Ja'bim
Posted: Fri Aug 21, 2009 3:00 am
Name: Ja'Bim
Age: 22
Race: Quarter-Orc, Quarter High-elf, Half-Human
Physical Description:

At 5'8 and 165 pounds he gained none of the stature of his orc heritage, but beneath the surface it is obvious that his lean appearance is all dense muscle and bone. He wears a simple beige tunic, open at the top and belted at the waist with brown cotton pants and black leather traveling boots. His wrist are wrapped in linen bandages to hide the scars of the shackles that held him captive for so long that even his skill at magic can't heal them. The blend of races in his blood offers his appearance aspects of each. The sturdy hands and facial features of a human. The tinted green skin of an orc and slightly sharpened teeth and nails. The upward pointed ears and glowing blue eyes of an elf. For some reason he has yet to grow facial hair but he does keep his black hair short.
Possessions: Besides the clothes on his back he has very few possessions. Besides the clothes on his back he has a sack of gold coins (20 in total) he also has his favorite elf-breed stallion stolen from his masters stables at the time of his escape.
Powers or Strengths:
Heightened senses - His mixed blood gives him heightened senses only slightly higher than the standard elf.
Orcish strength - Although he doesn't appear large his muscles and bones retain an orcs density giving him increased stregth and stamina. It doesnt hurt that he has spent 22 years doing physical labor day in and day out.
Magical Savant - Although lacking formal training his ability to grasp magic in general is something that comes to him natural and his control with the freedom to practice or a actual teacher has no limit to how high it can go.
Skilled Rider - For years one of his task was to care for and exercise his masters extensive stable of horses. So his skills on horseback are rather in-depth
Absorb Magic - By coming into contact with a magical object or being he can siphon the magical energy out of it to sate his addiction. This is something that he has fought for years to control as he was taught that giving into his urge was the worst sort of evil.
Magic -
Arcane Magic: Conjuring Items (Minor) - Food and Water, Shield (Minor) - His shield is only strong enough to block a few heavy hits from a weapon or spell, Energy Ball (Minor)
Shaman Magic: Converse with the elements (Minor) - He is able to converse with the elements but his control over them is limited i.e. starting a small fire, making a strong wind etc.
Holy Magic: Healing power (Minor) - Able to heal small wounds like cuts and fractures.
Combat Abilities - Besides his magical abilities he has no actual training in combat of any form or with any weapon.
Secret Powers - Beacon of Power: In times of duress his mystical abilities increase. He can then release this power all at once stunning his enemies or channel it into his spell casting.
Weaknesses and Flaws:
Magical Addiction - Because of his mixed parentage and the use of magic heavily in the coercing of his parents to create him, Ja'bim is heavily addicted to magical energy itself. Unlike others who might succumb to it, Ja'bim actively fights his addiction and is required to meditate at least an hour every day to maintain personal control. He is not proud of this addiction, and takes pains to keep it a secret. Being close to large sources of magical energy will satiate the addiction, as will the use of certain magical items, though it should be noted that his Master did his best to keep him away from these and magical objects that provide the same result are rare. Magical addiction is not fatal in and of itself (the only subjects who have actually died from withdrawal were either elderly, very young, or already ill). Going without his daily meditation or restraining himself around magic heavy areas or items can leave him physically exhausted.
Blood Fury - In the heat of battle or if pushed by someone Ja'bim can lose himself in what is known among orcs as Blood Fury. In this state all thoughts of magic leave his mind and he results to his baser primal abilities. Seeing as how he wears no armor and has no actual training in hand to hand or armed combat, this can be a death sentence for him if left unchecked.
Honor - While not raised among traditional orcs ( the ones kept by Hal'dun were mostly captured or purchased slaves), Ja'bim does understand the concept of honor from his love of reading and like other orcs steadfastly follows his own moral code. For an orc, honor is as important as his clan, and most will die defending either clan or personal reputation. Coupled with his Blood Fury and lack of practical combat knowledge he can easily get himself into a situation he's not prepared for.
Naive - While he is techiniacally an adult his entire life has been spent inside the grounds of his Masters keep. Therefore outside of the books he managed to sneak and read he has never dealt with the 'real world' leading him to be overly trusting and gullible. This is especially true when it comes to women.
History: The birth of Ja'bim was orchestrated by Hal'dun, who "bred" one of his favorite orc/elf ( a entirely different story) warriors to a human female (which in itself implies rape). The result conceived a child that, as it would be discovered later, looked surprisingly human. Hal'dun also placed controls on Ja'bim's mind, making him his slave. Ja'bim would be raised in barracks with his father's people, hated by the bigger orcs for being different. Their judgments of him being "ugly and deformed" would become his own for years to come. The human female's brother however, the Paladin Darbith, would not care that Ja'bim was half orc. Having learned that his sister had borne a child, he began a search for his nephew that would stretch on for many years.
After his birth he was raised by his mother until the age of seven at which time she managed to escape while going into town for supplies for the tower. Although she was unable to take Ja'bim with her she vowed she would find some way to come back for him. It was at this tender young age that his natural affinity for magic manifested itself and Hal'dun, excited with the prospect, took him under his wing. He taught the child how to read and write in addition to his other duties as a slave but only taught him the bare basics of magic in order to keep his control over the boy strong.
For years Ja'bim slaved in the fields with other orcs, in the kitches with the few human servants, or in the library helping the Master personally, all the while his eager young mind simply watched, and learned. When assigned to stable duties he would try to duplicate his Masters spells and although his attempts failed most of the time he learned from each mistake and continued to try. It was during the times that he tended the horses that he also discovered his affinity for animals and developed a close bond with them seeing as how they were the only beings who didnt seem to judge him instantly based on his appearance.
When he was 14, like most children his age do, he began to rebel. Small things at first, sneaking a book from the library here and there. Bringing extra food to the other slaves. All the while his readings led him to see the wrongness in his life with Hal'dun. But it would be many more years before he felt he was ready to do anything about it.
On his 21st birthday he decided he had had enough. Confident in his abilities and himself he rallied the slaves together and began planning their escape. It took a year total, finding routes, storing supplies, equipping themselves sufficiently. But on the eve of his 22nd birthday they were finally ready. Or so they thought. After a short and brutal battle with the master of the tower himself and his spell-bound guards, only Ja'bim and a handful of slaves were able to escape. And those that did were all injured in some form or another. Now Ja'bim is on the run, constantly on the move seeking sanctuary in a world he is woefully unprepared to deal with, and one that is definitely not ready to handle him.....
NPCs:
Hal'dun -

Hal'dun’s constantly struggles with insanity for control of his body and mind. The fight between them is constant, and results in Hal'dun shifting periodically between stretches of calmness and lucidity and bouts of strangely incomprehensible behavior. To outsiders, he often seems to make abrupt decisions or reverse his position on issues.
When Hal'dun is in control of his body and mind, he is a friendly and wise individual. He cares deeply for a number of the high-ranking human leaders and puts the needs of the kingdom above almost everything else. He has defended the borders of the kingdom from attack many times throughout the years and has built a great reputation as a staunch defender of the land. He is not naturally biased against any of the races, and displays a fair amount of interest in people who bring to him stories of distant lands or cultures. However, when his alter ego is in control, Hal'dun’s personality shifts dramatically. He becomes sullen and distant, barely acknowledges the presence of close friends, and practically ignores strangers. He is secretive and often travels to faraway places abruptly. In private, he will not hesitate to do away with annoying visitors by using his spells to kill or incapacitate them. However, he is moderately concerned about his cover being blown with the leadership of the land and will not act out of character in public.
Gena Startreader (Leader of the Night's Heart bounty hunting group) -
When Valeera was young, her family was killed by bandits. She survived both the bandits and the Scourge, eking out a living by stealing what she needed; however, when trying to steal a Shaman's talisman, she was caught and jailed. Showing her fighting prowess by injuring several of the guards in the process, it's possible that is how she attracted the attention of the Night's Heart group. Throughout the years and through several successful assignments she not only rose to prominence but leadership of the group.
Cameron Nillani -
She appears to be a kind and beautiful peasant girl from a small farming village. Unbeknown to anyone, she was in fact not a human at all........
