by Orsath Felas
Name: Orsath Felas
Age: 28
Race: Human
Height: 5'9
Weight: 145lbs
Eye Color: Green
Hair Color: Brown

Physical Description: Orsath is a man of average height (roughly 5'9), possessing a lean frame and shorter mid length brown hair. His untrimmed, scruffy beard is perhaps his most notable feature, as it is often left wild and untamed. His skin is fair and unblemished, complimented by the light pale hue that plays across his features. Upon first glance, he seems as though he's spent most of his life living within the confines of a village or city, likely in a position where less physical labor was required. He has very little obvious muscle, and could be accused of needing to eat an extra meal or two, but otherwise seems to be in decent shape for his size.

Clothing is generally limited to travel clothes and light leathers, as Orsath's father was not capable of training him in the use of sophisticated armors. Generally, he can be found wearing a tanned tunic with light blue shoulder pieces, basic leather gauntlets and tanned cotton pants with brown leather boots. All of this is accompanied by his trusty travel bag where he keeps his necessary survival gear, it matches the rest of his outfit. His choice in clothing is decidedly plain and draws little attention, he blends into a crowd quite easily.

Possessions:

The Cube (see powers or strengths for more details): Little is known of the cube that Orsath carries with him, save that it is a relatively small trinket with some interesting utility. Its make and origin are both unknown, and it appears dull as crudely shaped stone. It has no distinguishing marks or patterns carved into it, and doesn't seem to hold much worth at face value. The creator (or creators) likely designed the object as such to deter theft, as common thieves are often only interested in objects that are outwardly beautiful or outstanding.

The cube is also bound to Orsath, and he to it, which generally means only he is capable of using its power. If he were to pass from the world, the cube would go with him, losing its grand archive of stored information and limitless potential. Conversely, if the cube were to be destroyed or tampered with negatively, the effect would be largely unknown, for nothing of the sort has ever happened.

Single Shot Pistol: A primitive black powder weapon, good for one shot before reloading. Orsath's pistol is in good shape, as he regularly cleans and maintains it after each conflict. It has no signature marks or special qualities, it is a plain firearm.

Scimitar: A medium sized, curved blade capable of delivering several attacks in quick succession, all dependent on the skill of the user, naturally. Wearing little to no armor, Orsath has a preference for weapons that do not compromise his mobility in battle. So, a trusty scimitar was chosen to be his lifeguard and companion!

Supply Bag: A small travelers bag that carries some of the necessities required to survive in a wilderness situation, such as dried food and water, flint, bandages, and alcohol (more for wound sterilization).

Personal Tome: Acting as both a journal and log book, Orsath often finds the need to document some of the more interesting events in his life, leaving behind a legacy of sorts.

Powers or Strengths:

Basic Swordsmanship: Trained by his late father in sword skill, Orsath is about on par with an apprentice in their second year, able to block, parry, and counter attack (though with some difficulty) against most normal human opponents. Despite having an acceptable level of skill with his weapon, he never really had much time to practice with it, as his other hobbies consumed much of his free time. Supernatural creatures and other phenomena may have an advantage against a man with such limited training.

Gunner: From a young age, he has been trained (by his father) in firing, reloading, and maintaining most basic human firearms. Not every opponent is made for melee combat, sometimes a battle requires ranged finesse, though noisy, to resolve.

Scry Desire: Using the bond between himself and the cube allows Orsath access to its archive of information. It's able to locate anything he desires, whether it's physical, incorporeal or otherwise. This ability is unique in that it doesn't require long channeling or unnecessary rituals to achieve an accurate projection, it simply works based on Orsath's true desires. For example, if he were to have the suspicion of being stalked by an assassin, he could use the cube to locate his assailant. It would not only locate this person, but give precise details such as how far away they are, whether they're injured, dead, or alive, and how long until they reach his position. The cube may also give some limited clairvoyance, but prolonged use of this particular aspect is draining, and can normally only be handled in small doses. In short, the cube is a device that allows the character to find what he's looking for much easier then normal, and provides limited locational knowledge regarding the characters interest. Certain magical wards can prevent the cube from getting an accurate lock on of certain individuals/places however, and as such, it doesn't remain an entirely fail safe tool.

Tinkerer: Ever curious as to the inner workings of technological devices/machinery, Orsath often attempts to understand and improve technology that comes into his possession. Disassembling and reassembling devices is quite entertaining, but finding an appropriate substitute for a part that increases efficiency is absolutely euphoric. Having this particular strength means that not only can he learn how technology works through dismantling and repairing it, he also learns how to replicate said tech over reasonable periods of time (the more complex the technology the more time it takes).

Weaknesses and Flaws:

Insatiably Curious: This flaw kills a lot more than cats, as many humanoids have fallen to their own lust toward the unknown, the mysterious, and the forbidden. When presented with what he feels is incomplete information, Orsath has a bad habit of being too inquisitive, taking great effort to uncover taboo knowledge or explore areas that are normally out of bounds. There have been instances where his traveling companions would have to talk him out of such situations. He would eventually comply after painful amounts of time explaining why the risk of death wasn't worth it. Still, without someone to curb his curiosity when it peaks, Orsath finds himself making really stupid choices more often then not.

Dependent on Cube: Due to the close relationship between himself and his artifact, Orsath has developed an almost unhealthy dependance on it, unable to make even the simplest decisions without its guidance. Having the wisdom of the cube at his disposal often means that he is granted far more clarity then he would have naturally, and parting him from it could create serious issues for the character. If he has an urgent matter to deal with, he normally turns to his beloved trinket for options, but without it, many would see him slowly crumble as he must now invent his own possibilities.

Clueless about Women: Surely most women like inventions? A lecture on the complex nature of firearm intricacies and a break down of how complex the 'simple' mill can be? Perhaps they are interested in scientific theory and... ya. That basically sums up Orsath's knowledge regarding women, he's so bad at relating to them, simply because of his own upbringing. He never really had much time to go out and flirt or be excessively social with the opposite sex. He spends most of his time on theory and invention, with the occasional venture out to collect parts. He's a true medieval nerd, and while straight, wouldn't know how to impress a women if it clapped him on the side of the head. He's truly clueless, and would need serious help to even keep a women's attention.

History:

Born in the Village of Shim on the outskirts of Marn, Orsath was fortunate enough to be brought into an upper class family. His father was a retired Marnian guard, and his mother made a good amount of money on the side cultivating medicinal herbs, several of which were constantly on order or bought out by Marn's apothecaries and academies of medicine.

Financially they had enough money to get by each year, and would often bring in profits that were great enough to spoil themselves with certain privileges other households did not receive. They had glass windows, ate using proper utensils, and even had some strange antiques and trinkets to their name. Though they did have considerable wealth compared to most of the families in Shim, they were not drowning in limitless currency.

Growing up wasn't difficult given the conditions Orsath was presented with, his father would attempt to drill old guard exercises into him, hoping that his son would follow in his footsteps and serve the people of Marn. Even as a toddler, barely able to walk and form words, he sat on the knee of his father listening to old tales of the glorious guard and righteous battle mages. Tales of their strength and valor fascinated him, a curiosity that slowly ebbed as he matured and acquired other interests. His mother had less of an influence on his growth as a child, for she took deadly ill when he was about four, the same age he had received his first and only toy, a stone cube.

Before she succumbed to her disease, Orsath's mother passed down a relic from her earlier years, very cryptically and without much explanation. After all, what would a four year old understand about a complex magical artifact? She knew the time was right, her son would need a guide for the future. She had already begun to feel the illness take hold as she passed on the cube, her mind dizzied and her body tightened, causing her to hit the floor almost immediately. Were it not for the alarmed cries of the young boy, Orsath's mother would've passed away (as his father wouldn't of known), as only the constant medical care of the visiting healers kept her healthy enough to live. Though it took time and resources, one of the cities healers had concocted a special antidote that helped his mother stave off the infection, effectively stranding her in a comatose state. Without regular dosages of this medicine she would die, and his families funds were limited after their initial investment in what they thought was a cure. A child at the time, Orsath couldn't comprehend what was happening, his little mind unable to fathom the seriousness of his mothers condition, or why his father had suddenly become so detached from him. It made the child feel unwanted and rather melancholy, lacking a real upbringing from this point.

Months following his mothers collapse, his father became more and more reclusive, spending less time with the boy and more at the bedside of his mother, weeping and praying to whatever gods existed to save her. In his desperation, Orsath's father squandered much of their families wealth on fake miracle cures and several thorough medical examinations. Every visit was the same, with what limited natural knowledge the doctors of the age possessed, they could only inform the man that his wife had a very serious, unique illness. There were no records of it, and due to this lack of documented evidence, a cure had not been in production since his original commission for one. Even that 'cure' proved only to slow the illness, not cure it entirely. They always left with apologies, and he always remained disappointed.

Much to his surprise, there came a day where Orsath's father had completely changed his demeanor. Five years of grieving had passed when he had finally snapped out of his long depression and remembered he had a child. Suddenly, he took great interest in his son's interests and hobbies, often times offering to help him improve or gather the necessary materials required for his strange experiments. It had been so long since he had payed mind to anything but his sick wife that he was utterly shocked to find that the boy had dismantled a good portion of his own room. Clocks, chairs, candles, lanterns, anything that could be dismantled had been, and they were neatly laid out and organized on the sheets of his bed. Five years, five years of self-pity and loathing, he had snapped out of it only to find out that his son had grown up without him, their interactions had been so limited, but he had been too busy brooding to notice.

From that point on Orsath and his father became nearly inseparable, they did everything together from tinkering to training to philosophizing. It almost made up for five years of separation, but like all good things, wouldn't last forever. Leaving nothing but a note and a will, the boy had lost his father again.

The note touched on how his father felt like a failure for not noticing his mother's condition ahead of time, how he was well aware of her hardheadedness and tendency to not want people to worry about her. It detailed what of their possessions were to be left to their son, and what payments would be left to the new resident that he had payed in advance for medieval services rendered. The note never detailed where or what his father had left to do, it is likely that he was unable to deal with his own personal grief, and had gone into a self-imposed exile, unable to live under the same roof as the women he loved and failed to save.

During the brief period his father spent with him, he had passed on most of the knowledge he had acquired in his years, everything that was required to prepare Orsath for adulthood. His mother had given him the cube as a final gift, which was still perfecting a bond between the two, and his father had given him the martial skills necessary to defend himself should the need arise.

With the abandonment of his only 'living' parent, Orsath was forced into a bit of an awkward lifestyle. He was capable of normal interaction, left his home every so often for food and supplies, and formed a bit of a bond with the nurse who presided over his sick mother (whom he did not know very well, but still cared for). He became somewhat obsessed with technology, and would spend hours on end disassembling and reassembling things (sometimes the same piece several times over), determined to learn every detail and find suitable replacements to fill in for other, more outdated parts or mechanisms. Much of his success could be credited to the cube, which would help him locate said parts or clue him in as to other methods of technological genius. It had become his guide, as predicted, and made decision making much simpler from a logical standpoint.

Though his life was uneventful and rather boring since abandonment, Orsath did leave his house on the odd occasion, curious as to what the outside world held. A stroll in the woods while contemplating new schematics or designs wasn't out of bounds for him, and it was often the cause of many a great idea. The peace and tranquility the forest near Shim provided almost sent the now older man into another dimension of pure, inventive clarity. Not even the most silent night in his own workshop spawned some of the mad ideas he theorized on his walks. Despite the occasional stroll for basic needs or fresh air, Orsath has still lived a relatively quiet life up until his twenty-eighth year. As a learning project, he has decided to leave his place of residence more, determined to cement his place among the technological greats society has to offer. Perhaps he could also find an individual capable of curing his sick mother, only time would tell.
