Do you see the fnords?

Perhaps a thread should be created where people can list the characters that they want used (or are willing to have used if consulted first, as is the case with my two) or must not be used by others... something of the sort, anyways... just in case anyone ever gets around to writing a Thar Shaddin novel.

It would be cool to write a compilation book, wouldn't it? We do have some pretty cool stories on here. Though splitting the money could be a problem.

I call dibs on 50%. The rest can be distributed as you see fit.

Presumably one would sort out the shares of the profits beforehand... if someone found them unacceptable, then they wouldn't be included. Bah... this is bad. I'm actually considering it, and I'm already out of time.

It's not a rush but I'll get around to writing it up in the rules after I post a paragraph here so everyone can look it over.

I'll go in your character profiles in the end, not a separate thread, what kind of permissions you give others to do with your work.

I know I'm kinda beating a dead thread here, but I must agree. From what I have read every member of Thar has talent, and it would be nice to see something like a short story collection. It could be done like the novellas from the Dragonlance series, a few single writers and a few writer teams sit down and write short stories with their PCs and perhaps some others that the authors are willing to donate. Then to settle the royalties matter, the authors that actually did the writing of the stories get a predetermined amount and the rest goes to the benefit of this little world our characters thrive in. An additional volume could be put out every year/year and a half with a new group of writers. I'd read em. Only problem then would be all of the sub-par writers that would want to become involved.....on second thought, lets keep Thar our little not-so-closely-guarded secret.

hmm

I feel weird having this be my first post on these boards in two and a half years (or one and a half...I don't remember), but the thought had crossed my mind to use the setting but not any of the characters from these boards. Only, I was feeling a little shy about actually asking to do it so I was just gonna go ahead and create my own world, blah blah, etc, and so on. Well, wait a moment...I guess there are characters who are such a part of the history of the setting that it really wouldn't be the same without them or a carbon copy.

I doubt I'd ever get as far as publication, I am just preparing myself (devleoping a setting, plot, timeline of events, etc) for National Novel Writing Month, which I'm sure most of you know all about. So, supposing I did wish to use the Pal Tahrenor setting or something similar, would there be any problems with that?

Xyon is already in a book, so no stealing. Since he's not exactly integral to PT I don't suppose anyone would, but he's my baby and I protect him fiercely.

That's why I gave him a really big sword.

Anything involving Railtus/Aorle will require my direct participation - either I write it or it is a shared effort discussed between us.

Feel free to use Krevster, however.

You'd have to ask Fruggles about using the world, he's the one who pretty much created the whole thing. But I don't think he'd mind much.

And don't worry about posting in this ol' thread - every member gets a say in this, since I believe it's something that would affect the way you write.

Kamar and Mavarion are already in my book, so that's a no go. Chez may or may not be in the book, I haven't decided yet, so that will require permission.

Using the setting only for anything you want is fine IF you mention this place somewhere, somehow (I don't care where or how), and if you let me (and in turn everyone here) know.

Please be aware that the setting is still under constant construction. The god worshiped by the Marnians is being worked on, and is actually pretty much fleshed out but not in the official pages. The other changers likewise.

I'm very happy with how the setting has turned out, but I can't claim sole ownership of it.

The characters I'm most protective over I probably wouldn't ever put on the internet not to make it an issue. I don't care if someone used Cody as long as they made him true to char and as so often said gave credit where it is due.

I mean...at the very least don't people learn how to cite a refrence in basic high school? Even that would be something.

I think its really cool to find an rp enviroment where you get people to write good enough for it to even be an issue.

For me, this is good practice. Someday I'd like to write a novel with all the ideas from here, and others floating around in my head, but at the moment I'm afraid it would read rather poorly.

You can thank Lydia for much of it. Theogios, the mover of earth. Mightiest and purest of the gods!
