there and carried off to an abandoned fort. There the children's days were full of bitterness. Vane was made into a cupbearer and butler, and his sister, who was only a few years older than him was used only for the bandits' pleasure.
After spending a year in the fort, 12 year old Vane resisted. He tried fighting but was beaten up and knocked down to the floor. However, the bandits' leader became interested in the child's spirit. He promised to teach Vane to fight, and if at the end of the training, Vane beat the bandit leader in combat, he would let them go. Vane took the chance, and so began the training. He trained for two years and suddenly one morning the chief came up to him and said it was time. The boy tried hard but he was no match for the skills of his 'master'. The chief laughed at the boy trying hard to free himself and his sister but failing. Soon after the bandit leader knocked the boy to the ground yet another time announced to the whole fort that he was going to kill Vane and his sister if the boy was knocked to the ground one more time, as they were useless to the bandits now. But Vane was blind with anger, he only wanted to win this duel and he foolishly rushed into battle, only to be knocked down again. The chief sent bandits to kill his sister and raised his sword to kill Vane himself. The boy was stunned in fear but as the chief prepared to deal a finishing blow to Vane, he came to his senses. He rolled onto his stomach just before the sword hit the place where the boys head was moments ago, sprung to his feet, and ran away from the chief. He ran onto the staircase leading to the wall of the fort, then onto the wall itself. The fort was basically a bridge above a river and was 26 feet above the gushing water, supported by pillars which rose from the river and 'held' the fort by its thick stone floor. When Vane was on the wall of the fort he was surrounded, the bandit chief on his left, the other bandits on his right. Having nothing else to do, he jumped into the river.
Vane survived the fall but after he was carried away by the rushing water, while trying to swim to shore one wave was strong enough to knock his backwards into the water and hit his head on a stone. Luckily, before the river carried the boy away to a waterfall a man noticed him floating head up in the river. He fished the kid out and tended to his wound. When Vane woke up he did not remember anything about his past. The man who saved Vane's life turned out to be a killer for hire, who, after a few years earning coin that way, became obsessed with killing and turned into a madman. When the 'savior' realized that Vane had amnesia his sick and crazy mind decided to trick the boy into thinking he was a man training to avenge his father by killing the people who plotted against him and did not share his beliefs. In other words, everyone else. The old man trained Vane for years, from time to time allowing him to let it all out on a few bandits, to the point where Vane forgot about the fake revenge so much because he liked fighting and killing. When Vane came to him when he was on his death bed, the madman gave Vane his two swords, and said: "These blades have tasted the blood of the guilty for over 15 years. Use them to end my misery, and continue feeding them the blood of the tainted." So Vane did so, took the old man's dagger and knives and took off to see world.
Years later, at the age of 20, in his travels he came across the bandit fort in which he was held captive for four years. He entered the courtyard of the fort, in which he met all the remaining bandits, except the chief. They bandits jeered as he did and pulled out their swords, muttering things like "He looks rich enough" and "I can already feel his money in my hands". Then the mob of 4 attempted to rob Vane, but he easily repelled the attackers, two of them ended up dead, one fled by jumping of the wall of the fort just like Vane did five years ago, and one was unconcious.
Then he entered the fort to see the bandit chief, old and frail, kneeling on the floor, mumbling: "Forgive me, for I have sinned..." For the past years the chief has grown into a nut, who thought a spirit of vengeance was going to get him for his sins. It got so bad, that the other bandits plotted to end the old man's life. But, they were murdered just before they wanted to kill him. The chief turned around and saw Vane, carrying two swords, both covered in blood, standing before him. He fell on his back, screaming, as he recognized Vane and saw the kid he trained to be a killer. The bandit leader begged Vane: "Please! Forgive my sins! Please, don't kill me, forgive me my sins!" Vane asked the bandit what the hell he was talking about, and the old man told Vane how he raised him and taught him, but did not mention his sister. Then, after the chief's story, he asked again: "Please... Forgive my sins..." To that, Vane smirked, pointed his sword at the chief's head, and said in a horrifying voice: "I am your sin." Then, Vane simply sheathed his swords, pulled the old man on his feet, took out his dagger, and the only things that could be heard at the fort were blood-chilling screams of the bandit leader, as his eyes along with a pool of blood poured on the fort's stone floor. Vane took the chief's armor and went off and after that, he tossed away his name, only telling his victims that he was simply Sin. Vane he knew he was Vane and that his family name was Ulmar but he gave them little meaning and just uses his nickname, hoping to strike fear into his enemies.
Since that day Vane traveled until he came across Thar Shaddin, and decided to try his skills as a mercenary, earning coin and doing what he does best, all the while seeing more of this famed land.
