Isaac Arcott

Player Name: Tristan
Author's Note: I know some of you have busy lives, so if you don't feel like reading the whole summary, just listen to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yzNapSRKs5w, I think it describes Isaac pretty well.
Character Summary:
Name: Isaac Arcott
Race: Human
Age: 18
Birthplace: Keltaris, Eyropa
Religion: Agnostic Theogian
Height: 5 ft. 8 in.
Weight: 118 Ilbs
Hair Colour: Light Brown
Eye Colour: Brown
Physical Description:
Isaac's face would best be described as plain. The straight and symmetrical dimensions of his face leave little worth mentioning, aside from the solemn/pensive look his facial muscles tend to favor. His hair is of a mediate length, parted evenly in the middle of his head. He might even be considered attractive, if he tried harder, but he is more complacent to attract as little attention as possible (except to a potential pilferer). His frail frame is usually garnered in simple but expensive dress shirts and quality vests to display his aristocracy, with the odd pocket watch or emblem embroidered on the surface for added decor. Though he dresses like he were in his late forties, no garment could disguise his youthful visage, for which he is often mistaken as a much younger man than he already is.
Possessions:
By the time Isaac arrived at Thar Shaddin, he had few possessions left. Most, including a leather nobleman's jacket and a carrying case, had been bartered off to caravans and highwaymen on his journey from Keltaris.
Upon arriving in Marn, Isaac is in possession of a few hundred bishani, a few handkerchiefs covered in blood, a leather-bound journal, a pair of reading glasses, and a ransom note written by Kamar Deythal 6 years ago.
Skills:
Isaac is well educated in reading/writing, history, natural philosophy, and public speaking. He is a competent chess player, though he is occasionally outsmarted by a creative opponent. Though it may not be considered a skill as much as a weakness, Isaac has an inconvenient admiration for debate, which is chiefly responsible for his indecisiveness.
Weaknesses:
Aside from being physically frail, Isaac is prone to spontaneous nosebleeds and dizzy spells, making him utterly useless for combat or physical labour. In terms of his personality, Isaac's pensiveness and skepticism often leave him in vacillation, and prevent him from taking action in life. He is also emotionally frail, and having been sheltered from most of the cruelties of the world, he has little defense against the overwhelming darkness in humanity. Most of his knowledge about the world has come from texts, which will often lead him to make premature judgments. In relationships, he has a tendency to become too attached and possessive, modeling his parents' own protectiveness over him.
History:
Isaac's life is far from exciting, but he has had the fortune of meeting some very interesting people, who highlight an otherwise dull existence.
Mr. and Mrs. Arcott
Isaac's parents were not born into nobility. They did not receive the expensive education that he did, nor did they grow up in the comforts of a wealthy manor, fenced off from the beautifully harsh city of Keltaris. Mr. and Mrs. Arcott were starving artists who met when a local florist caught on to the benefits of public advertisement. With what little he could pay them, he had the two draping slogans and signs all over the city. Their work had an uncanny ability to capture the attention of the public, and soon enough the small flower shop exploded into a giant business.
This caught the eye of the Bendulli family, who were officially known as a network of the most powerful and prosperous businesses in Keltaris. Unofficially, however, they were feared as the rulers of an underground crime syndicate, and the #1 traders of illegal and black market supplies in the city. They weren't too happy about the florist's expansion, and through a little persuasion, they were able to acquire ownership of the company. The Bendulli family was smart enough to see that the Arcotts were responsible for the success of an otherwise mediocre business, and by offering them more money than they ever dreamed of, they were able to buy their skills and further their influence on the public.
The Arcotts' work didn't stop at advertisement, however. Though the Eyropan empire had a presence in Keltaris, the Bendulli family saw themselves as the true rulers of the city, and saw to this by infiltrating the city's government. The Arcott's found themselves shifting more from the work of advertisement, to propaganda, and through their creative campaign ideas, several candidates on the Bendulli payroll made their way into the publicly elected body of government.
Though they personally never took part in any illegal activity, they were well aware of the Bendulli's darker reputation, and felt the shame that came with their wealth. Wishing none of it on their child, Mr. and Mrs. Arcott tried their best to shield Isaac from that world, and through private tutoring, encouraged him to become a scholar.
Katryn Salliniari
Isaac first met Katryn when he was six years old, and instantly fell in love. The adopted child of a powerful crime lord, she had virtually no relationship with her foster father, who adopted her solely to boost his public image. Raised by servants that would come and go over the years, her attachments were few, and Katryn grew to prefer things that way. When Isaac and Katryn were introduced as playmates, neither had many friends, and despite their differences in temperament, they were drawn to one another. It was Katryn who introduced Isaac to fiction, who had only been exposed to literature in study material. It was then that his imagination began to flourish, and his hunger for adventure was first born, though it hadn't grown nearly as large as Katryn's. Despite Isaac's insistence that they were made for each other, Katryn never truly reciprocated his feelings.
The two were inseparable, but as a couple they never flourished. As much as Isaac desired Katryn, his timid introversion was not enough to satisfy her. This frequently frustrated him, and once Katryn announced to him on her 18th birthday that she was engaged to marry another man, he broke down. But instead of descending into despondency, Isaac decided he would flip his life on it's head and find the adventure he always craved. In his brash moment of heartbroken bravery, he foolishly got himself cursed, which is ultimately his reason for fleeing Keltaris and coming to Thar Shaddin.
Kamar Deythal
At the age of twelve, Isaac was held for ransom by a master assassin by the name of Kamar Deythal. Travelling under the alias Samuel Dennison, he was hunted by an underground guild of assassins that had connections to the Bellundi family. It was through that crime syndicate that Isaac's parents were involved. The two masters of propaganda were hired to create the wanted posters and city-wide announcements that had the whole city in fear of Kamar. This made the half-elf's passage through the city much more difficult, but not enough to stop him.
In her youth, Katryn Salliniari would often sneak away from her hired watchers to the city streets. With a penchant for adventure, the wealthy young girl would roam the streets pickpocketing strangers purely for the adrenaline rush. This is how she came to meet Kamar. While on the top floor of a two-story marketplace in the busiest district of Keltaris, Kamar found himself on the cusp of a confrontation with a group of suspicious guards. Katryn used that moment to try and snag one of the pouches on Kamar's belt, but was discovered. Luckily, the diversion of the guards allowed her to escape empty handed, but after they were dealt with, Kamar gave chase to take revenge on the little girl. He tracked her down to the attic of an abandoned store, where Katryn kept all of her spoils. Hoping to teach the girl a lesson, Kamar decided to remove his hood and reveal his identity before exulting his revenge. He expected to scare her, being the infamous assassin that had the city in fear, but when he lifted his hood he was met with not fear, but fascination. Katryn was in awe of him, and for this lack of fear, Kamar decided to spare the girl.
Though Kamar had no problem getting through Keltaris on his own, Katryn insisted that he use her help, and so she devised a plan. She convinced Isaac to stay with Kamar and pretend (she assured him) to be kidnapped. As ransom, Isaac's parents would have to announce to the city that 'Samuel Dennison', the deadly assassin, had been caught and killed, thus allowing him passage. Isaac, who genuinely feared Kamar, let his feelings for Katryn get the better of his judgment and agreed. He spent several days in that same attic with Kamar, and started to doubt whether or not his kidnapper was actually pretending or not. Luckily his parents complied swiftly, and Kamar left Keltaris, never to be seen again.
Alyson Rolfe
Isaac has never met Alyson Rolfe. He has no idea who she is, what she looks like, or what she's done, but he knows that she may be the most important person in his life. Isaac has 32 days (as of the day he arrived in Marn) to kill Alyson Rolfe, or he will die. Why, you ask? Because he is an idiot.
All the education and protection in the world cannot ward the idiocy of a broken heart, which is how Isaac came to curse himself. Isaac is not in any way magical, but being that Keltaris is a large city, there are enough magical beings living and passing through there to hire one. After Isaac's first love announced that she was betrothed to another man, his heartbroken soul longed for a change. Dreaming of a life less ordinary, Isaac decided he would travel the world and go on quests like the ones he read in stories as a child. Well aware of his greatest weakness, Isaac knew that the only way he would commit to such an action was if he left himself no choice; his life had to be at stake. So he sought out a powerful mage by the name of Dubrindja, whom he payed a hefty sum to bestow a curse that could only be lifted upon completion of a quest. Anticipating his own apprehension, he asked Dubrindja not to disclose the details of the quest until after the curse was placed. Basing his knowledge of the world on literature, Isaac expected something arbitrary, like retrieving a golden dagger, or slaying some exotic beast. To his surprise, Isaac was informed that if a woman by the name of Alyson Rolfe was still alive in 60 days, Isaac would drop dead.
Isaac spent a month panicking before he finally decided to go to Thar Shaddin, where the girl resided. He wasn't a killer, he didn't know anything about this woman, but it was either murder or death. Unable to locate Dubrindja, Isaac wasted a month searching for a cure to no avail. When he realized his time was running out, he hastily decided to seek out this Alyson Rolfe, not sure of his own intentions. Perhaps if she was evil, like the villains in the novels he adored, then he might conquer his ethical inhibitions and complete his quest. If not, then...
Isaac has 32 days to live
OOC: I know I probably should've gotten permission on the whole Bendulli/Salliniari details, but I couldn't wait any longer. I'm ready to play! If it's an issue with Frug I'll change it, especially since I haven't actually finished reading "Natural Selection". But Frug, if you read this and are ok with it, feel free to use Katryn as an NPC, I'll leave all her other details up to you. It's not essential to my character's story, I just thought it would be a nice little nod to the other threads. As for Kamar, unless he says otherwise, everything has been checked over and OK'ed with him.
PS: I intend to update this profile with journal entries whenever Isaac gets a chance 'in game' to write them.
