Question about "pets"

In one of the articles I read something about goblins being considered a pet, while I don't want to actually use it as a character, would this goblin pet be considered a possession or a NPC, as they are "sentient" even if considered lesser.

When it comes to NPCs here, there is a lot of variance. Pets are usually used as NPCs that are intrinsic to the character--that is, you would include the pet in the character application, and it is assumed that the pet is with the PC as most times unless otherwise specified, and if the pet has any powers, these must be approved.

NPCs that exist independently from PCs are usually ambient characters that are for plot progression purposes, and as such don't generally require approval. They sort of flit in and out for the sake of the plot. Sometimes these NPCs are outlined in the NPC section of the forums, but that is more for information purposes for people reading threads with lots of recurring minor characters. Some of these NPCs are played alternately by different writers, and others are kept as the sole property of the original writer. Since they are in place for plot purposes, they don't need to have, for example, their list of possessions pre-approved.

If you want your character to keep a goblin as a pet, then treat it like an attached, or intrinsic NPC. The fact that it is sentient is irrelevant, since many animal familiars and the like are of near-human intelligence, and are also treated like pets. So, if you're including a goblin pet/slave, please be sure to list any possessions, powers, and relevant weaknesses of the goblin as well.
