Player Name: Sarah

Character Name: Civet Anove (kih-VEHT ah-NOVE-uh), goes by Civet

Gender: Female

Age: 23

Race: Elf

Height: 5’8”

Weight: 103 lbs

Physical Description: She doesn’t appear to have a very solid build. While yes, she can draw a meter long recurve bow, and she runs some, she has more fat and skin than muscle. Her straight, light blond (almost white) hair is cropped at her chin and frames her round-ish face nicely. Her eyes are a beautiful, striking azure blue, and the most noticeable part of her pale face.

Posessions: She has a recurve bow (about a meter tall) and a quiver that she takes anywhere where weapons are allowed to carry. She also has a leather bag which she uses to carry extra food, a light, grey cloak, and a small number of Bishani. This is all she has.

Powers or Strengths: She is reasonably skilled with the bow, however drawing anything tighter than hers would be very difficult for her; she doesn’t have a lot of muscle. She can run extremely quickly for short bursts but she tires quickly. Her big thing is a magic thing. She has the ability to hear the thoughts of people she can see. Not “mind reading” exactly, but hearing what they’re thinking at the moment. She can also send thoughts to those she can see. (So, if she were blindfolded, or if someone were hiding out of view, she couldn’t communicate telepathically with them.) She can also suggest things to weaker minds. (She can’t actually control someone’s mind, but she can tell them to do something. This something will make perfect sense to do in the mind of the receiver. They just can’t think of a reason not to do it.) Note that, again, this only works on those she can see, and it only works on weaker minds.

Weaknesses: She doesn’t have a lot of endurance, as I said before. She also has the limitation on her mind power (again, see above). She thinks that anyone who can’t communicate telepathically is below her, and she treats them as such. This makes it hard for her to get friends. Any friends of hers have to be willing to put up with her arrogance. She doesn’t really care what happens to people who she considers to be below her, as long as she benefits (though she would never go so far as killing someone without very good reason). When she holds a grudge, she never forgets. She is also very poor, and has a hard time getting money. She essentially has to bewitch someone into giving her their money, or put them into a stupor and take it herself.

History: Her mother and father also possessed her mind abilities. However, the guards discovered them using it a lot and kicked them out of Marn. They ran to the Shim Woods, where Civet was born. Civet grew up thinking that everyone had her mind powers. Her parents had it, and kept her isolated. They did everything to keep her away from Marn. Her parents hunted small game and stole food from Shim to feed everyone. However, when Civet was 16, she discovered that there was a huge city they could live in and explore. She told her parents, but they said that they should always stay away from that place. Civet, furious that her parents knew about Marn and didn’t tell her, took her bow and her mother’s cloak and bag and ran away from her parents in the dead of night.

When she arrived in Marn, it seemed like paradise. There were so many people, and all their thoughts washed over her. All the differences between here and the forest seemed to amazing, it would take a lifetime to take in. Thirsty from her journey, she decided to ask someone where she could go to get a drink. She went up to an official looking person (one of the guards) and asked him telepathically.

The guard freaked out assuming this little brat was trying to magic him in one way or another and told her to get out of his sight or he’d kill her. Getting the message, Civet went off on her own, pondering why he had threatened to kill her. Every now and then she would ask a nice-looking person if they could tell her where she could go to get a drink (telepathically – that was the norm with her parents), but they would put a scared look on their faces, and hurry the other way. She discovered what everyone already knew: Magic was illegal.

She quit talking telepathically, although she could never block out everyone’s thoughts. Eventually, she realized that she would have to have money. She dug a few Bishani out of her mother’s purse, but realized she would need more. She had no skill in any usual professions, so she found a simpler way to get Bishani.

She picked her victims carefully: People with vague expressions who looked like they had more than enough Bishani to last a while. She would then call out with her mind something along the lines of: “Hello. I am poor, and in need of currency. Will you help me?” The hopefully weaker-minded person would for some reason not be able to figure out why not. They would simply go up to her and give her however many Bishani he thought he could spare.

In this way she has lived for almost six years. She recently decided she needed some skill with some sort of weapon. Daggers seemed too short range, and she didn’t think she could even pick up a sword, so she found herself a bow (guess how she “found” it), bought some arrows, and carries the bow with her wherever she goes. If she has some spare time, she goes and practices shooting.
