Name: Asiona (az-ee-oh-na) Peterson
Age: 16
Race & Gender: Human Female
Height: 5'5"
Weight: 115 lbs
Appearance: Asiona has curly, golden-blonde hair down to her chin and green eyes flecked with gold. Her skin is tanned slightly and she has a few freckles by her nose. She wears simple dresses, no frills or lace, unless she's going to church. Then she has some lace on her collar and sleeves.
Occupation(s): Student at school, rogue mage

Combat

Spells memorized:
Swift: (Buff) muscle efficiency increases to 50%; adverse results: target becomes exhausted
Fire Skin: an Illusion spell; caster's body superficially radiates heat and feels scalding hot to the touch but doesn't actually burn
Reveal Nightmare: an Illusion spell; target of spell appears to be a monster
Haze of Dust: Element spell; a cloud of dust (dirt and/or sand) rises into the air to get in eyes and limit visibility
Charged-Wire Touch: an Element spell; the spellcaster's touch electrocutes, causing slight burns and muscle stiffness; immediate immobility until touch is withdrawn
Furnace: an Element spell; intense heat focused acutely, used to melt metal or incinerate wood, etc
Hide: an Illusion spell; target is undetectable with sight and smell; can still be heard
Desensitize: an Illusion spell; target cannot see, hear or feel

Spells in books:
Summoning: a Spirit spell; summons an entity from either an earthly or astral plane; targeting can be misdirected or spell can miss; a creature from the astral plane that is not channeled through all the way requires a bind spell to keep the corporeal form and partial spirit on Pal Tahrenor
Sleep: a Spirit spell; makes the target pass out into a deep-sleep
Bind: a Spirit spell; the spirit of the caster and the spirit of the target combines and results in sharing some thoughts and emotions; bind keeps an incompletely summoned, astral plane creature from diffusing back into the astral plane

Flaws: She has to cast unmemorized spells from the book. The spell may also fail, from either immunity on the part of the target or through her own mistake.

Belongings: A wand Asiona calls the "face-burn stick" or "pepper stick". It acts much like pepper spray, making the eyes and throat burn. Her mentor gave it to her. She also lives in a medium-sized house in the Residential District.

Characteristics

Personality: Asiona has a rebellious and stubborn nature. When she wants something she works ambitiously for it, and isn't one to adhere to rules. Figuring something out on her own is one of her favorite things to do, especially if involves decoding a spell out of a spellbook. She prefers to be silent most if not all of the time until the subject of magic or something else that excites her comes up. Then she becomes an unbearable chatterbox or pesters her companion with questions.

Her favorite subjects are spells, magical things and ways to use magic, mechanical things such as the gnomes make, and creatures and races unfamiliar to Thar Shaddin.

Aspirations: Learning new spells, to make magic legal in Thar Shaddin, and to be a great and renowned mage.

History: Asiona's father, Gavken, is a fairly wealthy merchant and supports his family well. They live in a medium-sized house fitting four people. Asiona's mother, Lissi, is a housewife and cares for Asiona and her older brother, Devlin. Asiona attends the school and her parents plan for her to become some sort of official. Asiona, on the other hand, desires nothing more than to rebel from the government and make magic legal. She got this aspiration from her mentor, whom she met one day while in the market. He was a much older man whose quiet but confident voice lured Asiona to his house time and again to discuss gnome engineering. During such conversations Mr. David let slip that he was a mage not registered with the government and was only one of a small group of such rebel mages. When Asiona greeted this with enthusiasm he began to teach her spells and loaned her spellbooks.

Only a few months later Mr. David left the cause and stopped practicing magic. He had finally caved in to his wife's wishes when she began threatening to leave him if he didn't leave the cause. This angered Asiona and she felt betrayed. She took a very ancient spellbook Mr. David had in his house and found a summoning spell in it. Imagining being able to summon whole armies to fight for magic freedom, a year after Mr. David's betrayal she went to an abandoned tower in the Historical District. There she attempted to try it out for the first time with only a small attempt at summoning a bunny. This went horribly wrong when the magic was redirected, and accidentally channeled a being from the astral plane. The being was an evil demon that fed off life and could have caused her harm. In the confusion, Lateus took advantage of her naivety and convinced her he was a good spirit and that he would be hurt if he went back. He also told her that he could help her. So then she casted the Bind spell, which kept his corporeal form here while some of his spirit was still in the astral plane. In order to keep him a secret she keeps him in the tower he was summoned in and brings him food when her parents are asleep.

Extra Important Info:
Lateus is a sub-character to Asiona.

Name: Lateus
Age: Immortal
Race & Gender: Life-sucking Demon, Male
Height: 6'1"
Weight: around 200 lbs
Appearance: Lateus' appearance comes from Asiona's thoughts about what a demon would look like mixed with what Lateus himself wanted to look like. He has an adult humanoid form with white skin and orange eyes. His amber-colored hair comes down to his shoulders and remains unbrushed. His ears are pointed in an almost elfish fashion and his teeth are all varying degres of sharp. On his upper arms, legs, and back are black markings, like tattoos, symbols of the bind spell.

Occupation(s): Asiona’s magical ‘pet’

Belongings
: The clothes, books, or other items Asiona has given him, but everything other than the clothes he’s wearing stays in the tower.

Combat

Abilities: Immense endurance, a slow regeneration of limbs, fast reflexes, and great physical strength.
Sorcery: The way he naturally eats could be a form of sorcery, where he senses weakness and can suck away a person's living energy. The conjuring he can do is related to what Asiona's spellbooks refer to as "spirit" and "black" magic. Spirit spells he does usually relates to his own spirit/life-force for hunting purposes while black augments his ability at preying on the living.
Spirit
Invisibility: Light passes right through his corporeal form instead of bouncing off, so he becomes invisible. The light passing through can be a distorted especially in bright light, so he isn't totally unnoticeable. However, in a dark room or at night he may as well be truly gone.
Soft As Feathers: Lateus walking or touching something makes no vibration and his body feels very light. This is bad if there is a strong wind or he is hit, which would most assuredly make him fall down easily. But it serves him well in order to sneak up on victims.
Spirit Resonance: Lateus' spirit "resonates" which resonates with the other spirits in the vicinity, allowing him to locate them exactly. This reaches up to a 600-meter (2,000 feet) radius in a circle around him. The spirit resonating for someone without much magic feels it in their chest or stomach; for someone familiar with magic it often becomes more of a mental "sense". Of course this is very puzzling for the target(s), and it's also a good way for Lateus to recognize a healthy versus a sick person by a sort of "frequency".
Black
Sanguinary Wound: A wound he causes by hands or teeth encourages bleeding for a longer period of time than normal and even more blood comes out. He has to invoke this before causing the wound.
Blood Plague: Target(s) feel weak and often collapse. Rarely, a person with a weak constitution can lose consciousness. This leaves them supernaturally weak to his life-sucking ability.
Black Flow: This summons a globe of blackness that releases up to three beams and then goes out. The beams hit the target(s) and cause a hole, whether flesh or armor. Goes in up to two inches and, since it is supernatural damage, the wound doesn't heal easily and will bleed extra much like Sanguinary Wound.
Weaknesses: Weak to enchantment/mind powers. His power is filtered through Asiona so he is only as strong as she is or less. He is also prone to fluctuations in the astral plane. And, being accustomed to the astral plane, he sometimes thinks he can do something when he can't.
Strengths: Despite reduced powers he can compensate for Asiona’s weakness by his knowledge of the inner workings of magic and using it to his advantage. If she is unconscious (sleeping, knocked out) his power increases; however, using too much of his magic when she is in that state endangers her well-being. Another power of his is that he can sense life-force, in other words the varying strength of how much life someone has. If a person is sick or wounded, and especially dying in some sort of way, Lateus can sense that and eat their spirit. If he eats enough of it he can kill them. Asiona would not appreciate that, however, and she would most likely know if he did it.

Characteristics

Personality: Lateus is a simple man, concerned only with his new physical needs. He’s always hungry and grumpy because of them. Since he fits with how a demon should be according to Asiona, he is always serious and never laughs. However, he’s very curious and mischievous and is transfixed by almost anything. He’s like a baby, first experiencing the world, and it makes Asiona treat him like one. His basic personality is still one of violence and anger, however. And he’s very manipulative.

History: In the astral plane he was part of a force that drained life energy from those in the physical world. His prey were those that were close to the astral plane, either because they have magic or they were living in areas where the veil between the different planes was weak. Being summoned into the physical world is a new thing for him, even though he existed for centuries relative to Thar Shaddin.

When he was summoned he was disoriented, but interested in staying. He convinced Asiona to bind him by saying he would die if she let go of her hold. He doesn’t want to go back because being physical is so fun, and he knows she is not capable of summoning him again. However, he has mixed feelings because he’s bound to a mere child he could kill in a heartbeat.

Extra Important Info: To explain the relationship between Asiona and Lateus: Lateus is projected through Asiona. She isn’t powerful enough to summon his whole being, and he remains partly in the astral plane because of it. This only means he wanders through the astral plane as he does in Thar Shaddin. Life force he feeds on filters throughout his being, still through Asiona. And because he moves through Asiona, Asiona is susceptible to his thoughts, feelings, or urges. The greater her power grows, the more goes through… Lateus can also sense her thoughts, feelings, or urges because his spirit travels through her and picks up on that information.

Unlike succubae/incubi, alps, and any other supernatural creature or demon who feeds off of some sort of life force, Lateus is a less picky kind of creature. He can feed off of emotions, sickness, death, hate, blood, flesh, etc., but he prefers to kill and drain raw life energy. It’s possible to take this energy when someone dies or bleeds or is in any other state of weakness. He can subsist on stealing only some of it from various sources, but he requires quite a bit of overall energy to sustain himself. Food only helps to keep stomach hunger away. What he really needs is the spirit of a person or animal. He can feel when a creature is weak in just the right way and hone in on the kill.
