Morrigan

Name: Morrigan, sometimes shortened to Morgan
Age: 68
Race: Human Shapeshifter
Sex: Female
Height: 5'5"
Weight: 117 lbs

Physical Description:
Being an aged woman Morrigan does not have many attractive features.
Her face is wrinkled and features two old, parallel scars on her right cheek, leftovers from an adventurous life. Her dark green eyes seem to be the most active parts of her shriveled body as they can't seem to find any rest in their quest to carefully monitor anything even remotely suspicious. Her messy white hair which barely reaches her shoulders finishes the picture of an elderly woman.

Morrigans physical strengths have declined greatly over the years, though she still walks admirable distances almost daily. Stairs tend to be difficult because of her back pain, but other then that Morrigan is rather healthy for a woman her age living on the streets.

Possessions:
To support her weakening ankles and spare her poor back Morrigan has a walking stick, necessarily the two of them have become inseparable over the last few years.
Attached to a belt just above her hip she has a lot of purses, bags and small ropes she uses to carry herbs, coins, food, whistles and other stuff which might turn out to be useful one day or another.
She also always carries two pair of clothes, one old and worn out fitting her age and living standards and a more flexible and darker set of clothing which she usually wears underneath.

Other then the items just mentioned she possesses nothing else. She has been homeless for the last couple of years.

Powers or Strengths:
Except for some endurance trained by long walks, Morrigan pretty much lacks any form of physical strength or talent.

While time may have taken its toll on her body, her mind has only sharpened over the years. Remarkable quick and intelligent she can compete with those young of age, while her wisdom easily surpasses most of those who think themselves wise. Morrigan does not care much about outer display though and you would have to either have her interest or spend some time with her before she will openly talk about things which matter to her.

Over the years Morrigan has become quite an expert regarding gathering and preparing herbs, leaves and plants. However most of her knowledge is self-taught so she lacks the more precise details gathered by others over the ages, but all in all she still knows quite a lot. One of her sources of income is to gather tasteful herbs and leaves and then prepare and sell them so people can use them to make tea.

Her biggest and equally secretive power is her shape shifting powers. While common shape shifters are known to change into animals or beasts of myth, Morrigan can do none of those. She can change into a young human female; quick, strong and agile like she used to be herself a long time ago.
- Shapeshifted Form -
Name: Melpomene
Height: 6'0"
Weight: 132 lbs
Physical Description and Build:
In her shape shifted form Morrigan is a tall and rather muscular young woman, appearing to be about 24 years old. She still has her dark green eyes which are probable the only resemblance you could notice. Her long, black hair almost touches her somewhat flat breasts. She would look rather thin if not for her firm shoulders and strong arms.
She doesn't sport a lot of female curves most men are attracted to but she has a lovely smile and nice eyes. Ironic enough, quite a few men tend to most like her 68 years old eyes.

Being agile and quick of feet she is quite an acrobat, cutting corners and purses alike. While she would probably loose an arm wrestling competition with a male she has quite some strength in her arms end legs.
Weaknesses:
In her elder form she has a weak body and is practically unable to defend herself against most forms of physical violence. Especially in these dark days this is quite a problem, though she has been lucky so far.

While she has a true power with her ability to shape shift, it comes with a price. Every time she has been in her alternate form for a long period of time (hours to days) and turns back into her old self again she is heavily fatigued and needs a lot of food and rest. Because of her age she is not able to shape shift a lot anymore which means she has to spend more and more time in her deteriorating body. Feeling and – more importantly – being young again has turned out to be quite addictive however and Morrigan shifts more then she should, burdening her weak original body even more.

Though ‘normal’ shape shifters can rapidly regenerate their bodies and as such do not have anything to fear about minor or even major injuries, Morrigan has more difficulty with handling injuries. While she can still regenerate wounds it also greatly weakens her, sometimes making it more profitable to let her body repair the damage on its own. She can not regenerate which was not there to begin with so she can not restore her deteriorating organs to become as strong and healthy as the used to be. In contrary, the amount of energy it costs every time she re-shapes her body probably amplifies the effect of time.

Probably because of her dualistic nature Morrigan lightly suffers from some sort of dualistic personality. Especially when she is tired (like after a transformation) she has episodes of depersonalization and dual awareness. Normally she is just her snobbish and grumpy self but sometimes an expressive, passionate and violent ‘nature’ or personality demands a place in her heart as well. These episodes can range from a disorientated feeling to a state in which she doesn’t know in which body she is and what her true name is.

History:
As a young girl she never felt much connection with other children or even her parents. Being an introvert and somewhat shy child she never had a lot of friends, more like other children who would 'tolerate' her to play with them. Her parents and her two brothers were great people, but instead of empathy caused by similarities she only felt a growing distance between them because of their differences.
Alienated by others she ventured into her own mind instead, searching for answers or maybe searching for the correct questions she should be asking. Not long after her body began to show signs of maturity she shape shifted for the very first time. Unaware of what had happened but feeling a strange yet comfortable sensation she was both scared to death and stunned of awe when she did not recognize the girl reflected by a pool of water. She had black hair, her facial structure was different, her arms were longer but those eyes were the same as her own.

Realizing that she was in fact truly different and not just crazy like she sometimes feared, Morrigan spend even less time with others to fully focus on herself and her newly discovered ability. After years and years of trial-and-error training she was able to quickly and perfectly change her body into a completely new form (in which she named herself Melpomene), even her mother did not recognize her when she was like that.
She wanted to know more about her ability but all she found in the local library was a book containing some vague sketches about outsider people who could change into werewolves or other creatures but nothing about changing into another human being. Not satisfied but instead filled with a hunger for knowledge she left her family and started to wander around the world in search for the right questions and answers.

While she learned a lot about other people she could not find anyone who knew more then mere directions in which to search concerning her talent. Twice she found love but the first did not respond to her affection and the second had no problem to sleep with both Morrigan and her alternative body Melpomene, as well as a couple of other woman. What she did learn was that others were not to be trusted and the only rule is: “deceive or be deceived”.

Now she knew that her shape shifting power was as much as a blessing as it was a curse. It appeared that even among shape shifters she was an anomaly, an accidentally created error of twisted magic which was never mend to be. Not long after she realized this she abandoned society and lived in the woods were she learned about tasteful herbs, helpful leaves and toxic plants. For almost two decades she avoided social contact as much as possible and was only seen in a nearby city or village to buy necessities.
She lived like that with relative peace with herself until a forest fire destroyed her beloved cottage and with it almost everything she possessed. Homeless yet again she started to wander again until she got stuck in Thar Shaddin, again searching for questions and answers though she has lost any hope of finding them.

Please proof-read your post for sentence structure - the character profile is very difficult to understand as is. There are lots of linguistic and grammatical mistakes which will make this profile impossible to accept at present. I would prefer for you to find them yourself rather than me having to go through it all word for word and point everything out.

From what I can understand, most of her powers/weaknesses are fine, although since the profile is unclear I would prefer to delay judgement until after the language has been corrected.

As for your question in the shoutbox, yes, shifters can have multiple forms. Most do, although the forms are related (eg: werewolves have human, wolf, and hybrid forms).

Oh it's not that bad. The powers are acceptable, but please do go over it to clean it up a bit.

Also, hello to the netherlands. Beautiful country.

Note to myself: do not post anything you wrote when you were dead-tired...

But seriously, you're right. I have read it all over again and changed everything which didn't appear to be right. While I do not have a lot of trouble with finding the right words I tend to mess up the structure of sentences.
Anyhow, I've re-done everything except the history part which I spend some extra time on if possible. I have some uncertainties about shape shifting and Thar Shaddin in general which I first want to figure out.
(If that's allright with you guys, that is?)

The only established rules on shifters are those given in the races section of the setting page: http://www.tharshaddin.com/wiki/races

However, those rules are intended to apply to animal shifters, which your character is not. Her ability, from where I'm standing, sounds different. Exceptions can be made, although your character would have to be balanaced accordingly and would be considered an anomaly. ie unique and created by some extenuating circumstances. Spat out randomly by some magical mishap or whatnot.

I have cleaned up the whole thing and gave the history a major overhaul. I absolutely do not want to overpower my character and since human->human shifting is rather rare I have also increased her weaknesses. I am anxious to start roleplaying with this character, but please point out any errors or lack of balance when you see them :-).

I don't think she's overpowered at all. Approved.
