The Tarin are a very rare and quite extinct race that was created during the Changer's war many years earlier. They are humanoid, with long hairless ears that stick out of the top of their heads and tails that are also hairless. Their tail is normally around ten feet long, but they will often curl it up or twist it around them to keep it from getting in the way of what they’re doing. They are often thinner than humanoids, but taller as well, sometimes by several feet. (Not including the ears) Their hands are clawed at the end of each finger, and are their most common physical weapon. They have no hair on their body, except for their scalp, so they look something like a hairless humanoid bunny. Their hair is usually short, and comes in brown, black, and gray.

The Tarin began as a race used for supplies for the wizards that each Changer employed. The Tarin were created as little containers for magic from the Astral Plane. It was supposed to make it easier for magicians to use their magic by having a small part of the Astral Plane with them. The magic of the Tarin laces their skin, so that if anyone were to kill and skin them, they could use the skin to make potions, or for healing, or just to drain magic from.

During the war the Tarin were used almost as slaves to the magicians, meant to help them with everything they needed and then to give up the magic inside them at any moment. There were strict rules on how to use a Tarin since they were still alive and could fight back if they knew how. The Tarin were to be treated as dirt and never coddled or trained in any way. If they were, there was a problem. Eventually, one of the magicians grew attached to his Tarin and he helped the Tarin to learn magic. This Tarin's name was Scrolepoluvana, and he is now considered the first real Tarin because he created their society. When his magician died he was given a new master and he rebelled, using he skills he knew to free many other Tarin.

They traveled for a long time, freeing other Tarin and teaching them the magic that they had learned. The Tarin now became a more distinct race and began to believe in a culture that was all their own. They created their own city which they called Paradise, and made it to be the best place for them, with many of room to run and play. After the Changer's war, the Tarin were left alone for a little while and allowed to thrive. However, there soon came others who wanted to use the power of the Tarin skin and so they came after them, attacked Paradise, and scattered the Tarin. Since then, the Tarin have been gypsies and wanderers, trying to remain hidden but still live their lives in a fairly normal way.

The Tarin cannot use the magic in their skin, so it does nothing for them. They use magic in the way that any other magician would, through manipulating what they can get of the Astral Plane. Their magic is fairly simple and basic, and it is difficult for them to learn to properly control their magic on a large scale so they stick with their physical weapons, their claws and tail. Their tail has a grip of its own and can grab things, so when they feel safe about using their tail, they will use it. Their tail is thing though, so it’s easy to break and to hurt.

The Tarin believe in their own set of Gods that they call the Quavanoni. There are five gods in the Quavanoni: Shune, Lunatrine, Solaris, Terrelis, and Esporigne. Shim is the God of All, the Author of Creation. He brought together the other Gods and Goddesses: Lunatrine of Winter and the Moon, Solaris of Summer and the Sun, Terrelis of Fall and Earth, and Esporigne of Spring and the Stars. From these Gods and Goddesses spring the four tribes of the Tarin, each following their own respective deity. Shune has his own tribe, but it is intermixed with all the others. He is over the priest group that runs the rituals of the world. The Rituals of the Tarin consist of the Rites of Summer, Fall, Winter, and Spring, and mostly consist of wearing the right thing for the whole day and doing certain sacrifices and rituals. One of the ways to distinguish the tribe of a Tarin is to identify which jewel they are wearing. Those of Lunatrine wear black pearls, Solaris wear diamonds, Terrelis wear garnets, and those of Esporigne wear amethysts.

In the Tarin society, family is less of a pleasure, and more of a requirement. The father is always the fighter of the family and the mother is always the healer. They work together as a team and don’t have either above the other. The children are raised separate from the beginning, the boys always with their father and the girls with their mothers. Children do not intermingle and meet each other, and they are rarely even friends. The only ties that they have to each other are blood and religion, and other than that they stay apart.
