Rayne-Liltu[WIP]

by Rayne
Name: Rayne/ Lilitu Baroness of Daemons
Age: 16/???
Race: Human/Daemon
Physical Description: Rayne stands about 5’3 and is of average build for a girl her age. She has fair alabaster skin, soft features, large bright green eyes that are framed by her short hair which is a dark red with streaks of jet black. When Rayne is under the control of Lilitu, her physical appearance does not change aside from her hair and eyes turn completely black. Rayne wears a long black hooded robe with cuts to let her legs freely move. She also wears pants made out of thick dark leather, along with a pair of finely armored boots gilded with a set of silver griffons, Armored gauntlets also gilded with griffons and splint mail shirt, all mostly hidden underneath her robe. All of the armor pieces have short chains on them to act as a sort of straight jacket for when Liltu starts to take over Rayne.

Personality: Rayne is essentially two different people, though both inhabit the same body so to speak. Rayne herself is a very quiet soft-spoken person, who tends to shy away from crowds and prefers to be alone. Even though she hails from a warrior clan, and is daughter to a war chief, Rayne abhors fighting and will try her best to avoid it, though she can hold her own if push comes to shove.

Though Rayne doesn’t seem like it she is usually a very happy bubbly person, spending time outside watching animals, drawing, reading etc, but always with a small smile on her face. Rayne also loves to laugh, though she doesn’t get to very often, and loves a good story or joke.

Lilitu is a daemon and has no real care aside from trying to stay alive. Since she shares a body with Rayne she also attempts to keep her alive by whatever means possible, and if that means killing a village of innocents so be it. Aside from self-perseverance Lilitu is a snide and egotistical being, often poking fun at Rayne or praising daemons and how there so much better than people of this plane.

Rayne/Lilitu Relationship- Rayne to an extent is possessed by Lilitu, though it is different than your normal possession, where as the daemon has full control, Rayne is different acting more of a host to a daemon parasite that is surviving in her. Rayne has control of her body for most of the time, keeping Lilitu at bay with a combination of wards in her armor and sheer willpower, though on occasion, either by choice or not, Lilitu can take control allowing Rayne to do things she normally couldn’t do. The two entities can communicate either vocally, internally, or a combination of both.
Possessions:

Armor of Thangol- Rayne is the daughter of Thane Thangol, and wears the armor of her house. Aside from being well crafted there are special runes and devices placed in it to help control her “problem”. The armor is gilded with griffons, the house crest, and is blessed by priest to ward off anymore otherworldly beings and to weaken Lilitu to a more tolerable level.

Daggers- Rayne’s daggers are made of steel with silver inlays and can be used for either hand to hand combat or for throwing; she carries about 6 of them on her belt.

Teddy- Rayne carries a teddy bear with her named teddy. Teddy has been through a lot and has been sewn back together more times than anyone can remember so he is a patchwork of stiches and somewhat off colored parts. Teddy has been Rayne’s companion since she was three, and acts as her security blanket, and is always held close during possession causing him to be damaged and sewn back together time and time again. Teddy is the one thing that Rayne loves above anything else and will protect him at nearly all cost.

Bow- An old bow that her father had, aside from the age and family heritance, nothing is special about this particular bow.

Weaknesses:
Possession- Rayne is possessed by Lilitu a daemon baroness, and will occasionally be taken over by her. When Lilitu is not in charge she will still talk to Rayne trying to give her “advice” or just berate her, this is not seen most of the time and it just looks like Rayne is talking to herself, though sometimes Lilitu will actually talk through Rayne causing some to think that she has Dissociative Identity Disorder. Another side effect is when Rayne is close to death, Lilitu will take over causing Rayne to lose all control until she can regain her strength to re-assume control, this can take anywhere from an hour to several days depending on how severe the injuries sustained were.

Agoraphobia- Rayne is from a small city that was frequently snowbound so she has had little contact with crowds of more than thirty people. The only time she saw anything that would count as a crowd was when a rival city’s army attacked her city, so she associates all large crowds with dangerous armed men who are trying to kill her.

Shy- Rayne is a shy being, she never had much contact with people for most of her life and also tries to hide her possession as much as possible, so it is very hard for her to talk to people.

Weakness to fire- Rayne has spent a copious amount of time in the tundra and other artic places, and has a tolerance for cold, but is extremely weak to fire and heat. To further increase her weakness Lilitu has a particular weakness to fire.

Physically Weak- Unless controlled by Lilitu, Rayne is physically weak relying on precise strikes and finesse to best her opponets, this can become a problem especially when fighting large opponents. Outside of combat this means that she cannot carry a large loads or move heavy objects.

Strengths:
Stealth- Rayne is naturally quiet, allowing her to be quite sneaky. Rayne can easily sneak without being detected in any wooded area or hardly noticed in a city, even more so at night. She also uses this to get the jump on foes often taking them out one by one quietly before anyone noticed.

Close quarters combatant- Being the daughter of a war chief thane Rayne was taught to fight with her hands and knives from an early age. When in combat by herself she can take on unarmed opponents with little difficulties, though it gets tougher for her to fight more than three armed opponents.

Self-sufficient- Rayne has fended for herself for the past five years of her life. If left to her own means she can easily take care of herself, though she won’t turn down help if offered.

Daemonic Gifts- Whenever Lilitu is in control of Rayne, she gains several “gifts” at the cost of body control, and sanity. While under Lilitu’s influence she’s faster and stronger, and also able to do things she, or any other human for that matter, would have severe difficulty doing such as breaking down doors moving heavy objects or jumping off walls to climb a building. The downside to this is that Lilitu is controlling Rayne’s consciousness, so the intended result may not be reached and someone may die in the process.

History:

Lilitu wasn’t born more of happened in a place where time has no meaning, and where the laws of physics hold no real meaning. Daemons like Lilitu made their existence in this place, occasionally traversing the border between their world and that of ours, to disrupt some poor hapless person’s life. Lilitu was an exceptionally powerful daemon, having fought and slayed more in the mortal world than most of her Daemon kin. Though she was powerful, she still had enemies, in particular a daemon named Sangrond who was vying for her position as a Daemon Lord. Lilitu had dealt with him before, and since he couldn’t really kill he was an annoyance and was waved off. Sangrond was a tenacious daemon, and also quite clever, he knew that he couldn’t kill her but he could trap her in the mortal world all he needed was a plan.

Rayne was born daughter to Thane Thangol, war chief of Usrilk, a small city, between Eyropa and Tian Xia, close to the artic sea. Her life was a simple one, with a loving mother and father, who ruled over a small region that didn’t have too many foes, life was peaceful. One day Rayne’s father received a message when she was six, from a rival thane declaring war on Thane Thangol. This was surprising, for there hadn’t been a war for nearly twenty years and there was nothing really to provoke this hostile action. Never the less, Thane Thangol prepared his city for battle, and warriors both seasoned and raw were relishing the chance to fight and bring honor to their city and thane.

As the battle raged outside, Rayne and her mother stayed in the cities keep as fire and death rained from above. After several hours of Rayne’s father burst into the room along with a handful of warriors, all of them bloody and battle warn, “A daemon! They have a daemon leading there forces!” he exclaimed as he tore through a bookshelf looking for a way to defeat this otherworldly foe. After several seconds he stopped and pulled out an old dusty book that looked like it hadn’t been touched in ages. Rayne’s mother looked at him with a worried look, “Its do dangerous, you mustn’t do it remember what happened last time we attempted to try this.” Rayne was confused daemons, summoning, and this had happened before? Rayne was confused and scared at the current situation so she stayed out of sight for the duration of the ceremony, hidden behind a large bookcase.

Lilitu Streched out on her throne, it had been some time sence Sangrond had bothered her, he must be up to something she thought. Suddenly a white vortex opened before her showing an image of an older looking man, who shows signs of recent battle, and also of a woman with the look of fear on her face in some sort of stone building, Wonderful, new playthings I was getting bored here anyhow Lilitu thought as she let the humans bring her into the real world. The first thing she felt was cold, an icy chill that swept through her whole body causing her to flare with daemonic fire ”Why did you bring me to this plane mortal? She boomed staring down the man who she assumed summoned her. The man stammered as he looked upon the powerful being that stood before him [/b]”I…I..I am T-T-T-Thane Thangol, and I s-s-s-summoned you to help combat the rival daemon who..”[/b] Lilitu cut the man off midsentence shouting ”what is his name mortal? If you wish to live you will tell me his name!” and picked the so called thane up by his neck holding him up against the wall trying to get the information out of him.

Rayne had a death grip on teddy as she witnessed the scene that was going on in front of her. From her vantage point behind the bookcase all she could see was this horrific creature pinning her father against the wall. Rayne stayed behind the bookcase cowering in fear while her father told the daemon everything he knew. As her father mentioned the name “Sangrond” the daemon let go causing him to fall to the floor with a crash and gasping for air. ”Let him come” the daemon said with an early soothing voice, ”I have fought him countless times, there is nothing I haven’t seen”. As if on cue the door exploded in a fiery blast, knocking over the bookshelf and rending Rayne unconscious.

LIlitu felt his presents before the door even exploded I’d recognize that stench anywhere as she turned around she saw ten humans behind Sangrond. ”Up to your old tricks I see Sangrond?” She said walking over to him, her hands blazing with magical energy, ”I don’t think you will ever learn.” Lilitu let loose a blast of energy from her hands hitting Sagrond square in the chest, the deflections vaporizing half of the humans who came in with him. As Sangrond reeled from the blow he looked Lilitu in the eyes ”Oh I learn after every time we fight, and this time I can beat you.” He said snidely, lashing back with an attack of his own. The room was torn apart by the magical energy that was being flung around, out of the original ten that came in with Sangrond only 2 remained, and they were on the edge of life. ”You’re a fool for fighting me Sangrond, when we get back to the netherworld I will rake you across the coals for a millennia, and that will just be the start” Lilitu said hurtling a ball of lightning across the room, missing Sangrond and obliterating a wall. ”You will never see the netherworld again!” with that he let out a torrential wave of magic hitting Lilitu full on, causing her to dematerialize and fade into the netherworld. ”You fool! She cried out with laughter ”You just killed yourself, and for what? I will still go back and then your torment shall begin!”. Sangrond laughed, a low guttural laugh, causing what would be considered blood to trickle out of the corner of his mouth, ”And that is where you are wrong, Baroness, I shall go back but you shall stay here.” As soon as he said that, a man dressed in furs carrying a large staff walked into the room, an aura of magic swirled about him, ”This is Ysjan, he’s this tribes shaman, he will make sure you don’t get back home anytime soon, pity I guess I will rule until you get back, if you get back.” A daemonic laughter filled the hall as Sangrond faded from existence, Lilitu screamed as the shaman began working his magic trapping a small amount of her essence into something from this world. As Lilitu felt her essence being melted away by Ysjan’s magic, before the last of her disappeared she found what she was looking for, a small presents of life barely noticeable, but it was a chance to survive and get revenge.

Rayne awoke to the sound of fire crackling around her, suddenly Rayne heard the daemons voice ”At last your awake, I’ve been trying to wake you up for the past hour.” Rayne scrambled back into a corner, afraid for her life from the Daemon she saw before. ”Who are you, why are you here? She cried out, searching what was left of the room for the creature, all she heard was laughing, Stop laughing at me! she cried again, This is wonderful, possessing a girl who has no idea who or what I am, I guess introductions are in order, the voice said ”I am Lilitu Baroness of Daemons, and I have taken up residence so to speak, inside of you until I can return to my plane of exsistance, and that my dear may be awhile.”[/b] Rayne started to panic, the daemon inside of her? This cannot be happening, and what of her father and mother were they alive? ”there dead, Rayne is it? Their dead Rayne, along with most of this city’s population, it seems that were the only ones left.. The daemon could read her thoughts, as well as her memories; Rayne was terrified what could happen to her. As Rayne whimpered to herself as two enemy knights came toward her, ”the boss is gonna want to see this” one of the knights said, ”Yeah, he likes em young, and this bein that Thane daughter we might get a cut, if you know what I mean” the other one said with a laugh. ”let me handle this Rayne, for your safety and mine” As Lilitu said that Rayne’s vision began to fade, and she felt like snakes were winding their way throughout her body.

When she awoke, she was covered in blood and viscera standing over the corpse of the first knight, the second ones head about five feet away. ”What did you make me do!” Rayne shrieked as she looked around at the destruction around her
I saved you, that’s what I did Rayne. Trust me, you will thank me later[/i]. Rayne didn’t know what to think, had the daemon saved her or was it protecting itself? Either way the two knights were dead, and Rayne was safe for the time being.

After the Attack Rayne lived in the smoldering ruins of her former city, scraping by with what little food she could find and occasionally hunting the random animal that wondered into the ruins. By the time her uncle had found her, she looked more of a savage girl who was born in the wilderness than one who was the daughter of a thane, her clothes were ripped and torn, bloodstains covered her small face, and even teddy looked like he had seen better days. Once her uncle saw her he rushed over and took her up in his arms, and looked into her eyes, he noticed something was different, where they used to sparkle, they seemed dull and emotionless, and he could swear someone other than Rayne was watching him through those eyes. Having seen things that no mortal man should live though, Rayne uncle called forward his personal priest asking him if he could take a look at Rayne. As the priest approached her, she started to panic, trying to escape her uncle’s grasp before the priest could get close enough to touch her. As the priest drew near, Rayne’s Uncle noticed that Rayne’s hair had started to turn completely black, along with her eyes, ”what wrong Rayne? What’s happening to you? “ he said staring at her. Rayne didn’t answer all she did was whimper and repeat the words “no not now, not again”, suddenly she was quiet, and an evil smile crept across her face, ”Nothing’s wrong, uncle, were perfectly fine” the voice that spoke was not Rayne’s but that of Lilitu. Rayne’s Uncle let go of Rayne drawing his sword pointing it his possessed niece, before he could do anything the priest had cast a spell restraining the girl and crippling the daemon.

Rayne’s Uncle and the priest dicided it would do the region good if they took Rayne back to their Thanedom, so they could take care of her and try to keep the daemon under control. Though Rayne was possessed and suffered daemonic takeover’s once in a while, she eventually regained her normal lively hood. Several years past, and on Rayne’s fourteenth birthday her uncle gave her the bow of her father. The bow was worn and charred from the horrific events that had happened at Usrilk those many years ago. Aside from the bow Rayne’s uncle Had several boxes with him, ”It is almost time for you to go and make a name for yourself Rayne” he said as he opened the first box, inside the box was a set of armor, intricately crafted with griffons and silver inlays. As Rayne approached the box she could feel Lilitu cringe away, as if the presents of the armor made her weak or it hurt her, ”The priest has figured out a way to keep your….problem… at bay, and also protect you from any other daemons.”. Rayne smiled and thanked her Uncle for the armor and immediately put it on, enjoying the feeling of Lilitu retreating away from where the armor was on her skin. ”Your father used to have a set like this, I got the smiths to craft it as close as they could to the original, you’re the last of your house Rayne, honor your ancestors when you wear this armor.

Two months after her birthday she left the care of her uncle, heading out to the artic waste to make a name for herself. During this time she traveled the wilderness slaying monsters and helping out when she could, all while trying to keep her secret safe. Though she tried to keep her secret safe, it was a hard chore indeed, and on several occasions she couldn’t keep Lilitu at bay, causing her to kill several villages in southern regions of Tian Xia, causing several rumors to spread about a daemon that looks like a young girl, and causing her to not to be able to safely travel within those areas anymore.

Two years have passed since Rayne left her Uncle’s care, having spent most of it traveling around most of Tian Xia and Eastern Eyropa she has decided to travel west to see if she can do any good out there and maybe get rid of the daemon that haunts her, though Lilitu says that she’s there to stay. Having heard stories about a small town named Shim where travelers occasionally meet she decided to make her way towards there, hoping that she can do some good in that town, as long as Lilitu doesn’t mess things up.

I’m thinking about doing the final tweaks on this soon, just wondering if I can get a quick read through to see if i need to make any changes, I’m pretty sure i can do more with the strengths and weaknesses, though I’m not sure what.

So I've read over your character and I spent some time talking it over with Frug last night. We may have gotten a bit distracted but a good deal of that time was spent on this idea of demons and souls and how we have no set definition for each. Well, we have said that demon could be a name that people give to creatures from the Astral Plane, but that still doesn't really narrow it down.

I wanted to quote a statement another mod of ours gave some time ago but I was unable to find it. So I'm going to do my best at trying to word it in my own way.

The main problem I see with this character, besides the fact that her weaknesses don't balance out her strengths, is that we have no set definition of what a soul is or what a demon is. Many of these characters seem to draw from some outside source (such as a religion) and in doing so they try to make said religion canon when we not included such things into Thar. The problem with this is that we don't want to start saying that one such idea or belief is correct and others are wrong. We like that we have left such things open so that each person and each character can decide for themselves what is right for them.

Now I'm not saying that you can't play a character that calls herself a demon or that comes from another plane. I just wanted to make it clear that we haven't confirmed that people have souls, what a soul is, or what happens to them when a person dies. We want to leave that open. We have a few approved characters that do call themselves demons but the people who play them try to distance them from any real world religious belief that does not exist on Pal Tahrenor.

I also want to note that silver is not a good metal to make weapons out of unless you plan to fight shifters wearing no protective armor. Silver is a very soft metal, much like gold, and isn't really good for anything beyond jewelry (or hurting a shifter).

ok fixed the weaknesses and strengths, and also i think i tackled the daemon/soul thing. i got rid of the soul things, wasn’t important anyway, also tried to better explain the possession, best example i can think of at the moment is like a mixed drink, two things one glass.

I'm placing this and associated characters in the inactive pile.
