Jusham Yer Trawenil Hanser
Age: Could be anywhere from his late forties to his early eighties, no one knows.
Race: Some sort of human from somewhere, good luck getting it out of him.
Purpose: A merchant in downtown Marn with a largish stall. He typically keeps his wares inside his stall, though on some days when he's in a good mood he'll extend his canopy and spread out his wares. He deals in wooden trinkets, occasionally furniture, hair ornaments, and simple brass jewelry. Sometimes he'll carry exotic scented wood, as well, but it is not a good he is able to stock all the time. He also has connections with nearly every major merchant in town, as well as a good relationship with many of the travelling caravans that come through. His long associations with a good number of people is what causes the confusion with his age; many of the people he claims (and is generally believed) to know and have dealt with died long ago, and he would have to be very old indeed.
He is a good person to go to if you want to know who carries the best deals for a variety of goods, or if you want to find someone.
He has a network of individuals whom he uses to suss out magical disparities for Marn's government. In return for leads, he is allowed a small allotment of leeway in the goods he brings in and trades within Marn, as well as a small fortune of personal favors. He is an exceedingly careful man who has been operating thus for a long time, and has yet to be publicly known for his dealings with Marn's influential -- though rumors abound. Even when some of his patsies are caught by the magically criminal, he is always one step ahead.
Demeanor: Often grumpy, short tempered, little patience. He has a weakness for baked goods, which is especially good in the early hours and before deep afternoon. He is very bad tempered in the morning (his joints seem to be the cause if his swearing is any indication). He is capable of being very well mannered and even, some say, courtly in the way of Eyropians; the main reason he is patronized by any number of Marn's influential and wealthy. He has a weakness for cute children, as well, but he hates teenagers with a passion born of theft and vandalism.
It is not wise to cross him. Not only is he unafraid of braining interlopers with his very hard wooden cane, but it's said he has quite a good relationship with the guards of Marn. There has been talk of disappearances at his behest, but it's not wise to be caught talking about it.
He's a fair dealer, and a fair person, and has a deep rooted sense of honor often belied by his outward attitude.
Appearance: Not too wrinkled, salt-and-pepper grey haired with a few lonely dark hairs left over from his youth. His eyes are dark and seem old. His skin is resilient enough in appearance, but if one looks closely it is acquiring the papery texture that the very old attain. His hands are in remarkable good shape, though they swell in the early morning and late evening. It is clear they are used to hard work.
He is not overly tall, but he has a strong presence and it would be very hard to overlook him in a crowded room. He is, as they say, quite magnetic.
