Player Name: SnotoftheDragon
Name: Maara Adriana Loki
Age: 17
Race: Half Demon and Half Human
Height: 5’ 1”
Weight: 97 lb 9 oz
Physical Description:
Maara has a long, narrow face and round cheeks. She also has a burn on her face that goes from just below her right ear to the middle of her right cheek. She has wide, round, scarlet eyes with slit, vertical pupils. Dark Red hair that reaches just pasted her shoulders. She also has a small braid on the left side. Attached to the end of that braid is a yellow bead and a little blue feather. A gold colored tan covers the exposed parts of her body caused by so much exposure to the elements (her face, neck, feet, hands, and forearms.). The skin that stays covered the majority of the time is a light cream color (her torso, legs, shoulders, and biceps).
Maara’s body is small and thin, but lean and toned from all her hard work and walking. She has several burns and scares along her chest, face, back, legs, and her biceps that she attained in her youth. She also has gray, bat like wings that grow from her shoulder blades. When tucked together, she is able to hide them under her cloak, but when spread she has a wingspan of nearly 9 feet. Maara is usually seen with bruises and/or scrapes because of failed landing attempts.
Maara usually wears; a long forest green skirt, green leggings, a yellowish brown tunic, brown vest, a gray cloak, leather belt, gray wool gloves, and rabbit skin boots on cold or rainy days, bear foot on warmer ones. Yellow beads and blue feathers are attached to the strings of her cloak and boots. She also wears a woven fiber band on her right wrist and a silver amulet, which she hides under her tunic.
Possessions:
Maara carries around a leather pouch attached to her belt beside her hunting knife. Inside is; several long (about 4 inches), thin needles made out of bone (hidden in her pouch) that are usually coated in a weak sedative or mild poisons (neither are very powerful and are only strong enough to make a person numb or somewhat ill for an hour or two), a small knife (which she uses to make her bone needles, about 2 ½ inches long), and a coin purse which she carries her life savings in (2-1/2 bishan, 4-1 bishan, and 1-5 bishan, a total of 10 bishan.).
She also carries a cloth and leather bag that has very thing she owns inside. It contains; a bed roll, a small tin cooking pot, a wooden cup, a tin spoon, a wooden bowl, a flute, 5 journals on healing that her mother wrote, a stone mortar and pestle, a small wooden box that has a lock of her mothers hair and a copper ring with her mothers family insignia on it, a map of Thar Shaddin, a compass, a pair a thick leather gloves, a small quarts crystal, and a small cloth bag containing several dried and powdered plants.
Powers or Strengths:
Because of her Demon blood Maara has the ability to fly short distances because of her wings, but she still needs a lot of work on her landings, and can summon flames. Unfortunately she has to concentrate extremely hard or be under a large amount of stress in order for them to appear, but even then they are barely big enough to light a small campfire or make minor burns. She is also faster and stronger then an average human, and can sense changes in the weather about an hour before starts.
Her mother was a Healer who worked at The Justice Hall before she got pregnant with Maara. She then started teaching her knowledge of herbs and healing abilities to her daughter up until the time of her death. Maara is only able to heal minor cuts, mild burns, and minor fractures at the moment and is still trying to decipher and learn from her dead mothers journals. She also taught Maara how to brew some medical potions; mostly weak sedatives, mild poisons, antidotes, and one that helps interior wounds heal faster. Maara also inherited the ability to see briefly into the future from her mother, however she has no control when she will have a vision or what, who, or when she might see.
Weaknesses:
Because of her fire abilities Maara grows weaker when it rains or snows and she cannot fly during high winds. After a vision she becomes very tired and drained and usually tries to find a safe place so she can rest undisturbed for a few days. Maara is very sensitive of her small stature and dislikes being called short or a child. She has been known to lash out verbally and physically when pestered too much about it. Because of the treatment others had shown her in her youth she trusts few people and tries to avoid contact with others, though when she does have to socialize she is always polite and well mannered. Maara also made a promise to her mother before she died to find her father and to finish her training as a healer, she will do almost anything to accomplish this.
Maara also has a large appetite despite her small size and usually isn’t full until she has at least two or three servings, but she tends to eat less when she is around others because she doesn’t want to appear glutinous or to take away food when there might be others that are still hungry. She has a great weakness for fish recipes.
History:
Maara’s history starts with her mother, Adriana Maria Loki. Adriana and her family had been working at The Justice Hall for generations as battle mages, although she was the first to focus mainly on the healing art instead of her ESP abilities like the rest of her family. She excelled in healing and brewing and was well known for a while for her knowledge and abilities, as well as her beauty. Indeed, Adriana was the picture of beauty with her deep green eyes, her smooth red hair the fell to the middle of her back in one neat braid, and her well developed carved body. She was so lovely and talented that she caught the eye of many suitors, but a rich political man in particular.
This man wished to have the lovely and talented Adriana as a trophy wife to help him gain farther influence in Thar Shaddin and would stop at nothing to have her. And so he focused his efforts in wooing her while bullying and bribing the rest of her suitors away. Only half of his plans worked however; Adriana’s suitors may have left, but she ignored and refused the rich man’s advances. Confused and annoyed after nearly nine months of work and no prize, he finally cornered her and demanded to know why she would not accept him.
Adriana simply looked at him coldly for a moment before she answered him in a polite but annoyed tone “On my sixteenth birthday I had I vision about the man I would bare children for. I saw his face, I heard his name, and I saw the child I would bare for him. And you, good sir, are not he. Good day to you.” And that was the last thing she said to him before leaving the rich man to his bitter anger and wounded ego at the flat out rejection he just received from the usually kind women. He withdrew all his plans of wooing her and started to formulate a new plan to dishonour her. For if he could not have her nobody would, not even the one she was fated to be with. Not being the type to get his own hands dirty, he bribed a battle mage to summon a demon to do it for him.
The demon’s orders were simple “Deflower her by any force necessary and leave before the sunrises.” Demon then set out his plans to take Adriana quickly and then leaving. What he did not plan was her reaction on seeing him. When she looked at his grey skin, his wide red eyes, his wild brown mane, his thin but powerful body, and the large bat like wings sprouting from his shoulder blades; he had expected her to scream or to stand frozen in shock. However it was he who froze in shock when Adriana not only seemed to be expecting him, but also quite literally welcomed him with open arms. He soon got over it and proceeded to carry out his orders; although he did it slower and gentler then he had planed, as force was no longer necessary.
Before he departed he asked her “Women, how did you know I was coming to take you? Why did you not run away? Why did you not try to stop me?” Adriana simply smiled and told him of her vision and that she did not stop his because of the result of the coupling. “Result?” she smiled again and simply answered “I just hope you wanted a daughter.” Surprised at this answer he turned to leave, but before he went, the demon told her to do one thing “Summon me one day women, so that I may see her and teach her how to use her demon blood.” Adriana promised him and he left.
Though she was happy to have her child, Adriana feared her family’s reaction to the news. Not wanting it shame her parents or endanger her daughter, she packed up her things and ran to a small village that was one month’s ride out side of Marn. There she stayed with the village’s midwife until after Maara turned two.
The villager’s reaction to the demon child was to either ignore her or, in one case, even beat her. Adriana was horrified after the incident and moved Maara and herself north about 10 miles south east of Zaekonspiere. There she found a small abandon shack hidden in the woods and raised Maara. Adriana then started to teach Maara how to read and write, how to identify healing plants, how to brew potions, how to focus her energy for healing magic with crystals, how to sense when a vision is coming and what to do after, how to use needles made from bone as weapons, the way to throw them, where to aim, and how much poison or sedative to coat them in. During her time there, Maara also learned how to summon flames, and how to fly there, but unfortunately, not how to land.
About 3 months after her 15th birthday, Maara had a vision about her mother dieing. She was so drained because of it; she did not have time to warn Adriana of what she had seen before passing out. Adriana left to gather healing plants for when she woke up but then come crossed an injured troll near her home. When she went to help the beast she startled it and it lashed out at her. That attack crushed most of her ribs and damaged many of her organs and she barely had enough strength the crawl back home before passing out. Maara found her an hour later after she woke up and dragged her mother inside. Maara had tried to heal Adriana, but because she lacked the ability to heal and because of how drained she was after her vision, she didn’t succeed.
Before Adriana died, she spoke with Maara and told her everything. Adriana told her about her family, Marn, Maara’s father and the promise she made to him. “Maara, my beauty, when I die you must find a way to finish your training and then fulfil that promise I made to your father, for I can no longer be able to do so myself. You may need to go to Marn to find someone who will train you. So you must take my ring and show it to my relatives, they may be able to help you. And in order to find your father you will need to know his name. It’s Cama Zotz the Bat Demon. Remember that, Maara, Cama Zotz.” Maara promised to do as she was asked and the next day her mother died.
Maara stayed at her home for nearly a year after she buried her mother to study her mother’s journals and to train herself before she started off towards Marn and fulfil her promise to her mother.
