Posted: Mon Oct 31, 2011 7:57 am
Name: Christof Von Haustanzer
Age: 69
Race: Human, with a little elf mixed in
Physical Description: Christof Von Haustanzer hails from central Eyropa, though his features are worn and weather beaten from his many travels, he has somewhat pale skin and dark auburn hair that is starting to grey in some places, most notably on his temples. Christof has a neatly trimmed beard, same color as his hair and also starting to grey. Christopf stands about 5'10 and weighs about 192 pounds and is somewhat muscular. His most notable feature is his eyes, they are a color akin to steel, and some people say that his gaze can pierce even the toughest warrior causing him to waver in fear. His left eye is slightly lighter in color due to an injury suffered while working for the inquisition, and he is half blind in it.
Christof's attire consist of calf high boots, made out of a dull black leather, loosefitting pants and shirt to which he wears a vest made out of the same leather as the boots. Aside from this he has a dark green ,about the color of a pine tree, overcoat and a black cavalier style hat with a white plume in it. Christof also carries two sets of gloves on him at all times, one silken pair and one sturdy leather pair, the leather pair is of dark leather and is the most common glove he wears, each bearing the Inquisitorial seal (an eagle superimposed over a hammer) . The silken gloves are of the finest silk in Corezo, and are white in color, he only wears theise gloves when he is either reading or not out adventuring. Christof also wears an eye patch to cover his blind eye, also bearing the inquisitorial seal.
Possessions:
Pistol- Christof's pistol is a Simple ball and cap single action revolver in design, though nothing else about it is simple. The pistol has a walnut grip with silver inlays making an effect that is pleasing to the eye. The barrel and revolving cylinder are made of a high quality brass, etched with a sene of angels fighting daemons.
Rapier- Christof also has a rapier with a solid brass handle with a blade about four feet in length. The blade is etched with a list of names who Chrisof has slain, granted the list is long so the names are small and only visible upon close examination of the blade, or else it looks just like a patterned blade.
Tomes of Knowlage- Christof Von Haustanzer carries with him an assortment of Tomes, almost a small library some would say, filled with various subjects on knowledge ranging from simple phrases in foreign languages, to how to fix a steam powered engine. Though Christof has a lot of information, he does not have books to cover everything, so he is always looking for more books to add to his collection back in his home.
Science tools- Christof considers himself a scientist, so as part of his travels he often studies new things, takes notes, and tinkers with things. Christof has put together a small kit of tools to help him with his research, consisting of a multiple magnification magnifying glass that he can affix to his head with a leather strap, several small tools including one for engraving metal, and also a journal in which he writes all of his research down in. This kit can also be used for other means, such as picking locks or similar functions.
House: Christof has a family mansion/house located in the town of Helsbergh a village a few hours south of Pedom Morim. The mansion has been in the family for generations and is rather old and large being built upon a fortune made trading with foreign countries. The most notable feature of the house is the library, a vast collection of books that has been compiled over the years, mostly by Christof himself, who is somewhat of a bibliophile, over his many travels.
Powers or Strengths:
Intelligence- Christoph is a very educated man, having travelled and learned throughout Eyropa there is hardly any problem he cannot solve, given time. To add to this, he is exceptionally well in languages often acting as an interpreter when need be, though with anyone speaking multiple languages he occasionally gets them confused, or will use a wrong word or phrase, causing some humorous or horrifying situations.
Marksman- Christof Von Haustanzer has had training with his pistol as far back as he can rember. As long has Christoph is using his personal pistol he can hit near anything at range with it with an amazing accuracy. As a downside to this, he is not entirely confident with other weapons because of their assumed lesser quality, and his unfamiliarity with them.
Duelist- Like his pistol Christof has had extensive training with his rapier, and like his pistol, he trust no other weapon but his.
Inspiring Presence- Spending most of his life as an inquisitor Christof has developed an inspiring presence of sorts, he can drive people to do amazing feats or send foes cowering just by saying a few words or doing a few actions emitting an aura dripping with confidence to inspire people around him.
Slow Ageing- Due to the elf blood running in his veins his average lifespan is longer than the average human. Members of the Haustanzer family have been notorious for their long lifespan, living up to double of their pureblood counterparts, though the longest member lived up to two hundred. The interesting part about this is instead of ageing regularly, there ageing is slowed. Even though Christof is almost 70, he is more akin to that of a thirty five year old, though his appearance betrays his normal age.
An eye for the magic- During his time in the inquisition Christof hunted down evil magic uses and shape shifters trying to hide amongst the crowd. When needed Christof can spot almost any evil magic user or shape shifter by detecting their magic Aura or noticing “something a bit off” about the individual in question. This also applies to shifters in shifted form following the “something a bit off” method. Christopf can also use this ability on magical weapons and items as well though it’s a bit harder, considering most weapons and items don’t have an alignment.
Well known- During his adventures, travels, and work for the Church of Theogios Christof has made many friends and enemies throughout the world of Pal Tahrenor. Chances are no matter where in Pal Tahrenor Christof is he can find someone, be it as influential as a governor or as lowly as a farmer, to help him out in some way or form. Granted this is a two sided sword for Christof has also made many enemies during his travels, so though he has a good chance of finding help he has an equal chance of someone wanting his head for a past grievance he had caused.
Weaknesses:
Easily drawn off topic- Christof has an extensive amount of information stored in his brain, and will when discussing a certain subject with someone else, he will usually have to explain something to the other person, drawing them off topic, and in explaining that be drawn to another topic, and so on and so forth. This is also a normal occurrence when he’s solving a problem, sometimes forgetting what the original problem was unless he wrote it down or someone reminds him.
Arrogant- Being highly educated Christof will often reject ideas or methods used by others scoffing at them saying that there methods or ideas are “barbaric” or “hetheinistic”. This can sometimes cause problems when Christof is in places where science and technology are not used because Christof will often outright refuse treatment or aid, even it means certain death, though he will usually come around in the end when push comes to shove, though he won’t like it.
Mistrust of magic- Christof spent most of his life as an Inquisitor for the Church of Theogios hunting wrongful users of magic and other evil magic beings. This has caused him to have a mistrust of anyone or anything that uses magic
Inquisitorial Past- . Christof was an Inquisitor for the Church of Theogios for most of his life and being in the business of hunting down magical persons and beings, the Inquisition has made a reputation for its self and not in a good way. Granted the Inquisition tries to follow the idea of kill one to save a thousand, its normally the killing that draws the attention of the people, not the fact that it was an Arch mage that was killing villages by the dozen that was slain. Since Inquisitors usually mean bad news for someone, when Christof rolls into town his and the inquisition’s reputation precedes him causing people to be afraid of being burnt at the stake or something else equally as horrible for something that they didn’t do, though Christof assures them they have nothing to fear unless they did something wrong.
Its part of the job- Fighting magical beings is no easy task bumps so scrapes are a common occurrence, and Christof Von Haustanzer is no exception to this. Over the years Christof has been nearly drowned, set ablaze, shot at, stabbed, and suffered many other types of injuries some minor some more serious., One in particular is his left eye, which he is half blind in from a sword cut to his face , resulting in him having to wear a black eye patch with the inquisitorial seal in silver on it. The blindness only really effects his ranged vision and night vision, anything past about five feet he cannot see clearly, and everything within that distance is fuzzy at best unless it is about a foot away from him, something Christof is happy about because he can still enjoy his books also he cannot see at night with his left eye.
Weakness to magic- Throughout his years of battling Chistof has taken the brunt of a lot of harmful magic. Over time his natural ability to resist the effects of magic have deteriorated to almost nothing, causing him to rely on his ability to detect magic more than ever to avoid potential disasters when battling magic users.
History:
Christof Von Haustanzer was born in a small village a few hours south of Pedom Morim named Helsburgh. Born into a Merchant house, specializing in foreign trade, Christof was destined to became a merchant like his father and his father before him, as was the family tradition. As Christof aged his family sent him to Pedom Morim for proper schooling in the art of languages, something that was important within their house, as interpreters were either expensive or hard to come by an the rest of the family had other specialties or were too old to attend the specialty school.
Everything was going according to plan until the Church of Theogios came knocking on the door to speak asking for people to help aid the church. The Haustanzer family, being puradnes themselves, gladly offered Christof as both a donation and to aid the church. After saying goodbye to his family he left to Corezo at age nine to go aid the church. He did not know what to expect when he left for Corezo, thinking he was going to be a monk, or maybe even a preacher he was surprised when he learned he was destined to be an Inquisitor, a hunter of those using magic and an aider to those being hurt by it.
For Ten long years Christof trained in the ways of his now chosen path, learning how to fight, shoot, preform acrobatics and other things needed for his career, before being apprenticed to Karl Stittengrapher, a well renown scholar and Inquisitor in his own right. Christof was enthusiastic in being granted this opportunity to learn and hopefully aspire to be as great as his new mentor. This link did prove to be beneficial for both Christof and Karl, for Karl did not have a son or a family to call his own and adopted Christof as his own and Christof had a father figure who he lacked and also a wonderful mentor.
When Christof turned twenty five when he and an aging Karl were sent to look into a coven of Elves who were using magic to cause terror and strife to a small village roughly around the same region as where Christof grew up in Helsburg. Arriving in the village Karl and Christof began researching what was happening to the villagers, where were the elves coming from etc. According to the villagers the elves would come in the night and would kidnap some of the women and children and take them away to their camp and no one knew what happned after that. Determined to put a stop to this Christof and Karl laid a trap for the evil elves to where they could chase them back to their camp and rescue the villagers if they were still alive. At roughly midnight Karl spotted several of the elf raiders sneaking into the camp. Christof was surprised when they were pointed out to him, as they were almost invisible in the night. Christof chased after them, as the plan stated, following them deep into the woods with Karl a short distance to behind. Tailing the elves Christof and Karl approached the camp expecting to see the villagers in cages, or worse dead, the two were surprised to see the villagers happily mingling along with their supposed captors. Karl waltzed into the middle of the camp exclaiming “I am Karl Stittengrapher Inquisitor of the Church of Theogios, what spell have you put these villagers under?”. The leader of the camp, who was surprisingly human, came up and told them the story of what happened, the village that they were supposedly were protecting was in fact controlled by an evil fairy casting a shape shifting spell on themselves and feeding off the life force of the villagers left, and the elves in fact had no latent magic ability were freeing them from the spell by taking them out of the village. Being enraged at being tricked Christof and Karl went back to the village and sought vengeance by going to the mayor’s house and setting it ablaze. As the mayor doppelganger leapt from the building, he shot at Karl, hitting him in the thy, Christof immediately returned fire with his pistol and killed the fairy outright with a shot between the eyes. Rushing over to his mentor he saw that he was mortally wounded. Christof cried on his mentors as he bled out, but before he died, Karl told him to go back and tell him that their task was complete and to return to Corezo, Christof agreed and held his mentor as he faded into an oblivion. Christof burried Karl Stittengrapher in the village where he died a short cerimony was held for the villages savior, and then Christof headed back to Corezo to report on what happened.
After losing his mentor Christof was never the same and for the follwing fifteen years he became very introverted. He often locked himself in his personal chambers with nothing but books for days on end only coming out to eat and bathe and hardly talking to a soul. When the church called on him to do something he would go off by himself and downright refuse help from anyone even when doing dangerous missions, causing him to cause suspicion of practicing magic himself. After an investigation of the alleged rumors on his fortieth birthday he requested a leave of absence to travel back to his hometown to visit his family who he hadn’t seen when he was nine.
Upon returning home, he found his home was in shambles, for a plague had affected the region and killed off most of his family. Sitting down with his sister, who was born after he left, and with his father, the only two left alive he told them about his life and adventures, including the death of his mentor. As he stayed with was left of his family he took the time to study his genealogy, discovering that a few generations back there was an elf in his bloodline, which would explain his faimlily’s notorious longevtivity. Finally after about 5 years at home he decided it was time to return to duty, saying goodbye to his family he returned to Corezo, to continue his life as an inquisitor.
When he returned to Corezo he was a changed man, having new knowledge and venting his inner daemons he fought with new vigor, amazing even his old friends. After his sixtieth birthday, he decided that after spending almost fifty years as the churches hammer was enough, and put in for resignation. The higher inquisitors granted it to him thinking that he was getting up in his years anyway. Traveling back to Helsburg he moved into his old house with his dad and sister, and brought his personal library with him, literally hundreds of books he had acquired over the years. Christof continues to travel and help his inquisitor friends out when they need it.
After returning to Helsburgh from an adventure up north, hunting down a group of trolls who had somehow gotten their hands on a magical sword and attempted to slaughter a small town, Christof was handed a letter by his sister from an old friend from his days training with the Inquisition named Benjamin Moore. The letter itself was in horrible shape, the envelope was badly beaten and apparently set on fire judging from the burn marks, Christof was surprised that it was still intact at all. After opening it and seeing the damage did not spare the letter itself, he was even more intrigued by the fact that the letter was written in a code of sorts, a language he hadn’t seen since his time in Corezo as a youth. Christof immediately began deciphering the letter, or what was left of it, knowing that it couldn’t mean anything good for Benjamin didn’t write in code or old languages unless it was of upmost importance and for only certain people to read. After working the better part of a day on it Christof could only pull a couple of phrases out of the letter from its condition and also the antiqueness of the writing. The only thing that really stuck out were two places, Marn and Shim, and the river Ofriyu Mar, All of which worried him for Benjamin was not from that region, and what he was doing there was beyond Christof. Christof mulled over the letter for a few days thinking what it could mean, the desecrated shape of the letter couldn’t help but fuel his suspicions that something bad had happened to Ben, and Christof wouldn’t let his friends potential death go unheard of, packing his things and saying goodbye to his family once again he headed to the city of Marn mentioned in the letter.
