Kelishtav
Posted: Thu Sep 01, 2011 9:28 pm
Name: Kelishtav
Age: 20
Race: Fae
Height: 14" to 4' 11"
Weight: 8lbs to 113lbs
Physical Description:
Kelishtav is short and... fluffy, but neither of these facts bother her in the least. Her height is due to her race and her love of food contributes to her weight, although she is only a little 'healthier' than the average fae. Fat would be an exaggeration, a word her people taunt her with when they can find no other entertainment for the moment.
She is not fair and lithe, she is brown. Brown hair, short and mousy not golden, that she is constantly brushing out of her face if she doesn't pin up the front somehow. Brown eyes, more like wood than honey, large, friendly and very observant. And brown skin, a deep tan like the fur of a deer. Her small rounded nose is child like and her full lips almost always look as though she is on the verge of laughter. Though she is not the image of shimmering beauty the name fae conjures, she has a pleasant look about her.
Her apparel depends on what she is doing, but usually consists of pants, leather boots, and a blue blouse. Whether fancy dress or everyday wear, the colors are usually blue or brown.
Possessions:
Only carries the clothes on her back and a blue ring on her little finger. A small band of blue the color of the sky with intricate swirls etched around the entire piece. It is worthless to others but on a faerie it gathers good luck. It also represents her clan and her new status as an adult. She carries no weapon or coin.
Powers or Strengths:
Natural faerie traits -The fae are some of the most magical beings on Pal Tahrenor, which means they're not very popular in Thar Shaddin where magic is strictly controlled. Not much is known about them by most humans, especially in this isolated place where so few are present. Fae magical abilities can vary greatly, but most can change size from between a foot tall and human size and can seduce, entice, confuse, or otherwise mess with the mental state of less magical creatures - particularly humans. Their personalities also vary, but they have earned a reputation for being untrustworthy, mischievous, and clever. Evil or mean spirited fae definitely exist, as do those who cause harm entirely by mistake while just trying to have fun. The natural lifespan of the fae is unknown.
-As an air elemental, she has the ability to steal breath, though the person must be very close to do this. At her current skill level the effect is only enough to give a person the feeling similar to getting the wind knocked out of them. Eventually she could kill by taking all the air and collapsing the lungs. Suffocation basically.
-Can pass on good luck by skin to skin contact. Just minor things... a few extra bishani, find that item you were searching for, get a good deal at the market etc.
-An excellent singing voice
Flaws and weaknesses:
-Aside from being a slightly chubby faerie, there are two things that repel her magic. Fast flowing water such as a stream or river and especially waterfalls and heavy rains. Even water poured from an earthen cup will work, though it must be very close to work.
-Iron bells. She will be locked in whatever form she holds currently and not be able not be able to use magic until the vibrations cease. Iron bells are avoided, and as it is nearly impossible to find a large city without them, she will go there only if absolutely necessary. Neither the bells nor water pose a problem if she chooses not to use magic.
-She is weak, her physical strength is equivalent to a twelve year old human child.
-Kelis has a tendency to be distracted easily and gets bored with her own pranks and schemes, often leaving before receiving the rewards of her efforts, unless it has to do with food.
- Stalkers. On rare occasion her tricks can cause some to become permanently obsessed with her. A faerie could have a scant handful of stalkers obsessed with them as they would have hoards of people who hated them for their tricks. It is not something she purposely does, but an unwanted side effect of magically seductive talents.
- Emotionally shallow, almost disconnected to the harm she causes. Cruel or cold would not be accurate, she simply pays attention to whatever gives her the most gratification. Whether or not a gullible traveler has money left to get home is not her problem, which place to spend her ill gotten gains is a more important dilemma. This can be fatal in another way. She focuses so much on the gain, little attention is placed on the danger of her plan.
-Cats. Kelis has a hatred and fear of cats. Cats love Kelis. She attracts them when in full form, but when small they try to eat her.
History:
Kelishtav hails from a small clan of mountain dwelling Fae nestled in the cliffs northwest of Keir. She is one of the many children of Sajav and Tara, notable Fae, who have done much for their people. What that was Kelishtav is not even sure, because it happen well before her birth. She knew it had something to do with a war with humans and securing the private lands they live peacefully in high away from other races. Some rich human was probably 'persuaded' to make a promise or treaty protecting them, thinking if it was broken the wrath of the Faerie Queen would bring harm to the humans. Kelishtav hardly believed something as great as a war with humans would happen but she knew humans were well aware of the dangers of angering faeries, especially an entire clan.
Much was expected of Kelishtav, so at the age of fifteen she set foot outside of her land for the first time on an outing with a few of her siblings. There was no real plan, they simply were looking for a bit of fun, stir up an adequate amount of trouble and scout the borders of their land for any people that may have settled too close. They managed to do all three.
Why a dwarf would be traveling with humans, especially this far south, she had no idea, but a lone dwarf nearly cost Kelishtav her life. In attempts to rob an odd band of travelers and scare them away from squatting to close to their home, they ended up making them fight among each other. The dwarf was well aware of tricks of the fae and tried to tell them but he was attacked by he others who were under the effects of faerie glamour and killed two of them in defense. The others, both faerie and humans ran for their lives. The humans were later found in Keir, babbling about seductress spirits enticing them to kill. Kelishtav, not being very skilled in speed, fell behind and was captured by the dwarf. Her sister used a small pouch of gems she had swiped from the dwarf to lead him away, so Kelsihtav could escape. They scattered in all directions and left the dwarf to scream and curse in confusion.
That was one of a handful of mild adventures she had been a part of but it was enough. Wanderlust had infected her young soul. She had the desire to travel farther from her homeland and see more of the world. It was not unusual for a member of her clan to wander away and never return for years, if at all. It wasn't the intention but it happened around the age of adulthood. After her naming ceremony, in her clan you don't have an official name until you reach twenty, she left for places unknown.
(Yes it is short, but she is young and has had an easy, happy life. Let me know if it is not enough.)
