Abandoned threads?

At what point do you call a thread "abandoned", and allow your character to move on?
Let's just say that you've just introduced yourself on a thread that appeared to be fairly active, your character's left with her face in the mud, and all of a sudden, it's like you've walked up to the crowded water cooler and everyone stopped talking. For two weeks. At what point can you call "do over" and reintroduce them elsewhere?
I understand that people have lives and all, but I came here to play - not to post once a month, and take a year and a half to do a simple dungeon crawl.

I'm sorry this has happened to you. I went and checked out the thread and I can tell you that it hasn't been completely abandoned. Kat is still around and should be posting. I see Brakk hasn't left any sort of message that he planned to be away for so long or advised the two of you to skip him, so yeah my advice is to either skip him or if you must you can always write yourself out of the thread if you have to. Is it possible that your character could just walk away from the whole situation and make it into town?
I'm going to be sending out PMs today and I will be sure to ask about the long delay in posting.

I forgot to tell you that Brakk takes awhile sometimes. I'm pretty sure he has five (or around five) kids, and he's the main bread winner in his family, which is why I tend to just wait it out. . .but since you've only got the two characters, and this is your first thread, I know how the wait sucks. Took a month or so to get Iarei (my first char) in a thread, and that thread failed, and then it took several months before I got her into a thread again. Suckage! Brakk usually takes a week or two to post; when you caught us it was higher activity than normal. And then there was the one time when Brakk lost his job and took about a month to get back in the saddle....
Next time though, please post in the plot thread, as I do log on pretty much every day but saturday and sunday (even if not on deil), and I tend to forget how long its been for what thread since other people posted, and I do feel bad having you wait so long on your first thread. I'll make it up to you, I swear! (along with the other new people, Cal never got into a thread, and his character is a rogue as well and very well written (
http://www.tharshaddin.com/rp/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2310 )I'd wanted to steal him for my gay thread, but it didn't work out that way. >> Since then I've been trying to find someone to send him a pm, but to no avail)
Ummm, I'd say if you want to hop in with some of the other people who recently joined (or another thread), go ahead and just edit your post so it avoids mention of Brakk entirely. Then he can just play it off as noises in the forest when he returns.
And also, it might take a couple tries before you find a good thread fit for you, so don't lose hope! This is my second try on Deil as well, the first thread I did with her the guy just vanished one day (after progressively longer periods between posts) and never returned. Then I waited half a year before someone who could mesh with Deil came along. Have faith!

If it's just one guy, you can skip him. People are supposed every 3 days or so if they don't give notice otherwise; I normally forge ahead if someone's silent for a week without notice.

It just doesn't work that way when there are only three people in the thread. I'm all about skipping laggers when you've got 10+ people playing (those generally have a "post every 24-48 hours or you're fired" rule) but you can't just write in their parts or skip them entirely - that makes the story suffer.

As mentioned here, the grace period is 3 days, after which it's up to your discretion. It sucks for all parties involved, just don't get mad, and do what you need to do to continue writing by either skipping, writing yourself out of the thread or, if absolutely necessary because it's too deep into the plot, write for the other person. In the last case, more than 3 days grace should be given. I'd say a week before writing something significant for someone else.

For the thread in question, however, it was already established between myself and Brakk that it's fine if he takes a week or so to post. I'd just totally forgotten to tell that to Ischia.
