Physical Description:
Jarrah is relatively tall and somewhat thin, but not unhealthily so. He may be half elf but his ears aren't pointed like his brother's are, so most people aren't even aware of his elfin heritage. His pale blonde hair is a little past his shoulders, most often left hanging loose but sometimes he'll pull it into a short ponytail when he's working. His eyes are a bright emerald green and have a certain calming effect to them, and he almost always has a smile on his face. His clothes are simple, nothing fancy - a pair of trousers, a loose white shirt, and boots.
Possessions:
As a medic, Jarrah is almost always carrying a shoulder bag with him. In it are most of the things he needs to make medicines and other medical supplies. Hidden on his belt are a few throwing knives he keeps on his person for protection when out and about. The only time he carries any money with him is when he's specifically heading out to buy some things - otherwise he leaves it hidden at home.
Powers or Strengths:
--> Jarrah is a very skilled healer. His knowledge in medicine and first aid is extensive, and sometimes he secretly uses subtle magic to make his medicines more potent. He does this in secret since, of course, magic is illegal in Marn, so he's very careful not to leave hints and the only time he uses magic is when making his medicines.
--> He's also able to defend himself reasonably well with hand-to-hand combat and throwing knives, but he's by no means a fighter - he'll only do so if it proves necessary. Even then, his method of fighting relies on using the other's own movements and momentum against them, rather than attacking head-on.
--> Since he's half elf, his senses are a bit sharper than most humans but not quite up to par with that of a full-blooded elf.
Weaknesses:
--> Being who he is, Jarrah is often a little too trusting of some people, despite some hints they might give that they aren't all that trustworthy.
--> Also, being a medic, he's perfected the trick of keeping people emotionally distant - even though he's always perky and friendly to anyone he meets, he doesn't let himself get too attached. The only exceptions to this are his brother, Nyssa, and Cyrus.
--> He can hold his own okay against low-level fighters but could easily be overpowered by the right person.
History:
Jarrah was born a few miles outside of Keltaris in southeastern Eyropa. His father was a human trader who traveled the nearby trade routes quite often, and his mother was an elfin seamstress. Since his father was rarely home, his mother was often left to raise him and his elder brother Kaius by herself.
Things were fine in the home until shortly after Jarrah turned four. While his father was off on a trading run, a group of thieves invaded their home and killed his mother in the process. The brothers survived, as Kaius had the presence of mind to take Jarrah and hide with him in the storage house behind their home until the bandits left. After discovering their mother dead, Kaius didn't think it was a good idea to wait for their father to return - that would be several months down the line.
So the brothers gathered up a few things and what money they had left and managed to hitchhike over the next several weeks until they came to the town of Shim. Once there, Kaius heard about the Guard in nearby Marn and made the decision to join. He didn't want to take his younger brother into the city, so he asked an elderly elf lady and her son to take care of Jarrah while he was gone.
As luck would have it, the woman Nyssa was a healer and the son Cyrus used to be in the Guard himself before he was discharged. Jarrah learned a lot from both, although he discovered early on that he had more of an aptitude for healing as Nyssa did than he had for the physical dexterity required of one who's specialty is combat. He did pick up a few things from Cyrus, though - he learned to be really quick on his feet and handle throwing knives with relative skill, and he also picked up a few tricks in hand-to-hand combat.
Mostly, however, he would spend most of his time hanging around with Nyssa whenever she had a patient, and by the time he was a young adult he was an accomplished healer. Since magic wasn't banned in Shim, Jarrah learned how to use magic to enhance the effects of medicines, cutting healing time often in half for most who use them.
During this entire time Kaius would swing by regularly for visits, and when Jarrah was twenty he recommended that his younger brother come back with him to Marn and take up residence there, saying that the city could always use another good doctor. Jarrah declined the offer and for now has decided to stay in Shim to help out Nyssa since she's getting along in age, and he also has his own private practice there.
