Player Name: Russell
Name: Morium Uldain
Age: 46
Race: Human
Height: 5' 11"
Weight: 201lbs
Physical Description: Morium is stout individual that commands a "tall" presence when in the company of his peers. His appearance is maintained to show a decorum of professionalism, his dark hair is always slicked down and his beard neatly trimmed. He prefers to dress in only the current styles of the time while out in public.
On the other hand, Morium's appearance is very unkempt when he is working in the privacy of his shop. Torn clothing, work aprons, and messy hair are common sight.
Possessions:
Inherited from his deceased father, Morium owns a small commercial space in the city of Marn. The shop was once a smithy workshop that has since been converted into a tinker's workshop and storefront for Morium's inventions. He lives in a small room upstairs.
Powers and Strengths:
Technological Savant: The ability to understand and manipulate forms of technology and steamworks. Morium is in a constant state of understanding and creativity, always thinking of new ideas for schematics and inventions. This understanding also grants a familiarity with technology and a knowing of their use, inside and outside of battle. This is a passive ability.
Weaknesses and Flaws:
Failing Vision: While the medical diagnosis and cause is unknown, Morium's vision is in a constant state of decline. Once perfect his eyes become tired and blurry on occasion, sometimes making even reading an impossibility. The search is ongoing for a doctor or bloodletter that can alleviate the pain and correct his vision but Morium fears that blindness is down the road.
Magical Hatred: Morium has a deep-rooted hatred of all things magic. Believing it to be evil, all forms of magic and it's users have no rights including that which is to live.
History:
Morium's childhood was uneventful, the typical of any middle-class family residing in Marn. His father was the bread winner, an entrepreneurial blacksmith making arms for the city guard and the occasional independent contracts on the side. Morium was an only child.
At the age of twenty-three, fresh into an apprenticeship with his father, Morium witnessed his mother die of consumption. The illness had turned her lungs into a swill of blood over a period of two years. Her death affected Morium deeply, and his father as well, as they both became more cynical toward the outside world. His father was changed more so than Morium as he became reclusive, never leaving
the workshop.
For the next several years Morium continued his apprenticeship with his father, learning the trade of a blacksmith. It was an honorable trade, it filled a certain niche that would always be around but something was missing. Refining metals wasn't Morium's only calling, he needed more. It began with clocks, a sophisticated yet simple piece of machinery. Clockwork parts were ingenious and would serve to be the basic element in all things mechanical. Add electricity to the formula and devious devices could be imagined. Morium was a savant with technology and it was this that became his pursuit, despite his father's protest. He was an inventor.
Morium tried to win his father's approval, even combining a tesla engine with a greatsword. The pursuit was in essence a success, using the power of the tesla he was able to produce a stable current of electricity that pulsed through the blade. Miniturization doesn't exist during this time, technology was not advanced enough and Morium was not able to make a tesla device small enough to attach to the sword. The design was not worth pursuing, the sword would never be usable in battle. His father laughed at the failure, calling the pursuits "childish ideals."
A few years passed and Morium's father passed away. In his thirties, Morium had inherited the workshop and the Uldain legacy. Morium just celebrated his forty-sixth birthday. The years since his father's death had been uneventful, he was just making a living and getting by but there is one thing of note. He had been working on a secret invention called a Tezeret. A portable device used to detect magical energies, no matter how small. Morium's goal is to finish the invention and bring forth fame and fortune for his name.
