Player Name: Jason
Name: Ida Katerhin, born Elfreida Grimoord
Age: 46
Race: Human
Height: 5'5"
Physical Description
Despite her age, Ida has used magic to keep herself appearing less worn than she should be. Her skin is smooth, free of spots and creases, a healthy yet slightly pale colour many women wish for. Her hair is long, dark, thick, and also very healthy; Ida does little to keep it from its naturally chaotic state of messy waves and curls, more often tying it back from her face with a ribbon or two.
Her figure is curvy – pleasingly so – though she tends to dress conservatively, unless she has a reason to do otherwise; not because she feels any need to hide her body from the world – she would gladly walk about naked, with no shame at all, and has done so plenty of times – but she has come to prefer comfort and conformity is preferable to the unnecessary cold and wandering eyes.
If one takes much notice of Ida, they can see her age in her eyes and her general demeanour. It is not a clear thing, rather a general "sense" that she is older than she appears. Many mistake this as wisdom, which is, in reality, far from the truth. Ida, despite the mistakes she has made, is not a very mature person, still a teenage girl at heart, even if she has grown a little in these past 30 years. She can still be just as naive and careless, still just as easily taken by romance and mystery.
Childish vanity motivates her to keep herself looking youthful, flirting with the law by selling magic in Marn and thinking herself somehow above the general population of Thar Shaddin.
Possessions
She owns a small house in Shim, with several animals and a basic herb garden. On her person, she often carries runes and, most importantly, a small knife. This knife is used for tasks such as cutting plants, slicing animals, or carving runes in wood; it is generally not used as a weapon. If she travels into Marn, she will generally bring Bishani and several magical items with her (for trading). Into the woods, she might take items used for collecting ingredients or casting spells.
Strengths
Herbalism – knowledge of many magical and non-magical uses of various herbs, though much of this supposed "knowledge" may not be entirely accurate, particularly that considered "magical". However, some magical potions and spells involving herbs may possibly be formed simply from the will of the one creating said potions and spell, hence the false belief that the magic is caused by the particular herbs rather than the magic-user.
For the most part, her herbal practices are equal to that of any learned non-magical healer, or perhaps slightly enhanced by her magic, though not exceptionally so. Any truly magical herbalism takes a lot of time and effort to perform correctly, and so is not a strength which can be used immediately; a lot of preparation goes into her potions.
Poisons – a useful skill, one which goes hand-in-hand with Ida's skill with herbs, is her knowledge of poisons and how to create them. This is not a skill she practices often, except on the occasional animal, or when selling weaker poisons or poisonous ingredients in the city. Although this skill is potentially quite powerful, she does not often practice it, therefore can often lack the proper ingredients to create poisons, and carries only one or two simple, weak poison recipes in her memory. Her books and notes are almost necessary for the creation of poisons.
Divination – Ida is gifted with a talent for the art of divination, in many forms. Her most practiced are rune-casting, pyromancy (fire), and capnomancy (smoke). Very many things can be used with this skill, but some are far more effective than others. Another important point is that one cannot simply choose any method of divination and gain accurate knowledge; the accuracy of a reading depends greatly on the diviner's familiarity with the particular method. Basically, practice makes perfect...
Ida is most familiar with – in this order, from most to least – runes, fire, smoke, pendulums, some animal sacrifice and the reading of various body parts and blood, wax in water, bones, and tea leaves.
Weaknesses
Zeal – much of what Ida believes in is, in reality, not founded on truth; rather, fanatical belief taught to her from a young age, though one would have difficulty convincing her otherwise. Her belief may easily lead her into danger by giving her the false impression that she is more powerful than she actually is.
Magic – living in a place where magic is prohibited means Ida is in real danger of being arrested and severely punished, if ever she is caught. Because of her aforementioned belief, she can often be careless with how she flaunts her practices.
Frailty – though she appears healthy and youthful, the reality of her age is not completely absent, nor is her lack of natural strength. She cannot run far, lift heavy objects, or defend herself in a fight. She has little knowledge of weapons used in battle, such as swords and spears, despite how well she can use a knife on a lifeless object.
