Player Name: Thelonius Gant/Ninja Bob
Name: Anton Lyssak
Age: 23
Race: Human
Height: 5'9"
Weight: 135 lbs
Occupation: Travelling Magician
Physical Description:
"Gaunt" is the word most often used to describe Anton Lyssak, however considering the majority Lyssak life has been spent in the company of rather corpulent nobles this word is perhaps not the most accurate. Lyssak is a thin man, the latest in a long line of thin Lyssak men, but not exceptionally so. He is not athletic, and certainly not muscled, but he has a certain wiry resilience which has served him well. He moves quickly and fluidly, holding himself as if he were the most important noble in the land, something some what let down by his tossed short brown hair, bright green eyes brown hair and almost permanent grin.
His clothes have always been expertly tailored and expensive but due to his current situation his normally immaculate clothes have become a tad scuffed. Polished black leather shoes are caked in mud and his white line pants aren’t doing much better. His green silk shirt is frayed now, however it is almost completely hidden under the rough, ill fitting leather jerkin he picked up on his travels.
For all intents and purposes Lyssak looks like a wealthy westerner who’s gotten lost and this fact has has earned him the attention of several unsavourary characters, which was unfortunate for them. Perhaps if they had looked closer they may have noticed that something about Lyssak seems wrong. His expression seems hollow, his joviality forced and everything about seems laboured, almost as if he is an imitation man rather a real one. None of this seems onminous however, as nothing about the man would suggest that a there darkness in the heart of Anton Lyssak. It just gives the impression that there is nothing to be found in the heart of Anton Lyssak.
Possessions: As a result of being in quite hurry to begin his journey the only things that Anton can call his own are a deck of cards, a dagger that looks more like an ornament than an actual weapon and grubby platinum ring. However, so far this has been all he’s really needed
The deck of cards and his own innate ability to rob a man blind has allowed him to obtain around two hundred bishani, the ring, after a quick polish, is usually enough o convince people that he really is a western a wealthy western Noble out to see the world and the dagger has proved it’s worth in situations where card tricks and deception aren’t enough. Along his travels he has also picked up a leather jerkin and currently that is his own protection against the world at large.
Abilities & Powers:
Side step: At on least one occasion Anton has entered into the Astral Realm but the experience was so bewildering and terrifying he has never attempted to do so again. Presumably if he had the right motavation he could replicate that first journey but as of yet he has found no reason to do so.
Perception: His experiences in the astral realm have permanently altered Antons perceptions of reality. Though his physical senses remain as they were Lyssak is now capabale of sensing the location of magical beings or the use of magic. Unfortunatly this hasn't proved to be much of an advantage in a world so saturated with magic but it does give him some ability to guage the abilities of his enemies.
Illusion: The Astral Realm not only augmented Lyssak own perceptions but also gave him the ability to influence the perceptions of others. He does not have absolute control over another beings perceptions but he can make minor suggestions. For instance there could be suddenly appear to be more Bishani than there actually is or perhaps a person may believe that Lyssak is standing a foot to the right of where he is actually standing. Such manipulations are often quite subtle as if Lyssak were to try anything too ambitious the illusion would become obvious and when this occurs it is a quite difficult to fool them again. However, when his intended target is confused or frightened Lyssak is able to play on their fear, sometimes rendering his target conpletely helpess. Unfortunatly this is unlikely to work on a trained warrior but Anton has used it to great effect on the who he liked to refer to as the "peasentry".
Sleight of Hand: Due to his extensive "magical" training as a child Lyssak is very adept in deception and illusion. While this skill was chiefly developed for amusement it is worth mentioning that Lyssak would be quite a talented pickpocket if he ever considered the career change.
Weaknesses:
- As a result of his foray into the Astral realm Lyssak has become a tad unhinged. As a result of this he finds it difficult to determine when a situation is dangerous until someone physically tries to hurt him. As a result of this he can be extremely reckless and naïve at times. And then at other times he can quite correctly be described as insane.
- Anton has always been obsessive but it has only truly manifested recently due to his newfound freedom. Power and wealth are prominent among these obsessions but there is a myriad of other more bizarre preoccupations which dominate his life, most notably his preoccupation with the condition of his own hands.
- Physcially he is quite weak. Has no training with weaponary and relies almost entirely on distraction and surprise in any conflict. As good as his reflexes are these usually work poorly in a fight, perhaps because he is not a quick thinker in battle.
History:
Anton Lyssak was born on the western fringes of Caelteth Eyrop and bearing this in mind he did quite well for himself. From a very young age Anton and his family travelled with a performing troupe, a group of talented entertainers who were in great demand in the Noble courts. It was odd life to say the least but by no means a bad one. Anton’s youth was spent performing what little odd jobs he could within the group until at around the age of 12 when it was decided that little Anton Lyssak would be a good replacement for the groups aging magician.
It was an strange profession in a world where true magic was common but the simple fact was that true magic was frightening. It couldn’t be understood, it was difficult to control and few nobles would allow accept the risks associated with a truly magical performer. The sleight of hand and minor conjuration preformed by the magicians of the troupe was simple and reassuring, entertaining enough to watch but not impressive enough to be unsettling. This was the life chosen for Anton and for several years this was the life Anton lived till he was 22.
And then one day Anton disappeared.
It was odd thing to happen but even so children running away from the circus was not unheard of. Of course there was no need to worry as a little over a week later Anton reappeared, still wearing the same clothes he’d been last seen in and apparently none the worse for wear. Anton evaded any questions about where he’d been, he’d laugh it off saying he’d gone for a walk, and so no one ever knew where Anton had gone.
Least of all Anton himself.
He couldn’t describe what had happened and even simply trying to remember it proved beyond him. All he knew was that he’d been alone, alone for an incalculauble amount of time. He’d screamed and cried for help but nothing happened, if anything it got worse. It felt like days floating in oblivion and then suddenly he wasn’t alone. But soon he began to wish he was. He screamed again, just not for help this time and for a lot, lot longer.
Somehow Lyssak managed to get back, although perhaps not entirely. Ever since that day Anton seemed different, he became nervous and figety and as time passed he was barely able to handle a conversation with another person. Of course there was a slight advantaged as suddenly he was a great deal better at being a magician, perhaps because now because he was actually doing magic, but this was little compensation for Lyssaks growing paranoia. Eventually Lyssak reached the point where he had became withdrawn from the rest of the troupe. Things were only getting worse for Lyssak until one day he killed his father.
He hadn’t planned it, he didn’t even know why he did it but when his father came to "talk some sense" into him it had all seemed to clear. Once it was all over Anton felt good, something he hadn’t felt in quite sometime but unfortunatly killing someone wasn’t without repercussions and soon Anton had to kill another person, he wasn't even so sure who it was, just to get away. He didn’t have time to get much and he didn‘t even know where he was going but he was quite sure he should move quickly.
And that was the start of Anton’s journey. He'd decided he’d leave the empire but since Anton's knowlege of life outside Caelteth Eyrop didn't amount to much he wasn't even sure if such a thing were possible. Of course that you would end up in Tian Xia if you kept moving east but that wasn't the best place for a Westerner to hang around. And so Lyssak was quite pleased to hear that inbetween the two empires there was a city, not a very nice city but a city nonetheless, and so this is where Anton headed. He travelled with several people, falling easily into groups and travelling to the same destination. Unfortunatly Antons companions all met rather grisly fates, sometimes due to Lyssak or sometimes simply due to fate. Now Anton Lyssak is within a stones throw of Marn, with some Bishani in his pocket and a srping in his step.
He has a good feeling about Thar Shaddin.
