Hello and welcome.
The thing I found most helpful when I was starting out was to read the profiles of some of the other characters. It doesn't really matter
which characters... just finding out who is in the world tells you at least as much about what's going on as any specific thread, it seems to me.
Aside from that, a couple of the storylines have plot summaries up, so it might be another good place to start, just to get a basic overview of how a plotline might run. Obviously you won't get the same detail and nuances as if you read all the posts in a storyline from start to finish, but it should give you some idea what sorts of things are happening, especially when things are complicated.
http://www.tharshaddin.com/rp/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1139 (This is a nice summary Julen did of the Lightsword Saga-- which my character is involved in. Not trying to toot our own horn or anything, just it's a pretty complex story and it can be helpful to have an overview.)
http://www.tharshaddin.com/rp/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1146 (Another summary by Drake. There hasn't been anything posted in this storyline for awhile, and it seems to be either done or on hiatus.)
The other thing I would suggest is reading some of the currently active threads. Not because they're somehow better than the older ones obviously, but just to give you an idea what's going on in the world
right now.
That's about all the advice I have. Once again, welcome to the board.

As the first moderator to reply to this post, I feel it is my duty to inform you of two things.
1) Lylessa Uluki is banned.
2) Please note that I'll ban anyone on a whim. Thus, please ignore said bannings. Lylessa does. She's been banned upwards of 95 times, and she's still here.
On a serious note, probably the most informative posts regarding the world itself, and various structures and areas of import, would be those posted
here. One very important thing that a lot of newcomers seem to miss is the
Rules and
Settings links at the top each web page. It sounds like you've gotten through that, but here's a reminder to pay particular attention to the
Character Creation portion of the Rules.
Lyl's suggestion to read current character profiles in the
Active Characters thread. You don't have to read them all... for now.
Welcome to the boards, and I'm sorry for your loss. Hopefully you will be able to remember most of it.

Lylessa Uluki is banned.
Blah blah blah. Empty threats.
I'm like a cockroach, I'm impossible to get rid of. (Not that you'd want to. I'm adorable.

)
We now return to our regularly scheduled thread...
Um... welcome to the board. Again.

Hi and welcome.
There is a save drafts option on these forums, though it's new and I have yet to test or use it. The save button is beside preview and submit when you're posting. I can't guarantee its effectiveness but I'll be happy to reimburse you any lost posts by typing long winded apologies.
The setting and rules pages are where to start, but they are lacking in certain areas and have had some long overdue editing.
I can only really suggest posts I know I've made that help describe areas of the city that haven't been properly expounded upon in the settings page. If you want to know more about the history and government, read
Moyldar's profile. The whole
Moral Equation thread introduces some significant figures in terms of Marnian politics.
Since I only closely follow threads I'm involved in, I can't really say what takes place with others. Ask Railtus though, he writes lots.

Well hello hello! It seems I'm a tad late to the party, but that's ok for me, I'm still the one that most matters. For I am Jess. Just remember that
Welcome to our most red home. Everyone else pretty much took care of suggestions, but if you need any help we'll be very happy to come rushing to your aid!

Well hi there, and welcome to this happy, albeit sick and strange at times, family.
But about my little storyline, it is on hiatus at the moment. Speaking of which, has anyone seen Cody?

I have the player on my MSN list, and she hasn't been online since around the time you took a break in your story. She used to be on all the time, then suddenly just stopped. I know she was really busy... I hope she's doing OK.

Yeah, I've talked to Beth like once since then for a little while and she was in the middle of arranging a big move or something. Ah well, might just have to start the story back up on my own and kick her in the shins when she reappears.
Now, I'm done hijacking this poor souls hello thread.

Hello, as the final moderator I would like to greet and welcome you into our merry den of horrors.
Yes, the save function works. I have tried it. Once you save, look into your control panel and then Manage Drafts. Also, when posting a character application, you don't need to finish it all at once. If it is work-in-progress, we can comment on the content thusfar while you complete the rest (of course, it will only be approved once finished, but saves you from wasting time trying to have everything ready all at once).
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. I will help however I can.

Merry den of horrors. Love it.
Very accurate where I'm concerned, especially with Zebren. Welcome to Thar. Protect yourself.

Indeed. If you hear something go bump in the night, generally it is trying to eat you or outright kill you.
Often concurrently.

That depends on what thread you're in. In our storyline, strange noises at night... most likely have a more romantic/amorous explanation. No killing involved.
(And yes, I fully acknowledge that my character and her husband are major contributors to this phenomenon.

)

In my threads, if you hear something go bump in the night, you're probably already dead...
