I'm thinking. I'm definitely scraping the bottom of my mental barrel, but there's got to be something. I mean, we love writing about people talking. ;)

In the very short term, Rollick asked Tam and Sasha a question that should give you at least one more post. Maybe by then we'll have something brainstormed. :)

I've been thinking about what to do, and I have a few possibilities.

1.) We could do the usual and have a conversation between characters. For instance, the conversation between Uluki and Sigvard mentioned earlier in the thread-- though that would probably be quite short. Maybe something else. We have lots of NPCs.

2.) I could try to push ahead what I was going to do during Shim, or I could skip ahead. The logistics make this difficult, but it's an option.

3.) I can go on hiatus while Quinn and Aorle do their thing. However much time that might be. Rail, I appreciate your willingness to include me, but I'm at a point where I can't really advance my plot (as people really need to have left for Shim before I can move at all,) I have no conversations specifically pending, and I don't want to stick Uluki or one of my NPCs in a scene they don't contribute anything to, just for the sake of them being somewhere. I don't want to write meaningless posts just to be posting something/anything. I am available if needed, of course, and would not be gone-- just not writing posts if they aren't needed.

Regardless, I will be out of town next weekend from Friday to Sunday. Which may or may not matter by that point. I'm still trying to decide the best thing to do.

Thanks for doing some brainstorming, Lyl. Those are all good ideas. And I actually have an idea for a character conversation.

There was a conversation I wanted to have between Uluki and Rosemary. I'd planned to do it during Shim, but you're going to be pretty busy then, and there's no reason not to bump it up a little. I think it will be long enough to keep us occupied, but not so long as to hold things up.

How does that sound?

Sure, sounds good to me. :) Uluki is just puttering around the compound doing household-type stuff and will be available for Rosemary to talk to. If it works now, we may as well do it now (well, relatively speaking "now," when our current conversation finishes, which I doubt will take long.) Thanks for the idea!

Just a short post from me. I had Tam ask a question because it seemed in-character for her to do so (and also because I'm curious about the answer). But after that, unless you want to do more, we can wrap it up and move on to Rosemary.

Long post-- and possibly much more than Tam wanted to know-- but I figured since the question was asked, Rollick may as well give a substantive answer. Unless Tam has more to ask him, that wraps it up for things I need to say... especially since this is really an interruption to what Thetta was doing.

I'm ready to post for Uluki whenever. It would probably be best for Rosemary to come find her, since while Uluki is happy to talk to her, she doesn't realize they need to have a conversation.

Made a summary of the evening and following morning, ready for visitors. :)

Security at the compound is actually pretty tight. Guards stationed at the entrance (4) and walking sentries patrolling the ramparts (2 pairs with an archer in each) at any given time. An armed group approaching will cause the guard to be doubled - the sentries will send someone to tell the rest of the compound.

Before anyone enters they need to answer who they are and why they approach (information which will be promptly passed on along the compound). They will be expecting the mercenaries, but will still double the guard before they enter. Standard security.

Basically I want to establish that the compound keeps track of who comes and goes, rather than people sneaking in and out as they please. SOP is that anyone leaving the compound will have stated where they are going and how long they expect to be gone (read: when to send a search party and where to start looking).

Delphina sneaked out when the ramparts were being finished and her friends are covering for her absence. So no one knows for sure that she's gone.

We also have a gate now, a many-part fence made of 'sudis' or portable stakes lined up across the entrance. 'Opening the gate' is simply pulling a few sudis out of the ground to make a gap. This wont stop anyone forcing their way in (because pulling the stakes out is easy) but will slow them down.

Currently the 'gate' is left open because Krarug and Blargen are harvesting brickwork from across the road (read: pulling abandoned buildings apart in chunks starting with the windows). Some masonry is being kept in the wagon, some being used to make a mini-barbican at the entrance, and some filling great baskets atop the ramparts each side of the entrance (for dropping bricks on people who try to force their way in).

Okay, that post was kind of a monster.

I wasn't sure if the guards would just let the mercs in without checking with someone, so I left it open. If they do get let it, you can assume Quinn takes them to try and find Aorle.

I have posted-- it is short, but it didn't seem like anything more needed to be said.

I assumed Rosemary would be OK with going somewhere more private for the examination. If for some reason she doesn't want to, I will edit, but it seemed pretty reasonable, so I went ahead and did a little auto. If that doesn't work for you, please do let me know. :)

That's cool! If you hadn't done it in your post, I would have done it in my next one. Thanks.

Karr is not actually a name - it means 'the sworn' which refers to his knighthood. Essentially the same thing as 'Sir'.

Von Eisenburg = Of Ironfort, referring to the mines within his family estate. Medieval nobles were ofte named after their estates. If he breaks ties with his family, he will be expected to claim the name of a personal (non-family) estate. I have no idea what landless nobles call themselves.

There is a method to the madness. :P

Just a reminder, as mentioned in my above post: I'm going camping this weekend, yay!

What this means is I won't be available for daily posting. I will not have any ability to post on Saturday. On Sunday, I probably can't post till evening. Not sure about Friday, as I'm not sure what time we are leaving. I will try to get a post done Friday if I have one I need to respond to.

Hope this isn't any inconvenience!

I'm back from camping. It was lots of fun! :D

Jules, I'm wondering what you wanted to do about "Hard Truths." Before I left we talked about how the conversation was clearly winding down. I'm a bit confused, though-- did you plan to post again? Or should I just assume the scene is done and move my characters along?

I'm not meaning to rush you if you just haven't gotten a chance and/or inspiration to post, but I'm not sure if you guys are waiting on me and expecting me to post now, or if another post from Rosemary is in the works.

If you could just let me know, I'd appreciate it. :)
