Ethnic: Gaul-Celt-Germanic-Scythian
Tribe: Lundinium
Occupation: Warrior/Hunter
Hair Colour: Brown/Blond
Hair Length: Shoulder length
Eye Colour: Blue/Green
Skin Tone: Light/ Medium
Skin Colour: Pale-tanned
Height: 5’9
Weight: 179 lbs
Body Type: Muscular/Athletic
Physical Description:
He’s a barbarian. A typical barbarian. Strong built, hard lived, battle scars and hard earned skills that come with it. He is tall, genetically being of Gallic descent and due to a high protein rich diet of meat from hunting. Although he was often told there’s some Scythian blood in his family chain somewhere. In the summer, his skin tans slightly, yet in the winter, it pales, yet it is also thick skin, being use to the cold weather. His hair lengthens down to below his shoulder, as well as a thin beard that lies under his nose and on his chin. At times, before battle, he’d use lime to spike his hair up, slightly to make him seem for fierce to the enemy. His face is covered in blue paint markings kind of like a tattoo, a Celtic tradition and his torso is painted in black markings, as a Germanic tradition.
Attire:
Normally, in the summer he walks around wearing leather greaves, leather boots and no shirt, even when going into combat at times. Sometimes, a deer hide sleeved vest. On long travels, he’d wear a shirt made from deer hide, and a trench coat-style jacket, made from cow hide along with leather vambrace on his right arm and in some cases he’d fight in such attire.
Weapons and Equipment:
Often, he would carry a large round buckler shield, that held a painted symbol of the Helvetian tribe a majority of his ancestors where from. His sword that he carries was brought down from father to first born son and so-on, although often some would have a sword, forged to a way they would prefer in his tribe. Often, there would be jewellery inlayed into the hilt of the sword, rubies, sapphires, or emeralds. He’d also carry a war axe at his side, just in case it is needed. Germania in the old was known to bring an axe to a sword fight.
Strength/ Power:
His strength includes his fighting ability with almost any bladed/sharp weapon he picks up, whether it be a sword, an axe, a falx, or spear. During a battle against Vikings, He was seen with an axe in one hand and a sword in the other, using the sword to parry attacks and the axe to hack at the enemy.
He grew up a hunter as well as a fighter, and hunting is always a great way for a forester to train with a bow and arrow. It also helps to training one to sneak up and ambush his/her opponent (A deer). Along with hunting, he learned how to track, and how to get around without a map. Proving useful on some occasions.
Weakness:
Like any humans, anywhere in the world, he is prone to become ill with disease and sickness. Although, growing up a life as a barbarian, his immune system is a lot more built than civilized folk, although it is still possible for someone such as Balaudiui to get sick.
Heat is one from nature. Living in Lundinium, he grew use to the cooler, less humid weather. He would tire easy in hot desert-sahara type or mix Pacific/Atlantic tropical weather, causing him to fatigue easier and succumb to heat stroke easier and wouldn’t ever survive a trek across the what once was Parthia desert.
His self, being under confident with himself, since the Battle for Lundinium. His under confidence and the death of his wife puts him sometimes in positions to almost allow his life to be ended. Often, he’d have nightmares of future and past.
Stubbornness is included where he'd often going head on in this and sticking to them no matter how "utterly futile" it is, which lead to traveling across what he knows as Eyropa to find a new home for his kin, although it lead to the massacre of everyone that travelled with him.
Personality:
Since the attack on Tigurinia, he was a broken man. A great leader, according to Arios Degiras, Lundinium Chieftain who congratulated Balaudiui after the Battle of Lundinium against the Vikings. Balaudiui is at times hard on himself as well. He wasn’t with Seiros or Calaros, his two brothers during the attack, and never got a chance to protect his sisters from the Vikings’ terror they laid on the girls mind before murdering them. Since then, he’s grudged against Vikings, and since the Battle for Tigurinia, he’s grudged against Aedui Gauls. Often than not would get drunk over the incidences and this would often lead to tavern brawls.
In terms of fighting, wars and battles, he’s a good strategist, and the Battle for Lundinium against the Vikings proved it, with the ambush at the South gate. The North Gate, though was considered a tragedy and a small problem caught early.
Since the death of his wife, he hadn’t any other interest in marriage or such as that. Soon believing that he’s the cause for a lot of deaths that circled around him and cursed to those he loved dearly.
In general, though, he is a kind and gentle man, when not on the battlefield and not drunk. He’s an honest, truthful, and hard working individual, loyal to the Gallo-Celtica people and those of allies to the Gallo-Celts. Never boisterous about the battles he had won, or the journey he had trekked to Marn.
History:
“Before my grandfather’s grandfather was born, this was our land. These where good places. Our gods live here. The trees and rivers. They watch over us. We are happy. We hunt, we love, we have families, homes, good life. But sometimes we must fight! The Romans disturbed the god! They burn the forests! They take what is ours! Wives, children, land! They told us how they would help us and protect us. They put us to sleep with gold promises. When we wake, all we wake, all we had was gone, stolen! Take our sons and turn them into little Romans! Ha! So we fight to keep what is ours! What must stay ours! There can be no peace! No peace with Romans! men of stone and iron and lies! There can be only war!”
- 625 BCE, Doiros Segestus- History battle, Gauls, Germans, Britons, Dacians, Scythians, vs. Egyptian and Greek armies lead by Changers and several Roman Cohort that got caught up in the battle and massacred.
Long ago, the barbaric tribes of Europe formed an alliance against the changers. Knowing very well, King Farahu would send an army north, yet not of what kind of army it was, tribes came together, shields, swords, axes, spears, pikes, falx, war clubs, anything they could use was a weapon that could kill. Lead by a Gaul named Doiros Segestus who was born and raised a noble in the city of Segesta, near the Julii city of Arretium. Julii was originally suppose to attack Segesta, until the Changers and the wars that followed. Rome was occupied with Egypt, Macedon and the Cities of Greece. The Senate soon put their focus north when Germania, Britannia and Gaul formed alliances with each other. An act suggested by Doiros of Gaul, Marisis Cariosus of Britannia and Deriis Gorim of Germania. Word soon crossed over and Dacia and Scythian provinces who joined such alliance. Each sent armies and diplomats to the city of Segesta where Rome began to wonder if there’ll be a barbarian invasion. Rome sent an army to deal with the massive barbarian army, while the ‘barbarians’ where waiting for the Greeks and Egyptians under command of a Changer to make landfall.
It was often or not that wars and conquests to control Europe or to save what land they know was common in Europe during the old days. Gaul, Germania, Britannia, Dacia, Spain, Scythia, Parthia and Thrace where often warring against their neighbouring factions. Gaul would war against the Britons, Germans, and Spaniards. Germania would have the inclusive enemy of Dacia. Spain raged war against Carthage. Dacia would fight against Scythia, Germania and Brutii. Thrace and Parthia would rage war against each other, in the East Desert. Thrace warred against Macedon and Greece, similar to the constant Persian war against Greece. Scythia and Sarmatia would war also war against Dacia and Germania.
Julii Rome was at war against the Gauls, Brutii conquests for the East, in Macedon and Greece. All the while, Greek City-states had often raged war against each other, aside from every fourth year with the Olympics, in the city of Olympia. Often Sparta and Athena would rage war with each other. Macedonia and Greek City-States would also often war against Persians. Spartan Greeks where said to be travelling across to attack the Julii city of Arretium. The Barbarians found out from the Dacians and word spread across and a fear that Greece might take over Europe and eliminate the Germanics, Gauls, Dacians and Britons. The Barbarians considered it to defending there homes. The gathering of different Celtic tribes prompted a fear in Rome that the Barbarians where going to launch and attack towards Rome, starting at the Julii city of Arretium and moving down to Rome, itself. Egypt was also at somewhat of a war against Rome, especially after a short romance between Cleopatra and Julius Caesar of the House of Julii, the two armies sailed around to Arretium at the sametime and rallied the same day. So, there was an invasion near Segesta that could've been taken and held by Gauls (Doiros Segestus). The barbarians, though where only expecting Spartan Hoplites to land, when Egyptians also landed.
Rome and their superstition and mistrust got caught up in a huge battle. After a brutal massacre, only one Roman cohort made it out alive, lead by Captain Gaius Amadeus. Captain Doiros Segestus and Deriis Gorim were both killed in the battle but the barbarians where victorious for the time being. Marisis Cariosus took the army north, to the British Isles. He sent diplomats out to the leaders of Gaul, Germania, Dacia, Scythia, Spain, Aedui, Arverni, all the way up to Sarmatia to leave their homes and settle in and around Briton. Tribes set up hidden villages, around the British Channel, from Lundinium to Alesia around 620 BEC.
For the Spanish Bull Warriors, it was took late. They where already conquered and the Diplomat sent to Spain was ambushed and his head sent back to Lundinium. but for the rest, they managed to arrive to the territory of Gallo-Celtica.
For many the journey was hard, running into dwarves and gnomes. Many of whom where in such Celtic mythology until then. Often battles would rage to get through to Gallo-Celtica. Several where massacred in turn of their actions. Germanic tribes would often send armies to help with the Dacia convoys since Germania would match Dwarf weapons, as both where use to fighting with axes than swords. Though, the Germans would often have an upper advantage with a phalanx of spear war bands with axe men mixed with the ranks.. The Scythian and Sarmatia would use their cavalry to defend their caravans.
Years after the settling of the Gallo-Celtica nation, a war broke out between Mainland Gallo-celtica and Briton Gallo-Celtica and has been ongoing ever since. The feud was over rules and regulations and gods and gold or Driarii. Briton Gallo-Celtica renamed themselves after Doiros Segestus and called themselves Segestus-Celtica, while mainland called themselves after the city, Alesia and call themselves “Alesia-Celtica”.
Sarmatia Noble, Larisote and Gallic Chieftain Artius Semeriso of Segestus-Celtica went over to the mainland Alesia-Celtica to reason and use diplomatic measures to bring peace to the Gallo-Celtica. They had slowly been forced into alliances, two years after the diplomatic trial by Artius and Larisote, due to Saxony and Viking invasion from Northern Europe. Some says the Saxons and Vikings left due to dwarf invasion of their own homeland. Gallo-Celtica was victorious during the invasions, leaving small Saxon armies to merge and joined Gallo-Celtic ranks. Meanwhile the Vikings left, travelling across the Atlantic Ocean. Colonizing in 1262 PW, (Around the same time period that they started in life) and called it Vinland at the time.
Vikings often been kicked out of Vinland by Natives (Beothuk) that occupied that land. So in this case, it's plausible that they where kicked out of the Scandinavian provinces by Gnomes and Dwarves which could be a plausible reason as to why they started traveling the seas, from the Invasions of Celtic Britons to the Mediterranean ocean, all the way to "Vinland". (Vinland is practically the tip of Newfoundland and Labrador).
Balaudiui Makauriius was born in 149, outside of Lundinium, to a noble, named Serigus Makauriius and Ferisia Makauriius. Serigus, a direct descendant of Doiros Segestus. He had siblings too. Brothers named, Seiros, Calaros and sisters, Aeria, Cerynthia and Salania.
Due to years of mixed genetics, he was of all descent- Gaul, German, Briton, Scythian, Dacian and Saxon. When he was young, he was taught how to shoot a bow and arrow, and how to use a sword, axe and shield. He had brothers and sisters to help on the farms. All of them grew up, the sons of Serigus Makauriius learned how to fight and hunt. Balaudiui trained with his brother, Seiros Makauriius, often where they’d rival each other. Often fist brawling each other, when they had a chance. With the wooden swords given to them to train by their father, they’d often, at random start fighting in the middle of the farm field, never each other winning. Seiros would often find a curved stick, to try and pull Balaudiui’s shield down to get him with the sword. Often never worked. Bruises and cuts would come out of such play but Serigus would say that it’s good practice to try and out beat a rival. Even if the rival was of family.
During the summers (Samon), he'd be on the farm, working and sweating, and in the winter (Anagantios), he'd be hunting with his father and brothers. During the solstice of the seasons, when there were celebration, he'd dance with the people around a fire, singing in Gallic tongues.
The women would learn to gather and would stay behind while the men went hunting. The women waited for their to be husbands to return, and would prepare a feast to celebrate such a tremendous hunt or a battle.
Other times, Balaudiui would talk to Arisima, a girl from Alesia who happens to be a full blood Gaul. He’d often sneak off with her when he was 14, where they’d share thoughts and a kiss or two on the lips. Fifteen, 134, he was in his first battle against the Vikings. They landed near Lundinium, assaulting, from the north and south walls. Balaudiui was defending the south, his brothers the north where his sisters where. The battle itself was victorious although, to Balaudiui, it was a defeat. His brothers and sisters where all killed in the Viking raid, in the North.
Balaudiui had to lead 320 men south, to attack the Viking Raiders, while Serios lead 280 men North. Calaros lead 500 to flank the North raiders with the other city Captains. Lundinium was a large settlement. (Lundinium/London). Darggiusos, Captain of the Lundinium was with Serios and Calaros, leaving Balaudiui in charge of the South, due to the noble blood that was brought down from his father.
Serios and Calaros was killed in the battle. Serios was mutilated by an axe-wielding Viking, and Calaros was hit by an arrow, when charging into battle. Balaudiui survived, using a pinching tactic at the forest in South Lundinium. The Vikings charged towards an open gate, deliberately kept opened by Balaudiui to lure the Vikings into an ambush. Archers from the wall appeared and shot down as many Vikings as they could before the Vikings got to the gate and as soon as the Vikings got to the gate, Balaudiui charged. A group of soldiers charged out from the gate, while two groups came out of the forests, both left and right of the Viking wings. The Vikings from the south was massacred, almost instantly. The Viking raiders up north held up the siege until Balaudiui’s men reinforced them.
“In times of peace, sons bury their fathers, in times of war, fathers bury there sons.”
This was especially true for Serigus who buried two of his sons and three daughters the day after. Enraged, Balaudiui was disowned by his father for not being with Serios Makauriius during the Viking Raid. Saying Balaudiui should’ve died by Serios’ side. He moved out of Lundinium to a small village called Tigurinia with Arisima. He wedded her when he was 19, in Tigurinia. He lived there for three years, until a raid from Gallo-Celtic rebels.
Gallo-Celtic Rebels- Aedui Gauls who where ‘missing’ during the Gallo-Celtic civil war. Before the alliance of Gallo-Celtica, Aedui Gauls where at war with Arverni Gauls. The Arverni Gauls believed in the God-King. Aedui Gauls demised this ‘God-King” and rebelled against the Arverni Gauls. Now, Aedui Gauls are said to roam and pillage Gallo-Celtic villages, like Tigurinia. Yet, Tigurinia was truly the last of the Aedui Gauls.
One winter's day, 133, Balaudiui was on a hunt, with 80 hunters. A group of people who belonged to Tigurinia’s archer war band. When they arrived back at Tigurinia, they found the Aedui Gauls had massacred the entire village of Tigurinia. Balaudiui also believes they had also murdered his wife. Enraged, the war band attacked the Aedui Gauls, killing them all. The battle lasted a while and ended with the Gallo-Celts being the victorious, but at a price, only twenty Gallo-Celt warriors alive and all the Aedui Gaul dead. The battle was lead, not by any one man. It was lead on the rage and vengeance that filled the mens eyes as they gazed upon the horror, Aedui Gauls placed upon them.
The remainder of the Tigurinian villagers left their old home and arrived at Lundinium two days later, seeking a place to live after there own, Tigurinia was burnt to the ground by the Aedui Gauls. There, Balaudiui never went to look for his father, although they met up one day in a tavern. Balaudiui and Serigus had a drink of ale and made up for the past.
Although despite the make up of Balaudiui and his father, he decided to set out and travel the known world of Eyropa as it was now called with several war bands. 2000 people, 1610 being warriors- Axe men, swords men, spear men, pike men, falx men, archers etc. It was reasoned because they where tired of constant raids from Vikings and new Saxony raiders, that resided in the North part of Briton, known as Anglo-Saxons. All had travelled with Balaudiui including Serigus which Balaudiui had known nothing about until Serigus died of illness a year before the present day.
His mission during this travel or crusade, rather was to see what was beyond the Gallo-Celtica borders. Something no Gaul, German, Briton, Dacian or Scythian has seen for a long, long time. This search was to hopefully find a new home for the Gallo-Celtic people.
His journey found his way to the town of Shim and city of Marn. The Shim villagers where curious to these people, as the Gallo-Celts where to the City of Marn. The City of Marn was more civilized and advanced as apposed to Lundinium or Alesia. Although, there was alarms going off about the two thousand armed people marching into Shim. Soldiers and guards where called up to sort this out, surrounding the two thousand people.
Instantly, the civilians- women and children where pulled back out of the way of what might have been a bloody fight, while the 1610, formed a wall of circled shields, around them, as the Marn and Shim soldiers surrounded them. They where warned off as such and where sent North, to go back to Lundinium and Alesia. On there way, they were almost all killed by rebels. Balaudiui was injured severely and was left to die before he was picked up by a trade merchant to Shim.
