Name: Ariadne Lucis

Age: 99

Race: Faerie

Physical Description:

This ninety-nine year old faerie is at the prime of her youth, if one is allowed to be ironic about it. Faerie reckoning is different from other races, thus it is possible that one be nearly a century and still possess the appearance and behaviour of a sixteen year old human.

Believing to have come from a noble aristocratic lineage she retains the bearing of a faerie princess standing at three inches on bare feet and spreading her red and black butterfly wings at a span of four inches. She has freely cascading black hair adorned with spring petals, a pair of deep amethyst eyes, pale and frosty lips and skin that glows pink and warm after every blush.

Garbed in a red and ivory dress made with intricate runic designs this pixie of delicate beauty stands out amongst her kind. Her clothes are made of filmy fabric from seasonal flora and precious stones, thus would tend to change in fashion as well. Occasionally she has on a pair of footwear, but most often than not, she is barefoot. Her skin is milky fair and untainted. Her body is light and lithe, fragile in exchange for extreme mental exercises for magick. Her voice rings innocence and kindness, and her tone always calm and soothing.

Possessions:

Ariadne, little as she is, possess no fancy armors or weapons. She carries a wand that amplifies her magic though without it her abilities are still astounding enough for the unlearned. Inside her pockets are some vials of tonic and healing herbs.

Personality Strengths and Weaknesses:

She has a bright and sunshiny desposition with a warm smile free for everyone. She is affected by gloomy and depressive creatures though and tries hard to cheer them up and help out as much as she can sometimes to her own undoing.

Being drawn to broken things is her insanity, if bluntly put, using her magick to restore all sorts of things from a chipped teacup to a broken heart. This playful and bubbly faerie usually knows what she wants and isn't the least bit shy about going after it, even at great lengths deemed foolish by humans or other kinds.

She possess a sense of destiny and may often find herself involved in unusual circumstances. Her best trait is unabashed honesty. She has a lively intelligence and a troublesome curiosity.

Physical Strengths and Weaknesses:

Never expect any combat prowess from this faerie. She has none. A punch would hurt as much as an ordinary finger flick. A kick would hurt a one-eighth more. Similarly, a finger flick would deal the same damage to her as if punched and kicked. If, she allows an enemy to connect. Being small and light, she is one of the most agile faeries. Think of an annoying mosquito buzzing in your head, except that this faerie has far greater speed, flexibility, and dodging abilities than an ordinary pest .

Magical Strengths and Weaknesses:

What she lacks in brawn is balanced out by her magick. A magical being herself she is not governed by laws of the physical plane. Her skill is infantile amongst the other mysteries of the astral plane, but placed within the human realm she is nothing but astounding and a figure of awe to those who engage her. In the "real world" her magick revolves around wishes, a wish-granting faerie if you will, and no magick will be cast for another kind (race) unless it is wished for [more on history]. Ironically, her magick does not work on herself. What she can perform in the Astral plane is yet unknown.

She has a close affinity with nature and is greatly affected by it. In a lush green forest where the hymn of nature in undisturbed her magick is amplified. In a rotten, grimy city her magick is diminished.

History:

Ariadne Lucis literally translates to Pure Light, and she is appropriately named so. She was summoned out from the astral plane and into the human world. How she was summoned and by whom she does not know. Something went wrong with the calling and she didn't appear in front of the mage who invoked her. She lost the message, the purpose of her coming. She ended up in the outskirts of Marn, in a dark and desolate roadside. A great amount of her power has been removed. By what force, she has yet to know. She remembers her name and age, and that she is a princess in her kingdom. But her mind has been hazed over, polluted by the world she found herself cast into, and what she believes for certain may not be certain at all. Thus, begins her adventure to seek her summoner, an task that could prove fatal, but is ultimately a quest for self discovery.

By the roadside she hid under some dying shrubberies. Three inches is not too difficult to hide. Her natural faerie glow is dampened by the filth of the air an land. Unable to conjure magick for herself she lie on the dirt and waited for sleep to quell her hunger and exhaustion. In her sleep a kind sweet voice of a lady tells her that she is to grant three wishes to the Chosen One. Only then will she be able to return home. Her adventure begins dreaming on that roadside and with the person who destiny brings to find her.

For the time being, this is all we know about this lost faerie.

I would prefer a more detailed history to a sample post, honestly because reading the sample post puts me off - the tenses are mixed up and jumbled, and it does not appear to match the character herself (Kore & Ariadne appear to be different characters), and Kore-as-Persephone reads as very Mary Sue (worshipped and the one source of life/light).

Wish-granting is very powerful. I like that she can only use it at the request of another, but I would prefer some idea of the limits of what her wishes can do.

I have been discussing the idea of a wish-giver with the other staff. As I said, the ability is very very powerful, so these factors need to be considered.

1 - Main concern is with the wish overpowering other characters. The wish must not be able to transform other characters without player consent, ideally through an IC (in character) limit to the wish rather than an OOC agreement - because it is not fair to other players for an omnipotent character to come in all of a sudden.

2 - Wishes must not make huge changes to the setting by themselves. While events in-game can and do cause the setting to adjust, transforming large chunks of the city all at once would cause too much damage.

3 - Wishes risk making the abilities of every other character less useful to the point of being unimportant. Why rob somewhere if we can wish the goal from Ariadne? Why go rescue someone if we can wish them back safely? Essentially she'd end up as the only character who matters in whatever plotline she's in.

One possibility is making each wish come with a high enough cost that asking for wishes is not a solution to everything. I have no ideas what the cost would be, or if Ariadne or the wisher pays it, but the cost would need to be clear and would need to paid (rather than the cost never becoming apparent).

Hope this gives you a clearer idea what we are looking for.
